Lovely place, charming area, wonderful brunch. A nice peaceful respite in the middle of visiting cities in Scandinavia

Very historic hotel. You can visit the hotel to learn about its history, from the hotel built before World War I to how it has evolved step by step to today. The hotel has a restaurant and the front desk service is very professional.

Best location.^^ The best history and nature meet to bring you a good experience in Norway. Hiking on the back mountain is also recommended. ^^

What a fantastic place to stay. The older part of the hotel is amazing. Beautifuly situated and the older part is like something out of a period movie. Buffet breakfast is extensive and delicious. Staff are helpful and friendly. The newer part to the hotel seems a little contrasting to the older part but probably needed to ensure the hotel could accommodate more guests. We ate in the bar on our first of 2 nights. Family of 4, 2 adults and 2 children. Was approximately 85 british pounds with drinks. I had the burger and it was delicious....

Traditional fjord hotel. On a point of land surrounded by the fjord, so great views from all sides. Good location near ferry dock, grocery store, bus pick-up etc. There is a new wing of the hotel and an historic wing. Rooms in the new wing are pretty basic. Dinner was buffet at night. Pretty much a feeding frenzy when the large groups come in. There is the option for a limited fixed price menu. Staff in the restaurant very friendly. Staff at the front desk are not helpful or friendly at all, even when the area was not crowded.

Stayed here for 8 days at the beginning of July. Had a room overlooking the fjord, with beautiful views. We were in the modern block, the room was clean, the beds very comfortable. The room was not enormous, but adequate for our needs and with a balcony to take advantage of the views. The food was buffet style, and of a high quality. If you like fish especially you will love the variety of fish and seafood. There was a good choice all round. Staff were friendly and helpful. The reception rooms in the old part of the hotel, were fascinating, quirky and interestingly furnished. They were a delight. The hotel was like Norway itself a lovely place to visit.

The original Victorian building is the place to stay—its rooms each have a private balcony overlooking the pier and a magnificent fjord view. The lounges feature wonderful wood carvings and tapestries, and they are furnished in a traditional style. The buffet breakfast is excellent, too. And the town is charming with hiking all around the area. The hotel is conveniently located right at the ferry landing.

Brilliant trip to Balestrand in Norway with Newmarket Holidays. Our tour guide, Steve was one if the best guides we've had. Spot on and always to hand if needed, such a nice laid back guy but on the ball 24/7. Hotel was good, so much seafood and fish ( there's was always 2 different meats as well) buffet style meals. Good quality. The room was ok. Plenty of hot water, clean sheets and very comfortable beds. Not in the room long enough to nit-pick things that are not important. Room overlooked a ffiord. Balcony with a couple of chairs to enjoy the wonderful views. Balestrand it's self was very quiet and picturesque, great place to chill out. Newmarket offered trips each day, wow we went to some fantastic places. The weather was very kind to us which was a massive bonus.

The hotel is located along the wonderful Sognefjord, few meters away from Balestrand's quay. The common areas are clean and some rooms reminded me a museum, with historical forniture and art pieces. My room was spacious, clean, and had all I need, while the bathroom was big compared to the others I've been in Scandinavia, despite it needed some renovations in my opinion. Since the hotel had some spare capacity, my room was upgraded and I was assigned a room with a terrific view on the fjord. The personnel is kind and professional. Breakfast was good both in terms of quality and variety. I had dinner at the Bistro on the terrace: the quality and portions were good, while prices were aligned to Norwegian average.

It was very expensive and poor food selection. There is also a banana fly flying around the dining room which is very disgusting. Ps: The newest building which looks like a block of flats and looks like a psychiatric hospital and is in a very bad condition.

We were disappointed by our stay at the Kviknes hotel - we stayed in the historical property which is absolutely gorgeous building but completed dated rooms. We had to change our room as the first room that was assigned had a strange musty smell as soon as one walked in. The furniture seems to be from the 1970s and never upgraded. The bathrooms are old with old fittings. The best thing about the room was the view and the balcony and considering we paid the higher price for the room with a view in the historical building we were thankful for the view. There are no frills in the room, very basic and surprising for a hotel of this stature. For dinner, we chose the 4 course dinner instead of the buffer. We were very happy that was the option we went for as walking into this huge dining hall with the buffet was not the best experience. There were rows and rows of people, many from cruise ships that were there for the night and it seemed like a college dining hall rather than a restaurant. My recommendation would be to separate out the buffet from the 4 course option so that one can experience a beautifully prepared meal in a better surrounding. The hotel has enough space to do that. Also, our server was friendly but too busy chatting with a guest throughout the evening and was not very attentive to our needs. It was a disappointment stay at a beautiful property which really needs to be modernized and renovated. Not a good value for money.

This hotel was used as the accommodation for a Newmarket holiday tour to the Western Fjords. I travelled solo and therefore paid a single supplement. The price of the tour included half board at this hotel. I called Newmarket ahead of the trip to let them know that I follow a vegan diet so I was surprised and disappointed at the very limited vegan options available. Not good value for money!

We stayed here one night. The hotel is just beside the port in the small town. We were in the old part of the hotel so sink in room and old bath with shower in bathroom. The room was fine and bed comfortable. The hotel rooms on the ground floor and atmospheric. Breakfast was ok and very busy. The hotel was fine for one night.
