Our staying at the Witching Post Inn could have not been better. Our room was spacious and very confortable. And the place has a lot of personality and history. If you want to know the roots of this place you can speak to the landlord, Pete. But more important Pete makes you feel at home, as you are part of the family. The stories, the jokes and the environment in the pub is so cosy that makes you feel you are between friends. And don't look anywhere else for food and drinks. We had dinner in here during the Parmo night, and the food was fantastic, one of the best we had in the area. And this includes the beer and gins. Also, we vouch for the breakfast, the full breakfast is delicious and we couldn't get enough of it. If you are staying the area, please do yourself a favor and stay at the Witching Post Inn. I am glad we chose this place for our staying, and a big thanks to Pete and all the staff for the lovely and welcoming staying
Very good location for visiting North Yorks Moors Railway and near direct railway line to Whitby. Good base also for exploring North York Moors generally. a nice local country pub. Room was very clean and comfortable with well stocked coffee and tea. Food was very good and if any problems these were quickly resolved. The hosts and other staff were very friendly and amenable. A lovely place to stay.

Firstly, I should say that I very rarely give negative reviews. However, in this case, I need to make an exception for the DISGUSTING way that the owner, CRAIG SHELL, spoke to myself and my pregnant girlfriend – in response to us asking a straightforward question about loud music being played. He later threatened to remove us from the hotel for asking him a question. We stayed NYE 2024, when the hotel had a series of events on including a 4-course meal (costing £65), a band, saxophone player and midnight BBQ. This sounds like a sophisticated evening – which should be for the high cost of the meal. Although, what transpired was an extremely loud band playing rock music which could be heard from every corner of the hotel, followed by an unscheduled ‘disco’, catering for drunk (mainly teenage, non-resident) customers. The sax player never turned up. We went to an event off-site from 10pm-00:45am and arrived back to the disco which had become something akin to a nightclub/youth club – fuelled by alcohol. We completely understand that people party on NYE, get drunk, sing, etc. and we gave until 2am before my girlfriend POLITELY asked Craig to turn the music down. He instantly became ANGRY and ABUSIVE preceding to call her “stupid” for booking the hotel on NYE and getting uncomfortably close to her face shouting at her. My Girlfriend started retreating in the direction of the rooms to evade Craig and his angriness, where followed her. My girlfriend asked him to stop following, but he continued, indicating that he “would go anywhere he liked in his hotel!”. This is a CREEPY, arrogant, and inappropriate thing to say to a female guest. Craig is a BULLY, and the other reviews show that he picks on and tries to assert his dominance over female guests. Other guests and I could hear the commotion of Craig shouting and came downstairs. When I reached the corridor, I met a drunk red-faced Craig who became incredibly angry towards me as well – getting in my face, repeatedly saying that it is NYE and reiterated that we are “STUPID” for booking a room in his hotel. At one point, I was worried he was going to get violent. He argued that the loud music was communicated clearly on the hotel’s website and to the guests. If you see the screenshots provided, you can clearly see this is not true. Craig then angrily explained that he has a license until 5am the next day and would keep the pub open until the last guest leaves. I have never known this attitude before in my life – any reasonable/professional establishment would give you an estimate of the time that a ridiculously loud event would end. When I questioned this and asked him why he was so angry, he threatened to EVICT me and my PREGNANT* girlfriend out of the hotel – AT 2AM ON NYD!! What a fantastic start to the New Year by the owner of the hotel I have paid £240 to stay in. We had done absolutely nothing wrong. *Craig knew that my GF was pregnant as he also had a pop at us for not being out for a drink

This hotel is a perfect escape. It’s in a beautiful setting and very near the coast. The hotel itself was warm and comfortable. It was very clean too. The staff all seemed friendly. Food was very good. We had dinner, breakfast and a cream tea included. We enjoyed it all. The room (2nd floor Kingfisher) was huge. The bed was very comfortable and I slept really well. The was a little ‘tired’ but very clean. Plenty of fruit, teas and bottled water was provided. A really wonderful 1 night break.
Great find and place to stay, staff incredibly friendly and helpful, we stayed in the Reykjavik suite, everything you need is there from fridge to ice bucket they also have an ice maker in the dining area so you can actually fill it. Room was lovely huge spa bath was fantastic as was the shower come steam cubicle! Continental breakfast was excellent too, we will definitely be back!
Wonderful! Our stay started with a lovely welcome from our host. Made my wife and I, and our two small dogs, feel very much at home. An incredible house and lovely garden with a stream at the bottom. The dogs loved it. In a small valley and beautiful. Our room was large and well furnished. The bed was so comfy too. Breakfast was delicious and there is a set time for diners with dogs which is a good idea. We could have used the big lounge but didn’t. Looked great too. Lovely 5 minute walk on a little path taking us to the seafront. Sandsend is very picturesque. Friendly pub for food too. Dogs loved the beach as did we. Impressive views of Whitby too. This place astounded us. Didn’t expect how incredible the stay would be.

GGuest UserGreat pub in a great location near Scarborough and the Cleveland Way. Comfortable rooms, clean bathrooms, and provisions, including tea, coffee, biscuits, water, shampoo, and shower gel, are restocked daily. Really friendly and helpful staff, who went out of their way to help when the twin room we thought we had booked did not exist, and we needed breakfast earlier than the start time as we were leaving early to walk the Cleveland Way. Please note that if you are booking a room through a third party website, they all advertise the Blacksmiths Arms as having twin rooms when they do not. And breakfast is served from 8.30am. Overall, a very pleasant stay in a lovely pub.

We stayed at this lovely house (presumably originally the vicarage) for one night. I must say the Christmas decorations adorning the house were beautiful. The breakfast was also very good and the room in the annexe clean but pretty average. However it was noticeably cold hence my 3 star rating! When we arrived in the hotel at 3.00 (check-in) time I noticed how cold it felt. Disappointingly we had to go outside to the annexe to get to our room. On entering the heating wasn’t on and the bathroom and room were freezing! My husband managed to get the electric heater to work and we went out straight away to give the room time to heat up! Again at breakfast the dining room was noticeably cold with a tiny electric heater in the fireplace. Whether any radiator was on I’m not sure. Overall I wouldn’t recommend especially in the cold weather. Not at all cosy. Yes the Christmas decorations were extravagant, but the heating needs turning up and fires and stoves lighting!
We had stayed before in a lovely bay windowed room with a lot of space and a great wiew on the second floor. This time we were allocated an attic room on the 3rd floor. We were booked in for two nights and hadn't realised that the lift only went up to the 2nd floor. It was a real difficulty for me to get up the stairs as I am disabled. The service staff were very quick to offer help but my abled partner helped me up. The next day I explained the difficulties I was having and the very helpful receptionist re-allocated us a room on the 2nd floor, not as nice as the previous trip, but with a better window (the attic room only had a window that you had to stand up to see out of). The breakfast was very nice and the restaurant staff could not be faulted on ther politeness and service. Our room was a little tired, some heavy wear to furniture and fittings. I understand the Hotel is undergoing a lot of modernisation, mainly for wedding parties. I hope the atmospheric downstairs decor is not trashed. I also hate that the name has changed from Raven Hall to a meaningless 'Grand Heights Villa'-such corporate meaningless nonsense. If the atmosphere is not ruined we would go again providng we had one of the bay window rooms
