AlamGangga Villas Tirta Gangga

These villas were fabulous for a relaxing stay if you just want to walk short distances, swim, read and totally relax. Our villa looked straight onto the pool and the rice fields behind it. The restaurant is very popular with day trippers visiting Tirta Gangga but we found we didn't really know they were there. We were the only ones staying there as it was low season. Had the pool to ourselves. Breakfast is lovely and there are fish ponds everywhere. The staff are so friendly and it is a very short walk to Tirta Gangga and warungs that sell all the necessities like beer, water, soft drinks and snacks. We will definitely return as it was so relaxing.

In order to go diving in the wreck location the next day, I booked a relatively close hotel. The location of the hotel is too remote. I rented a car and drove it for more than 2 hours after dinner in Ubud. I used Gaode navigation to get me into a dead end, almost couldn't come out, and finally met a little brother riding a motorcycle nearby to contact the hotel, the hotel came to pick us up at our location. In short, the location is too difficult to find. On the mountain, in the fields, the humidity is large, and the sheets are a bit damp.

Charming, boutique hotel (about 30 rooms) which I stayed in for 3 nights. Positives: Staff all very friendly and helpful (more than happy to assist with local phone calls, to arrange an early breakfast - cooked - on the days I was diving and arrange a driver at a reasonable price to take me to the airport at the end of my stay), ”front of house” staff (reception and the manager (Mr Made)) had very good English, large, clean rooms. Negatives: the WiFi is poor - the hotel has about 7 different WiFi networks and none worked well at all in my room (on a laptop, iPhone or Android mobile phone) - the best I managed was to connect for about 10mins of slow connection before it dropped (did not have this problem at any other hotel I stayed at in Bali), the restaurant has a very limited food menu and the restaurant staff have notably less English (still very friendly and helpful though) than the reception staff. Observation: hotel is situated quite a distance from anywhere - there is only 1 restaurant outside the hotel within reasonable (say 30mins) walking distance and that had even more limited menu than the hotel Candidasa is about a 20mins drive away, so I suggest you bring wheels or download both Grab and Go Jek if you want to rely on local taxis. Overall, 3.5/5.

We stayed here for a night and it was good value for money. Check in was efficient and we appreciated the welcome drink. The grounds are very large and well tendered. You can hear the sea, but you have to leave the grounds to see it, so please don’t expect an ocean view. The more expensive rooms have been renovated and are lovely. Unfortunately the one we had booked was very small and in need of an update. ( our fault) we should have researched it more carefully. The food was excellent. Freshly made, good size portions and tasty. There is an extensive drinks menu and these are good value The hotel is situated on a corner, so there is some noise as scooters go past and people celebrate sunrise and sunset but it is comforting. The staff are very efficient and friendly.
