Exopoli
The apartment was clean, and modern, and ideal for a couple. A top floor room gives nice views. Breakfast a little expensive so buy in town or buy something to eat on the room balcony. The staff and bar staff were so helpful and friendly. We asked for a change of room for a better view - no problem. The best beach and town a 10 min easy walk away. Good drink and food options behind the beach. Plenty of restaurants in town for all tastes. Veggie ok enough but limited. Rethymnon a 20 min bus ride away for 3 euros. Will certainly think of going back.
Kalyves Beach Hotel

First of all, this hotel looks every bit as lovely as it does in the photos. Right on the beach with free sunbeds and parasols and lovely thick mattresses on them. Comfiest sunbeds we have ever had. Went for a week on 8th October in a double room with side sea view. On arrival at the hotel, you have to go down some steps which lead into the restaurant which we thought a bit strange, but anyway, the reception is just round the corner. The lovely young lady on reception greeted and welcomed us warmly. Her name was Angela too. We did all the necessary stuff, the safe key, the tourist tax etc and Angela took us over the road to the other hotel building and showed us to the lift. We had room 133 allocated to us. Big family room, huge bed, single bed settee and a fold out bed chair. TV, fridge with complimentary bottle of water and a bottle of wine too. Tea and coffee making facilities. My first thing is always to go on the balcony and see the view. I have to say i was disappointed. Yes i could see the sea, and the garden was very nice too, but there was a huge tree in front of the balcony which cut out all the light, sunshine and air. We stayed in that room for the evening and all of the next day, before i admitted to myself that it was going to spoil my holiday not having any sunshine coming in, so i went to reception and asked if i could change rooms and explained why. They were extremely helpful, they couldnt do anything that day, but the next morning they offered me a key to a different room and said if we liked it, to just move our stuff into it, which is what we did. We only moved along the corridor, but into room number 137 which was bathed in beautiful sunshine, so light and airy, although it was a smaller room and very small bathroom, but i was much happier. All the staff, the cleaners, barmen etc are always friendly and smiling and always greet you, the place is very clean and tidy and our bedding and towels were changed every single day. You are given 2 beach towels in your room and also some slippers, there is extra bedding in the wardrobe, along with a small safe, which is located on the floor in the corner - not very good for those of use with old bones! As i mentioned previously, the hotel is in two halves. One side houses the restaurant, reception, lounge areas, inside entertainment and the other side has the heated indoor swimming pool, spa, gym and kids machines, snooker tables etc. They are seperated by a narrow road which can at times get busy. There is a river to one side of the hotel which is very pretty at night with a couple of little boats all lit up, and there are the geese and ducks - who make themselves heard on many occasions. These geese are very tame and also wander around between the sun beds, especially if they hear you rustling a paper bag, they come waddling along expecting something to eat. The sea was lovely and warm which was a blessing because the 2 outdoor pools were absolutely freezing. The Beach bar - which i

Like the other reviews, the staff are what make to hotel a pleasant experience. Francesca, Tony, Natasha and Stella where amazing hosts for my stay. They were always warm and helpful through out my week with them. My favorite amenities was having a morning yoga session with Francesca on the rooftop with a sea view. Was a great way to start the day. I really hope the owner/management show appreciation to retain good staff that take pride in the job. A little can go a long way. I had a sea view room on the 1st floor which was cute. The room was clean and had Netflix Disney+ and YouTube on the TV which was really good if you want in room entertainment. Perhaps the bathroom's could do with a make over as whilst they are clean, they are quite dark and grey looking but fine in terms of functionality. I opted for the half board option and was a little bit apprehensive, as I usually am whenever I travel as I am vegan and worry about options. I did email the hotel 2 weeks before to let them know and I did see it was noted down on my paperwork when I checked in which was good. Dinner on the rooftop exceeded my expectations as there was options or alternatives I could have for my dinner so it didnt get boring having the same thing every day. However I do wish there was more option at breakfast as I ended up just having veg and potatoes which was not the most thrilling. The food at breakfast was not very hot also even when it came straight out the kitchen. It would have been nice to have the same level in variety as at dinner. For example, the fresh orange juice each morning was delightful but it would have been nice to also have fresh smoothies too. Also, having veggie sausages and pancakes at breakfast and vegan yogurt as these things do exist and should be more widely available. Hotel is widely accessible to the beach and shops which is literally stones throw away. Nice spot if you are a female solo traveler like myself who wants to have a restful vacation experience.

Kavros
This is the third time we visited Hydramis Palace (of the 6 times we visited Crete in a time span of 10 years), we've visited many hotels and also a lot of places. Practically visited the entire island north-east-south-west, we've seen pretty much all. This hotel in particular left a very good impression on us the first time we visited and then during corona was our second time that we stayed. That stay was also very good. In september 2023 we returned to Hydramis Palace by booking via phone with Maria. The price-quality ratio is very good, we've also noticed that the hotel has undergone some changes during the course of these years. There's a renovated pool bar, the entire sunbeds location is renewed and increased in size. The restaurant (buffet style) has improved bain-maries so the food stays warm for a longer period and preserves it's quality better. The gardens are still very lush and full of colors, well maintained. The brushes that were trimmed in the shape of faces are gone though, it was a nice touch but probably the work to keep them in very good state wasn't worth it. We didn't miss them to be honest, it was a nice thing to see but if you didn't know they were there to begin with, then it was a non factor. Instead there are beautiful flowers there now, etc. This time we had a room on ground floor (totally different place than what we had before) , we had a private pool which was a nice addition. The room and all it's facilities were very clean. I've been told that the rooms will be receiving a renovation somewhere soon (if not already). Honestly the rooms were still good but I understand the move to make it more modern and update the style to be more in line with the new pool bar and main bar. Overall they are improving the hotel to be a tier higher that it used to be so far. Which is good, progress is always good but I have to mention that it might come at an increased price in the future. Not sure though, this is something that we'll have to discover in the future and update in a future review. There were still plenty of events and there was animation even in september (almost all the way till closing time if I recall correctly). This hotel also has a very good location in terms of reachability of certain places on the east and south side of Crete. Georgioupoli is a beautiful small town, this hotel is located in Kavros though. A very small touristic hub, it used to be very very small, now there's more shops and other stuff organized near and in Kavros. Kavros is an ideal place to stay and use as your 'main base' to start from with the car. You can go towards Rethymno and from there on scout the entire south side or stay near Rethymno. You can opt to go to Chania and enjoy Chania or drive a little bit further to Falassarna beach or to the port in Kissamos to take the 'cruise' to Gramvousa island and Balos beach. This is definitely a must if you're in the neighbourhood. Falassarna also. You can drive towards Chania and go further
