Hometown Inn Athens

With Athens' hotels all booked or grossly overpriced, I was relieved to find this hotel option just outside of town. A 2-night stay revealed a mix of good and bad. Pros: My well sized room was adequately clean, bug free, and had a mix of nice vs basic room decor. It included a fridge, microwave, office desk, sitting chair, convenient luggage space, good bed & bedding, iron, board, and hair dryer. The ac worked well and upon request I was provide a good portable heater for the chilly nights. Cons: The highway noise was obtrusively loud without the ac/fan unit on, the room carpet dirty and stained, the outside walkway of unfinished boards ugly, and the internet unworkable in my 2nd floor room. Overall, the place isn't up to par with the Quality Inn in downtown Athens but it is cheaper. In my view, it should be a 3 star hotel, but the poor wifi knocks it down a point. It's an unnecessary, significant, fixable problem of too few routers not providing a signal to all of the rooms.

Clean room very nice for the price

I stayed here one orher time about 6 months ago and had a horrible experience that made me leave eary at 4:00 AM. It is my fault for giving them another chance, but i was in a hurry, and honestly it is cheap. Horrible decision. I arrived in town late and when i went to check in they made me wait for a bit before telling me i couldnt stay because "I did something i shouldnt have last time." Ok. First, i left early and disnt return yhe key card to the office because, of course, there is no noght person at the desk. Thar is the height of my crimes. I was cordial and more than a little confused. I asked if he could twll me what i did ao thar i didnt do it again by accident. He looked confuaed and said "I have your name. I dont know what you did." Ok. Under normal circumstances i wouldve just turned and left and left them to their run down excuse for a motel with the strange people milling about outside, but by this point it was after midnight and i just wanted to gi to bed. He was no more help simply shaking his head and saying "I dont know." Finally he saw i was starting to lose my temper. He said "Just call ******* and I'll refund your money. Ok considering i booked through **********... I saw i most likely would not be getting a refund but there was no use arguing. As of now ********** cannot contact them and are trying to figure out what to do since he took the money and wont answer the phone. Nice. So it's juat my experience, but I'd advise to stay well clear of here.

It was very clean, clean sheets and clean towels. Hot water and good pressure in the shower. Only issue that we had was the as hell beds . Like you slept on ply wood covered in blanket and quilt. Would stay again, only with xtra blankets. Friendly people at front counter. Dont buy chocolate out their vending waste of money.

Great value for a stay convenient to our road trip. Had everything we needed and the owners were very friendly.

Good value! Room was clean. Nice mini-fridge. Near the Interstate.

Love the style, outside rooms. Park in front of your room. Easy access. Used to stay while hunting. Perfect for that.

Unfortunately this property is extremely dirty. Bugs, mold. The works. There is not cleaning staff. I booked this hotel for family and they had to leave early because of the stink bugs in their bed and mold in the kitchenette area. I am still waiting for my refund.
