MAD Monkey Cebu City

Cebu Downtown Cebu|0.7km from Blessed Sacrament Parish
Me and my friend stayed at mad monkey for 5 days which was far too long but we didn’t know when we booked that there wasn’t much to do. When we arrived we didn’t get the most friendly welcome from reception we didn’t get told about any events going on in the hostel or any trips that the hostel were offering We found the room was quite dirty and very loud on the road side. The air con made the loudest noises and half the time it was hot. The room smelt very mouldy and damp. The floors looked like they haven’t been cleaned for months especially looking under the beds. The walls were cracked and the paints hanging of the walls. No one cleaned the room in 5 days but we did get toilet roll delivery’s. We found it quite hard to chill near the pool as there wasn’t any comfy chairs and it was a greenhouse in there and soo hot we couldn’t sit there for long. It’s all enclosed and we was told on a very occasions that they couldn’t turn on the aircon. We was pretty disappointed with the food prices(the food was nice) although the pizza doughs were a bit undercooked they were so expensive to say it’s a hostel with backpackers on a budget staying there. For 2 meals it cost us £15. And we spent £3 getting a can of red bull which would cost less in England. We wanted to join in on the beer pong one night and we was told we wasn’t aloud to play if we didn’t buy a bucket of beer which was a big of a money making scheme really so we didn’t end up playing and we didn’t want to drink that night to save on money. Everyone should be able to play as some people don’t drink alcohol. We enjoyed to music quiz we found that was a good laugh. The music was very good in the bar and the dj was great. We also found out you couldn’t buy bottled water which was disappointing so we went to the shop to get bottles. They only have one water dispenser in the full building which is very inconvenient and should have one on every floor. we thought the monkey punch was great and did get you drunk with the free shots. Our only recommendation is that you do this promotion later as 7-8 is still quite early if you don’t go out till 12. Overall wasn’t the best and wouldn’t recommend for backpackers on a budget.

I ended up staying 2 nights at this great hotel. I really reccomend it. Great sized room, fast wifi, good free breakfast, really friendly staff and location great with a cheap restaurant with lovely Filipino home cooked food next door. Just a short 5 minute walk up to Mango Square and the area seems safe enough. I'll go back when in Cebu City for sure!

Stayed at their highest room category the Royal Suite PROS: 1. Affordable - they have a range of room for your budget, from dorm type to suites, my suite room was value for money considering the large floor area 2. Accesibility Located right next to the highway, accesible to public transportation 3. Great location - few blocks away from big malls, walking distance to church 4. Large room - Suite room was well equiped, floor to ceiling windows with good view, royal suite has separate reciving area 5. Comfortable bed - duvet covers, soft pillows 6. Ammenities provided Complete toiletries and complementaries CONS: 1. Slightly outdated hotel - needs furniture refurbishing and some paint jobs to chipped wall paints 2. Poorly lit hallways 3. Only local tv channels no cable channels 4. Limited selection plated breakfast For backpackers who'll spend most of the days outdoors this is still a value for money, thanks to the front desk staff for the room upgrade

The place is perfect if you are planning to just stay in the city. The hotel itself is connected to robinsons mall, so if you want to buy something or maybe eat, then this hotel is perfect for you. Few things that needs to be improved, I wish the management will also provide extra amenities there were no lotion in the room, floor was a bit slippery just for the safety of the guest, especially older people.. but other than that, reception is good in service and friendly. we’ll come back soon..

The hotel is old and the air conditioning is buzzing, which is the level of domestic small hotels! However, breakfast is included for more than a day. There is a newly opened shopping mall next to it. It is also very convenient to eat and eat. It is less than two kilometers from sm and it takes only ten minutes to walk there. See the stray streak, do n’t mind staying for safety, it is close to the pier to mint, it can be used as a transit

The mattress was low quality. You can feel the wires of the springs. We turned it over but the same. It really needs a good thick mattress topper. The air-conditioner was very noisy. There needs to be signs in the passage way that should instruct people to be quiet because people sleep here. Kids were noisy, slaming doors and talking loudly.
