"The location of the hotel was amazing, just a 3-minute walk from Nagano Station, and there was a 7-Eleven store next door.
The hotel staff were really nice and helpful.
The hotel lacked a laundry room, but there is a big and very good coin laundry about 15 minutes walking distance from the hotel.
Although the hotel was okay in terms of cleanliness, it looked old and, in some areas, a little rough and outdated.
The room was small, but that’s not surprising for Japan. We managed with two people and two large suitcases in the room, you just have to be a bit creative.
In the end, for the price you pay for this hotel (at least what we paid), it was a steal."
"We had a wonderful stay at Mercure Nagano Matsushiro Resort & Spa. The hotel has a perfect balance of comfort, relaxation, and authentic local charm.
The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive from the moment we arrived, making check-in smooth and stress-free. Our room was spacious, clean, and offered beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Beds were comfortable, and the amenities were thoughtfully provided.
One of the highlights was the onsen (hot spring)—a truly relaxing experience after a day of exploring Nagano. The spa area was clean, well-maintained, and never felt crowded.
Breakfast and dinner at the hotel restaurant exceeded our expectations, with a great mix of Japanese and international options. The variety and quality of food made every meal enjoyable.
The location is also excellent for sightseeing. Being close to Matsushiro Castle and other historic spots gave us a deeper appreciation of the area, while still being a short drive from Nagano city center.
Overall, this resort is perfect for both families and couples who want to enjoy comfort, good food, and a true Japanese hot spring experience. We left feeling refreshed and would happily return again!"
"The hotel is nicely situated between the train station and the temple. The room was clean and the staff very efficient. The lobby area had a welcoming area that had free soft drinks and teas and coffee as well as small snacks in the afternoon. We had to delay my arrival a day due to a delay that set us back a day and whilst this was not a problem to sort with the hotel I did still have to pay the full day. Technically this was the rule but sometimes given the trouble we had getting there a little flexibility would have gone a long way."
"Very clean, looks like a relatively new building or newly renovated Toyoko Inn. Good breakfast with a beautiful view of the alps from the top floor. 10 minute walk to the train station, which is not bad. Unfortunately we didn’t know we had to call to reserve parking, but the parking attendant was nice about it and directed us to a different public lot. I read signs saying that parking will change to first come first serve basis in May. Happy with our stay"
"The hotel is conveniently located about halfway between Nagano Station and Zenko-ji Temple. While the hotel itself is a bit dated, the breakfast was a definite highlight. The restaurant, situated on the 14th floor, offered an especially rich and varied selection of specialty dishes."
"The location is convenient, right inside the JR station. The bus to Togakushi Shrine is just downstairs, making it a great base for exploring surrounding cities from Nagano. The only downside is that the train tracks are right outside the window, so there's train passing bell noise and track vibrations. If you're sensitive to sleep environments, you might want to reconsider."
"Since I was leaving early in the morning, I stayed overnight without breakfast.
The room was old, but it was close to Nagano Station and easy to get to the bar district, so it was convenient.
The only disappointment was that the large public bath was only for men."
"Nice clean hotel with many goodies.
Free soba at night, ice cream or probiotic drink after a nice onsen.
It's near the JR station but is on a street that is closed to cars on the weekend. Unable to locate the hotel due road closure on a Sunday.i would like to thank the staff for allowing us to drop our bags, guide us to the car rental company and alley our anxiety."
"Room was extremely worth it's pricing with the cleanliness and you could feel the exquisiteness of the hotel from entering through the main doors all the way to your room.
Walking distance to multiple interesting areas such as Zenkoji Temple and very pretty eateries around the area.
1 extremely disturbing thing was whereby 1 of the huge mirrors by the make up table was right infront of our beds which made my family and I have a paranoid night stay. Other wise everything was top tier!"
"The location is very good, opposite Matsumoto Station! Behind Tokyu Rei Hotel, opposite Tokyu Department Store! In short, the location is great!
1/ The room is a standard Japanese room layout, small but complete.
2/ Service The front desk staff communicated very clearly and had a good attitude.
3/ The hotel provides all the equipment, including the full range of refa supplies. Just take a card and ask the front desk to get it.
4/ I didn't get up to eat breakfast, but there was a donut as a welcome gift after I arrived. Coffee and tea bags were provided in the lobby on demand.
5/ All toiletries, supplies, mouthwash, and even nose stickers were provided, so there is nothing they don't provide except what you can't think of, and there are also children's bathing tools!
6/ The room does not provide drinking water, but each person is given coins for two bottles of water per day, which can be exchanged from the vending machine.
7/ The room is very quiet"

Amazing
GGuest UserVery good experience of visiting Shanguang Temple, the exquisite all-vegetarian kaiseki cuisine is impressive and suitable for travelers who really want to visit. Everyone in Sufang is kind and courteous.
GGuest UserOur stay at Shukubo Gokui was incredible. So much history and spirit, and although we spoke very little Japanese we were greeted warmly by the family. Every breakfast and dinner served was so thoughtfully presented and delicious. The onsite bath is very clean and almost like a private onsen. The room was warm and comfortable, and it was magical to be in the space with the winter snow piling outside. The location cannot be any better, very near the beautiful Chusha Shrine, on the path to the other shrines in Togakushi, within walking distance to the town Onsen and ski resort, and probably one of the closest lodgings to the bus stop. The original structure is from 1815 with thoughtful updates to make the space comfortable and warm. That foreigners and visitors are allowed to stay at Shokubo Gokui that has been so thoughtfully cared for by the family for years is incredibly special, an experience we will remember for a long time. I hope we can return again.
GGuest UserHotel is about a 5-10 min walk from Nagano Station. Very convenient. Check in was through a machine with help from the friendly staff. Check out was really quick.
The rooms are bigger than we expected and everything we need was there. Bed was comfortable and we slept through well. Plus plus.
Overall, it was a good value, good location and comfortable stay for us.
Will not hesitate to return.
KKs TamThe location is great and it is well maintained. I stayed in the 4 beds female dorm, it was spacious. The bed was big with a little desk at one side of the bed for organising personal items. Each bed has their own charging pod. There are some limitations though: the lift can't be used so suitcases are moved up via staircase. I have to go down to the 2nd floor for the bathroom and toilet. I am not sure how many people are sharing them but I never need to wait an they are clean.
AAnton VoroshilinThis is an extremely cosy place, but I would not dare describe it as luxurious. It is dated and simple, with the most basic amenities.
However, I liked it a lot. The best part about this ryokan is its owner, an elderly man. He truly puts his heart and soul into his establishment. He even suggested to give us a ride to the station, however the weather was nice and we decided to walk instead.
I'd like to highlight the breakfast: it was gorgeous, given the price. I'd even say it tasted better than a ¥3000 dinner I had at some local restaurant.
The whole experience felt like visiting your grandparents, who live in a village, during the summer.
IIvanReceptionist was very friendly, recommending places to eat and things to do. Room was clean. The washing machine is free to use. Bed was very soft and comfortable. Location is about 15-20 mins walk from nagano station. And about 10 mins walk to zenkoji temple, you can wake up early and walk to see the early morning prayer that occurs at sunrise.
Lots of food options as it is beside gondo shopping street
Aastro.sergiuThis is a truly authentic experience! Cosy, with traditional furniture and bed, whilst still offering very comfortable options it's the best of both worlds. Plus, the view is among the best in town and the breakfast is authentic and charming. It was a beautiful experience to say here and the fact the hosts did not speak English actually added to the experience. I'd be sure to visit again next time I'm in Nagano.
