Vine Valley Inn

Spotlights were: (1) Location: Central of Cessnock. The Cessnock retail business district is just one block behind. It was easy to access WWS, Coles, BWS, Kmart, Big W, Aldi, EB Game, Reject Shop and Super Cheap Auto, etc. (2) Interior: Very colorful and modern vintage style. Beds were comfortable and bathroom was modern and clean. (3) Facilities: Shared full kitchen, dining and large lounge area, self-serving with eggs, fruits, toast, jams, milk, tea, coffee and juice, etc. Downside was: No ground floor rooms. Stairs were steep through both front door and back door (access to backyard parking). For a family with little kids or elderly, it will be a challenge.

Unfortunately have to give this establishment one star but if we could, we wouldn’t even rate it that highly. This establishment appears to be undergoing major refurbishment - we were not aware at all of this and nor was this made clear on booking. We would not have booked if the true condition of this place had been clear. It is effectively a building site. The photographs on *********** do not reflect the condition of this place. It is dirty. The public areas that one must use to access the one bedroom in use at time of our visit (seriously - we were apparently the only guests) are not only dirty but seriously dusty and even dilapidated. There was cable strung across the hallway and the public bar had areas taped off. Although food was apparently available, I know from my profession that for the establishment to have prepared any open food in the prevailing structural conditions would have constituted a major contravention of UK food hygiene law , if not an imminent risk to health. I do acknowledge however that Australian food hygiene laws may differ from UK or EU laws. There was no parking at the hotel despite staying on *********** that there was, we were obliged to park on the busy main road. The furniture on the verandah outside our room was dirty and fit only for the tip. There was a pair of worn socks on the corner of the sofa and dirty glasses remained uncollected on the table next to the sofa. The lock of the door to the verandah was smashed and hanging off, making it impossible to lock the door to exclude some of the noise of the road. We were incredulous that anyone would even use this area, let alone leave socks there. Our room had what appeared to be a newly refurbished bathroom that could have been nice, if only it had been cleaned prior to our visit; there were splatters of ?toothpaste in the mirror and the glass shelf in the bathroom had marks left on it from someone else’s toiletries. There was a brown large stain on the ceiling of our room ?rust or something worse. The door lock looked as tho someone had tried to chew his/her way out of the room, the door frame was splintered and all horizontal surfaces in the room were dusty. The one bedside light was so dim as to be pretty useless but on reflection this did mean that further horrors remained undiscovered. The curtains were thin and did not block out the light at all. This place is situated by a busy main road - without earplugs and eye masks, sleep would have been impossible. There was a communal kettle, fridge and microwave down the hallway but frankly they were dirty and had seen much better days. Apart from some disposable plastic cups - we didn’t touch anything else in that area. We left just before 8am having decided that it was probably best to remain unwashed than use the shower in the room. This is the worst hotel by a huge margin that we have ever stayed in. It looks like, and is, a building site and frankly is not currently fit to let out rooms. To
Cumberland Motor Inn

I booked a family room and a double room, paid half of the cost of each room for the deposit, was emailed an Invoice with the room numbers on it. Travelled from Sydney for a family function close by and rang early in the afternoon to advise we were there and would arrive there early in the evening. I got a phone call around 6.45pm to say they had over booked the rooms and only the family room was available but we could stay in a double room in the Vine Valley Inn a minute away. How was this possible? My family that stayed at Cumberland said it was very out of date as was the Inn we were sent to. Very disappointing and unacceptable It really spoilt our trip

It is a good and clean and descent sized cabin for small family, air conditioning is at the living room area so need to open the bedroom doors to keep the cool air going through, descent kitchenette with hot plate and microwave/oven to cook and heat your meal, easy access to local shops and good amenities. I suggest to increase safety measures in the pool area to prevent injury as I hurt myself and a couple of friends while walking in the pool.

While the grounds are lovely and the rooms are very nice from the outside and very large inside they are really in need of renovations and some updated furniture. The walls badly need a paint and the furniture is very old and worn. The table in our unit was glass topped and not very clean. It wobbled on its legs so much it was hard to sit at. There is a lovely pub at the front of the location but unfortunately it was not open on the nights we stayed except for one (even though when we rang them prior to arriving they said they would be) and there is no other place to eat at unless you want to drive to them so we had to improvise. We tried to use the oven and cooktop but they are so old that it was very difficult to heat anything up. I really thought that places would have used the long lock down we have just come out of to make sure everything would be sparkling clean and everything in working order. The dust on the lamps and lamp bulbs was an inch thick. Surely these accommodation places should be making sure everything has been cleaned for people to stay especially because of Covid. I had to wipe everything down with disinfectant wipes just to make sure. Don't rely on the reception area being open as it is closed most of the time. I rang to confirm my booking and had to leave a message but I am still waiting on the phone call back and we have been home for 4 days now. It is very disappointing as we were really looking forward to getting away for a few days after being in lock down for so long. The area is lovely to go for a visit though I just probably wouldn't stay here again.
