Pavilion Hotel

My husband and I booked Pavillion Hotel 3 months ahead of a busy August weekend so we'd be sure to get a room. We've stayed there several times before and absolutely love it!!! Best location, completely quiet rooms even with Luau Larry's next door, thanks to double pane glass, wonderful, clean Tommy Bahama motif, and great service. So lovely to sit in the courtyard and enjoy free afternoon wine and cheese happy hours included in the price, as well as free coffee and muffins in the morning! Great service and our checkin with Juan, and check out with Jacob was quick and professional. They were both so helpful and nice too! Its an expensive property in the high season of summer and October Jazz Festivals, but it's SO WONDERFUL, that we are happy to pay for it. Make sure to allow time to lounge under the palms and read or nap, as well as sit by the firepits at Happy Hour to meet or share with new friends. Such an upscale clientele and the sweet young families were actually a joy to see there. Also, so glad we didn't have to hike up a hill to get to our hotel after a long day of kayaking or steak dinner at Steve's Steak House!
Hotel Mac Rae
4.1/5102 Reviews
We had a fantastic stay at Hotel Mac Rae! The room was spotlessly clean with no unpleasant odors, which made for a very comfortable stay. The room was big enough for our needs, as we spent most of the time outside. The location can not be better. Before each snorkeling adventure, we were delighted to find fresh, big, fluffy beach towels waiting for us, adding a touch of luxury to our daily activities. The included breakfast was a treat, offering a wide variety of fresh pastries, accompanied by good coffee and refreshing orange juice. We also appreciated the convenience of refilling our water bottles with fresh, cold water throughout our stay. Overall, Hotel Mac Rae provided a wonderful experience, and we can't wait to return!
Catalina Island Inn

The hotel has been renovated fairly recently but is already starting to show some wear and tear. We have stayed a couple of times in different rooms but unfortunately don’t think we will be back. We stayed in a bunk room previously and had an issue with the smaller than functional linen closet (my 12 yr old 5’0 / 87lb daughter couldn’t even shower without bumping walls and having to wash legs outside of the shower stall - you literally can not bend or lift legs to wash below the waist). I thought maybe it was a result of the room being designed as an afterthought and selected a standard double for our most recent stay. Sadly I was wrong and the shower was just as tiny. The whole room was tiny, very cramped, nowhere to put your personal items or bags, nowhere to sit, one bedside drawer and was really lacking in cleanliness. There were literally 2 outlets in the room. One in the bedside lamp and one in the bathroom- however - with a small pedestal sink and zero countertop there is nowhere to use any hair tools and be able to set them down or set down any products, make up, toothbrushes etc. Our sink had a slow leak. I had brought a small birthday banner and some small decorations to put up for my daughter’s birthday and there was really literally nowhere to put it. We stayed for 5 days - perhaps 1 or 2 nights max for a single or couple would be ok but for a family of 3 for an extended time was awful. We were stepping over our suitcases, had to dig through our bags each time we needed anything and couldn’t keep our clean clothes and towels separate from our ‘dirty/wet’ items without sleeping with them in/on the bed or putting them back in our suitcase. Our first day we noticed the shower wash, shampoo and conditioner dispensers were empty and were told they “ran out” so we had to go shopping for the week. Most of the staff are friendly. The door which is supposed to be locked after hours is not so even my daughter commented “what if we weren’t staying here - we could be any random walking up to the rooms”. In hindsight, I wish I would’ve taken pictures. Again, we have given this hotel a couple of chances and it’s ok but for the price (over $1300 including a special extended stay “deal” for 4 nights) albeit a pretty good location, but we likely will not be back.

Aurora Hotel

I can’t say enough nice things about the Aurora Hotel! Before booking, I called several times with questions about the island/hotel, and Melissa and Casey were so sweet and helpful. When checking-in, Fabian was hilariously friendly. Because Catalina is such a tiny island, most hotel rooms and bathrooms are very small. Knowing this, we rented the Aurora Celebrity Suite, which is very spacious (incl. a private entrance, a fireplace, sunporch with patio furniture, huge bathroom with 6-head shower, separate living room and sitting area). Plus cute brown bathrobes, brown wash cloths, makeup wipes, and other necessary toiletries. Melissa knew it was our wedding anniversary and that we didn’t drink alcohol, so there was a bottle of sparkling cider and some chocolates in our room with a handwritten note. The free breakfast had a fair amount of options. The roof top deck offered a lovely view of the ocean and the city. Melissa was nice enough to take some bikini pics of me on the roof. The deck was under construction which was loud, so the hotel manager, Parker, gave us a really good deal on our stay! And Casey helped us get back to the dock in time to catch our ferry home. I highly recommend the Aurora Hotel!
Glenmore Plaza Hotel

This not a five star hotel but the one star ratings are far from accurate. Perhaps their experience was an unfortunate occurrence, or mine was unique but I wouldn’t be deterred by the one star reviews. The room was a good size, our porch was very spacious, the view was pretty good, it is centrally located, the bed was comfortable, and the people were nice. It is an older hotel which comes with a little bit of a musky smell but not so bad that it is offensive. It’s just old. If you are looking for a five star hotel experience this isn’t it but I would absolutely recommend this place to friends and family for the fact that it is quaint, comfortable and a hop skip from the main walkway.
