"I stayed three nights in Nagano, and the hotel's location was super convenient. It was easy to catch buses for day trips to Togakushi Shrine and Hakuba Iwatake. The room was spacious enough, and the breakfast was excellent with local specialties. Plus, there were tons of dining options nearby."
"Toyoko Inn is always my go to when travelling outside of Tokyo. Location is always fantastic, rooms are clean, beds comfortable and you get everything you need (including breakfast)."
"Very good experience at this hotel, good for a short stay. Everything was very well organized and professional, the staffs were quite lovely, rooms were clean and comfortable and everything worked well.. great location."
"Highly surprised with thjs room! So spacious and well-equipped with amenities! Parking is also available although one has to walk abit as it is behind the hotel. There are 2 TV’s and 1 remote so will need to toggle left and right. Bed is good although pillow can be more firm in my own opinion.
With mountain view and waking up to sunrise, what a way to wake up. We didn’t have breakfast so we wouldn’t know about the variety. There’s a convenience store just a few blocks down.
Overall, we enjoyed out stay here in Hotel JAL - specifically this room :D"
"The staff was very helpful and professional. Before our stay, I inquired about shipping our luggage to the airport, and as we checked in they had information for me for when I needed to bring my luggage down. Also, I didn't need to do any of the paperwork (as I did at Karaska Hotel in Tokyo). The staff took care of everything for me. All I had to do was pay for it.
The hotel is connected to the train station via the Midori market place. From the second floor of the hotel we accessed the Midori market area where we purchased a lof of our omiyage(gifts for friends). The train station had about 4 floors of stores attached to it. We had breakfast at the train station -- a small udon stand. The location was very good and I would definitely book here again. The train station has a pedestrian bridge on the second floor that connects to the Don Quixote across the street. 2 km away is the Zenkoji Temple, where there is a shopping street and a large Buddhist temple to visit.
Our room was cleaned every day and they were very conscientious and very careful. They left a note saying that any cups with liquids are left as is just in case. There was three of us sharing a room with two singles and an additional bed. The room was spacious even with three of us sharing. There was a little table with two chairs on the side."
"Room was extremely worth it's pricing with the cleanliness and you could feel the exquisiteness of the hotel from entering through the main doors all the way to your room.
Walking distance to multiple interesting areas such as Zenkoji Temple and very pretty eateries around the area.
1 extremely disturbing thing was whereby 1 of the huge mirrors by the make up table was right infront of our beds which made my family and I have a paranoid night stay. Other wise everything was top tier!"
"The hotel is nicely situated between the train station and the temple. The room was clean and the staff very efficient. The lobby area had a welcoming area that had free soft drinks and teas and coffee as well as small snacks in the afternoon. We had to delay my arrival a day due to a delay that set us back a day and whilst this was not a problem to sort with the hotel I did still have to pay the full day. Technically this was the rule but sometimes given the trouble we had getting there a little flexibility would have gone a long way."
"One of the bigger hotel rooms I have stayed in Japan so far. Free welcome cake and drink, free unlimited ice cream during your stay and a small treat when checking out. They also have the most variety of tea available for you to enjoy during your stay.
The hotel is also quite close to the Nagano station. You can see the hotel building when you exit the East exit."
"We chose a double room, which was very very good. The room we stayed in was spacious, not cramped, clean, and the bed was comfortable. When you walk down the stairs in front of the hotel, there is a 7-Eleven, which is very convenient. However, if you drag your luggage to Nagano train station, it will take about 10-15 minutes, but it is not a big obstacle. If you have a car, the hotel has a parking lot, but you have to drive for about 5 minutes. Overall, it is okay. I am very satisfied with this hotel."
"The location of the hotel was amazing, just a 3-minute walk from Nagano Station, and there was a 7-Eleven store next door.
The hotel staff were really nice and helpful.
The hotel lacked a laundry room, but there is a big and very good coin laundry about 15 minutes walking distance from the hotel.
Although the hotel was okay in terms of cleanliness, it looked old and, in some areas, a little rough and outdated.
The room was small, but that’s not surprising for Japan. We managed with two people and two large suitcases in the room, you just have to be a bit creative.
In the end, for the price you pay for this hotel (at least what we paid), it was a steal."

Amazing
GGuest UserOur stay at Shukubo Gokui was incredible. So much history and spirit, and although we spoke very little Japanese we were greeted warmly by the family. Every breakfast and dinner served was so thoughtfully presented and delicious. The onsite bath is very clean and almost like a private onsen. The room was warm and comfortable, and it was magical to be in the space with the winter snow piling outside. The location cannot be any better, very near the beautiful Chusha Shrine, on the path to the other shrines in Togakushi, within walking distance to the town Onsen and ski resort, and probably one of the closest lodgings to the bus stop. The original structure is from 1815 with thoughtful updates to make the space comfortable and warm. That foreigners and visitors are allowed to stay at Shokubo Gokui that has been so thoughtfully cared for by the family for years is incredibly special, an experience we will remember for a long time. I hope we can return again.
GGuest UserThe room was clean and spacious. Although the furniture felt a bit old-fashioned, it was still very comfortable and had everything I needed for a pleasant stay. The hotel is conveniently located near Nagano Station, which made getting around very easy. If I visit Nagano again, I’d definitely stay here.
KKs TamThe location is great and it is well maintained. I stayed in the 4 beds female dorm, it was spacious. The bed was big with a little desk at one side of the bed for organising personal items. Each bed has their own charging pod. There are some limitations though: the lift can't be used so suitcases are moved up via staircase. I have to go down to the 2nd floor for the bathroom and toilet. I am not sure how many people are sharing them but I never need to wait an they are clean.
GGuest User1) Location: Get off at Zhongshe and walk about 3-400 meters. You can reach it in a straight line.
2) Hotel: Decorated in the 1980s-1990s, there is no heating in the corridor, but there is heating in the room, and the temperature is suitable. There is no bathing in the hotel. The hot spring is in a large covered tub. There is no heating in the shower room and toilet.
3) Meals: You can order them at the hotel. The boss’s skills are pretty good and delicious, but not very cheap.
[Five-star recommendation] Try to avoid bringing a trolley suitcase in winter. The road is too difficult to walk. It is uphill to get to the hotel. I arrived at night and fell a few times. It was too painful.
AAnton VoroshilinThis is an extremely cosy place, but I would not dare describe it as luxurious. It is dated and simple, with the most basic amenities.
However, I liked it a lot. The best part about this ryokan is its owner, an elderly man. He truly puts his heart and soul into his establishment. He even suggested to give us a ride to the station, however the weather was nice and we decided to walk instead.
I'd like to highlight the breakfast: it was gorgeous, given the price. I'd even say it tasted better than a ¥3000 dinner I had at some local restaurant.
The whole experience felt like visiting your grandparents, who live in a village, during the summer.
IIvanReceptionist was very friendly, recommending places to eat and things to do. Room was clean. The washing machine is free to use. Bed was very soft and comfortable. Location is about 15-20 mins walk from nagano station. And about 10 mins walk to zenkoji temple, you can wake up early and walk to see the early morning prayer that occurs at sunrise.
Lots of food options as it is beside gondo shopping street
Aastro.sergiuThis is a truly authentic experience! Cosy, with traditional furniture and bed, whilst still offering very comfortable options it's the best of both worlds. Plus, the view is among the best in town and the breakfast is authentic and charming. It was a beautiful experience to say here and the fact the hosts did not speak English actually added to the experience. I'd be sure to visit again next time I'm in Nagano.
