Room and staff very helpful. Breakfast was excellent. Only downside was price. Admittedly it was a Saturday night, but £90+ was a bit expensive. Only 10 min walk from cricket ground ans Aldi close by to stock up on supplies for next day at cricket!

The room was spacious and clean, most importantly the location is very quiet meaning that you can get a decent night's sleep. We had dinner at the hotel along with some friends, unfortunately the group suffer multiple allergies and intolerances, Helda (the restaurant/bar manager?), took control of our ordering checking each order with the kitchen and even ensuring that a new batter was made up for my wife who wanted fish. It was an immense relief to deal with a team who understood the importance of allergies which led to a relaxed enjoyable meal. The food was better than expected for a hotel and in my books rated as good. Breakfast was freshly cooked and again rated good, the coffee was a bit cool but you can't expect perfection. Having tried many hotels in the area we will book again. Fans in the room would have been a welcome addition, otherwise no major complaints.

We recently held our wedding ceremony and reception at Ivy Hill Hotel and words cannot adequately express how wonderful it was! The grounds are stunning and a photographer’s dream! So many locations that provide the perfect backdrop. The interior rooms are tasteful and elegant and can be adapted to any number of guests. The Ivy Suite and Ingatestone Room had extra little decorative touches that we had not asked for but were welcome additions. The canapes and dinner were truly scrumptious and temptingly presented; everyone commented on how delicious it was. The staff at Ivy Hill, without exception, are faultless. They provided an excellent service from the time we booked until the day itself and should be congratulated. We would like to give special mention to Charlotte, our initial contact, with whom we shared many emails. She was efficient and extremely helpful, keeping us updated on all aspects of the planning process. Jeremy put himself out in many ways and is a credit to you. That brings us to Libby – what a star she is! She contributed a great deal towards making our wedding so happy and joyful but in an unobtrusive way. Every wedding needs a Libby! From the time we first met her Libby provided invaluable advice and suggestions and we felt safe knowing she would be looking after us. There were so many guiding and thoughtful moments that are too numerous to list. Thank you Libby. All in all, if you are considering a wedding venue, think no further than Ivy Hill.

Such a great venue to get married. So helpful and ridiculously hard working all day. Annette was going all day and night to make the day run smoothly. She was a fantastic help throughout the process from looking around the venue in the first instance, to giving us our key in the wonderful Catherine of Aragon suite at 1am (when we were the last people standing - none of our family checking us in!) Our toastmaster Steve (included in the package) was a godsend. He organised everything on the day and we met up with him beforehand which gave us lots of peace of mind. So much character in the Samuel Pepsys Room and Henry VIII Suite. Gardens were so beautiful and in keeping with what we wanted. The food was just perfectly sized, there was soooo much in the evening buffet we could have had double the number of guests. Marygreen accommodated our choice to have a singer of our choosing alongside the package DJ so well. Paco in the bar was tireless, changing barrels frequently and keeping the drinks flowing all night. Top tip: if you need a photographer, use Ali's photography!

From our very first viewing to signing the contract, and throughout all the planning stages, Tracy and the entire team truly looked after us every step of the way. I checked in the day before my wedding, and the staff went above and beyond to make me feel so special and cared for during what can be quite a nerve-wracking time. The attention to detail, warmth, and care from everyone at Down Hall made all the difference. On the big day, everything was absolutely perfect. The venue was stunning, the team was on hand to ensure everything went smoothly, and we couldn’t have asked for a better day. Down Hall made our wedding day magical, and we are so grateful to Tracy and the team for making it such a seamless and memorable experience. We stopped at this Hotel on 17th September 2022 The Hotel is well placed in a good location, from the hotel there is a transfer bus to the airport every 30-minutes cost £4.00 per person payable on the bus. We booked the hotel through Holiday Extras and the cost included 7-days parking at the hotel, the car parks were large and secure, and you keep the car keys, we had no problems finding a parking space. The room we had was clean and spacious and we could not fault. We ate in the Hotel's Restaurant, the food and drinks were reasonably priced, and our waiter Dimitar was very polite and attenuative. If flying from Stanstead Airport again I would choose this hotel

I booked to stay here as I was going to the theatre and this is really close to there and the train station. The lady who checked us in said they're renovating which may explain the mound of rubbish we had to walk past to get up the outside stairs to access the rooms (you don't go through the pub to get to the rooms). Our room was nice (well stocked tea tray) and the bed really comfy and the shower was nice and powerful. There is a lot of stairs and to find the room was a bit of a maze (even though our room was above the bar), the hall smelt fusty and needs to have windows open in the daytime although I appreciate in winter that would make the place cold. I didn't like the fact that the outer door doesn't close automatically so anyone could walk into the building from the car park next to the pub, and it was also very noisy at night - its a busy road and also the other guests were loud and kept slamming doors and shouting on their phones in the corridor but that's not the pubs fault. I think for the price breakfast should be included.

BBatesReception staff very friendly and helpful. When I tried to check in the staff didn’t have my name but only my friends even though I was the one that paid for the room? Bar food was nice enough but quite expensive over £18 for 1 panini, 1 chips, soft drink & a tea! Room was clean and tidy and very quiet but unfortunately didn’t have the best sleep as bed was really uncomfortable, springs coming through the mattress and really lumpy hard pillows also which was a shame! Stayed there as music event was on at the Colchester Park and looked like it was the nearest hotel to it but walking there was a bit tricky as had to go across a main road and through a dodgy alleyway behind an industrial building which wasn’t signposted after the event had to walk the long way around through the town to get back to the hotel.
