I wasn’t going to write this review because I know how much damage a bad review can cause. We’ve been here twice, firstly for a breakfast which was delicious and the service was excellent then the following weekend we stayed on their campsite which is excellent, nipped in pub for a drink and chips at lunch which were delicious btw! Then went in for our evening meal which didn’t go great, i wont go into details, but they did try to rectify it eventually after a bit of a bad experience but it meant I ended up with only eating chips again for my dinner. What I did want to say to anyone reading this review is one bad meal or one bad review does not make a bad pub or restaurant! Unless every review is bad, remember places and people have bad days, im not going to pretend I was happy but when the owners realised what had occurred they did try to put it right.
The Hotel is absolutely spot on. The staff are friendly and very efficient. The rooms are fantastic, and the breakfast, second to none. The things to do around Dorchester are extremely interesting. Would certainly recommend a visit to the Roman Townhouse and the Tutankhamen exhibition.
We had lunch in the conservatory and received very attentive and friendly service. The menus was well considered, and the food was superb and served promptly. The view from the conservatory was just beautiful and all of the staff were professional and friendly. They made our visit memorable and Max showed us all around the property where we had got engaged - in the dining room - 38 years ago! Memorable.

There is new management ... Forget the bad reviews of 2022 they no longer apply. Service was attentive and friendly. Lovely log fire was welcome too. The food was excellent with something for everyone on the menu. My, usually very particular, friend raved about the Vietnamese Prawn Curry. We are local and hadn't been here for years because it wasn't great but now we will definitely be going there to eat fairly frequently.

What travellers say about Dorchester attractions
Discover these places worth visiting in Dorchester and select a hotel nearby for ultimate convenience
Dorset Museum
易易茜韵楹The Dorset Museum is quite small with several interesting galleries on different floors. The staff are very knowledgeable and can explain the exhibits inside. The first gallery has a mosaic Roman floor which is largely fascinating, especially the works of Thomas Hardy, and there is a cafe where you can read books and surf the internet.
Maiden Castle
易易茜韵楹Medenburg began six thousand years ago in the Neolithic era and eventually became the largest Iron Age mountain fortress in Britain. It is a huge wall surrounded by 50 football fields the size of a former home to hundreds of people and a completely hand-built castle.
Terracotta Warrior Museum
PPattyA unique experience visiting one of the eight wonders of the world and Unesco World Heritage Sites in China. With more than 2,000 years, the Terracotta Warriors is still amazed people and you can learn a lot about Chinese culture 2,000 years back!
Kingston Maurward Animal Park and Gardens
易易茜韵楹There are plenty of activity structures to explore, all animals have profiles and names. Extra feed can be purchased at a low price and pets can be brought inside, the garden is pleasant, weddings can be held in the church by the lake, and restaurants can be eaten.
Borough Gardens
易易茜韵楹The gardens, with their huge trees, elegant fountains and amusing bell tower, have recently been refurbished and improved, with two gardeners hard at work planting colourful flower beds, there are some huge copper beech trees, wide lawns and the original Roman walls can be seen just outside the entrance.
National Trust - Max Gate
易易茜韵楹There are guided tours in some of the rooms but as we entered this National Trust property we were given a very detailed guide. Sat down in a few different rooms and read all about Thomas Hardy and the house, there is no tea room and the attic room is open with quite a steep staircase.
