A pleasant hotel a little already needing works. The bathrooms are already in use. The floor and very old locks. For people with reduced mobility, it becomes very complicated only to have bathrooms. The breakfast is satisfactory. The hygiene tb is present in the rooms and inside the hotel. But walking through the pool patio we found some less careful part behind the breakfast room. But nothing worrying. In general, a pleasant hotel for a weekend.

Hotel with modern lines, friendly and comfortable staff, spacious room with a beautiful view of the pool. A breakfast within the expected but the surprise was kept for the excellent quality of the Chaparro restaurant, which made us broadly happy with the decision made to book with half-pense. Only a reserve for the necessary maintenance, especially on the ceiling of the indoor pool and some details of the room, but that do not change our will to return.

After passing the gate of Porta Este De Marvão, turn right along the city wall and continue uphill. After reaching the top of the slope, turn right into R. de Santiago Road. Note that when you see a small road on the right (ie R. 24 de Janeiro road), enter immediately (don’t miss it). Proceed for about 50 meters to see an eaves arch bridge, under the bridge is the hotel reception. Please note that there are only 2 parking spaces (coordinates 39.393559, -7.376018) opposite the front desk, this parking space does not need to go up and down stairs for luggage and luggage. However, if the parking is full, you can only park at the other 8 parking spaces (coordinates 39.393512, -7.375692) near the R. do Embique road down the front slope. This parking space needs to go up and down stairs for luggage. Therefore, it is recommended to check in early. If the parking space you are using is not ideal, it does not matter. When checking out, you can put your luggage on the side of the front desk first, then drive the car over to load your luggage, and then leave. Although the road will be blocked during luggage loading, everyone is like this, it does not matter, other vehicles will wait patiently. The mountain city is basically a one-way street, it is best to ask the front desk to leave the route, so as not to go the wrong way. The 24-hour front desk staff are enthusiastic, professional and satisfied. The internal facilities of the room conform to the website introduction and are comfortable. There are waiters to clean the room, take out the garbage, change the towels and make the bed every day. Satisfaction. The hot water in the shower is good and worry-free. There are no slippers in the room, please bring your own. The view and service of the hotel restaurant are very good. The breakfast is rich and high quality. Dinner is exquisite. There are two lounges, very comfortable, don’t forget to enjoy them. If you live in the building opposite the restaurant, you can go back and forth through the arch bridge, which is of great significance in rainy days. I tried the Casa do Povo restaurant in the city. The local crock-pot lamb (with pictures, easy to order) is very delicious and highly recommended. It is recommended that Marvão exit the Porta Este De Marvão city gate and go down the hill to the ancient Roman road of Portagem via the Convento de Nossa Senhora da Estrela. The trail takes about 2 hours. Most of the trails are shaded. It goes down the road, and the birds and flowers are scented. The front desk provides free trail maps to Portagem under the mountain, recommends local restaurants and provides the phone number of the taxi driver on the return journey. If you can’t get in touch, the Portagem restaurant waiters also have their own familiar taxi drivers (the return journey is about 20 Euros, acceptable), don’t worry. I tried Hotel Sever Rio e Restaurante Sever by the Portagem River. Only the tomato soup is delicious and generous, so I can recommend it.

We had an enjoyable four nights at the hotel staying in what is the new wing. Lovely view over fields with sheep and goats and hence very quiet which was what we wanted. The bed was large and very comfortable and the room was clean. Staff were friendly and spoke good English. The breakfast buffet was expansive and decent quality. There are a few things that could be done to make the stay more enjoyable though. First, the wood floor in the lobby area of the room was loose and creaked every time we walked on it. It was odd that this hadn't been attended to. Second, the provision of a kettle with tea, coffee and cups would make a big difference. When you arrive back after a day out it really is nice to be able to make a cup of tea and relax. Instead, it was necessary to go to the bar and either wait to be served or find a member of staff to take the order. Yes, the hotel gets the revenue from selling you the drink but relative to the goodwill created by putting a kettle in the room it's minimal. Third, the food in the restaurant for dinner was fine, not spectacular. However, there seemed to be a bizarre approach in that we were given the menu, the order taken (including the drinks order) and bread and olives arrive but no drinks! Half an hour later I had to find the waitress to ask where my wife's G&T was. The response was that ”The staff are busy.” This was repeated the second night albeit with a shorter wait. In any restaurant or hotel I've been in the drinks are normally served first. Strange. The above may seem trivial but they detracted from an otherwise enjoyable stay and suggests a hotel that needs to work a bit harder on the basics. Would we come back? Probably not.

We had booked a two-day stay in “Alter do Chão” at the hotel “Vila Galé de Alter do Chão and stayed in the Solar of the hotel. Both the main building and the Solar have an outdoor swimming pool with plenty of sun loungers. The room was very clean and spacious, the beds were comfortable, and we were not bothered by noise from the people at the pool. The breakfast was buffet style and there was more than enough choice, something for everyone. We had booked half board and in the evening this was also in buffet form, for people who want it differently, they can also eat á la carte, which of course can take a little longer. The reception is a bit on the slow side, but all in all not too bad, the staff is super friendly, the only downside is the road from the reception to the Solar, which has no pavement and is very uneven. Result with the high temperature, a lot of dust is stirred up, which can be a problem if you have to walk to the restaurant, and certainly when it rains (5 minutes on foot), there is also more than enough parking space at the solar. This hotel is certainly worth recommending, it has horses and a allot of birds of prey with museum.
