Staff were excellent. Room was good with a decent bed so we slept well. Room and bathroom were very clean and there was little noise, however the public areas need attention and the outside and the signage condition is actually quite off putting. Checkout time is great and the room cleaners helpful and understanding. We took the meal deal offer. In the evening both our first course's were fine as were the drinks but the mains were not. We both had burgers and the big plates with nothing but small burgers and a few chips looked odd. Maybe some salad? Also burgers themselves although tasting fine looked grey and the cheese used had also turned a sort of translucent grey. Dessert was OK. Service was excellent. Unfortunately at breakfast I became ill and that may explain why it was all somewhat tasteless. A special mention for the scrambled egg though, because it was truly awful and we both assumed it was made from powder rather than real eggs. If this is the case it needs to be changed, if not get a better chef. I left early but my wife finished hers. The service was once again excellent and the fact that a Gluten free menu was available for my wife was once again a very good point. In conclusion: I took one star off because of the food quality in the attached Beefeater it should have been more but that would not have been fair because the hotel apart from needing a minor uplift, was excellent and they have to be rated together. In both cases the staff were excellent Hotel: Great room for the price let down by poor communal areas in need of an uplift. Great staff, truly wonderful adopted pussycat. Would definitely use again. Beefeater; Great service, very good price using meal deal, decent decor but the food was at best mediocre and unfortunately mostly quite poor.
