"The location is great, not far from the shopping street and Otaru Station. The hotel's private parking is ¥1500 per day, while the convenience store next door charges ¥1100, though figuring out their payment machine can be a bit tricky.
The service was excellent; the staff were very polite.
The exclusive large public bath for guests is a highlight. The men's and women's bath locations switch daily, so pay attention to that. There are clear illustrated instructions in the hotel room for the other steps, so you can't go wrong. The TV also conveniently displays the current number of people in the baths, which is very helpful.
My only minor complaint is about the light above the mirror; it took me a while to find the switch (it was on the countertop). However, I must praise the fact that I could contact the front desk using Ctrip's free call service, which was very useful and helped resolve this issue."
"We stayed at Grids Premium Otaru as a family of three in a room with three beds, and the space was very good by Japanese standards. We loved the vibes of this new hotel — the lobby is very cozy, and the overall atmosphere made our stay extremely comfortable.
The location is excellent, within walking distance from Otaru Station, Otaru Canal, and nearby attractions. From our room, we enjoyed beautiful scenery overlooking the Otaru Canal and the sea. It was snowing during our stay, which made the view even more magical and memorable.
The room is well equipped with a good air system, allowing us to choose between heating or air
conditioning. The windows can be opened slightly for ventilation, which we really appreciated. The beds were soft and very comfortable, ensuring a good night’s rest for all of us. The shower, toilet, and sink are all separated, which made it very convenient for everyone to use.
We also enjoyed the onsen in the hotel. Although it is small, it feels cozy and relaxing. The outdoor onsen is a highlight — open to the sky, allowing us to enjoy the falling snow at the same time. Access to the onsen is secure, as the doors only open when tapped with the correct men’s or women’s room card, which made us feel safe and reassured.
The hotel also provides practical facilities, including two washer-and-dryer machines and two microwaves on Level 1, which were very convenient during our stay. A Lawson convenience store is located right next door, making it easy to grab snacks or necessities anytime.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our two-night stay here and would highly recommend Grids Premium Otaru, especially for families looking for a comfortable, well-located, and modern hotel in Otaru."
"Wonderful stay at this onsen hotel. We tried most of the public onsen and had a very relaxing experience. So we paid for the private onsen as well and drinks are free inside. Dinner is included in my package and tasted delicious."
"Surprised that this hotel is so near to the famous tourist attraction, and we are able to check in the hotel so early at 12.30pm. The room is very clean and neat, though the room we gotten offers no view (quite disappointed that o have asked for during my booking).
The hotel breakfast is fantastic and servings were all top notch. So happy that my family loves it so much."
"Had a very enjoyable stay at Granbell Hotel in Japan. The hotel is clean, pleasant, and has a comfortable atmosphere, which made the whole experience relaxing.
The staff were consistently nice, polite and very helpful whenever assistance was needed. The lobby and common areas felt well-maintained, and the overall environment was welcoming.
One particularly convenient feature is the hotel’s water dispensers, offering free-flow cold and room-temperature water, which was great for refilling bottles throughout the day. Overall, it is a hotel worth recommending and one to consider staying at again in the future."
"The location is not at the central Otaru but it is about 15 minutes drive to the central attractions. Service is not the best. Check-in strictly at 2pm. Arrived close to 1pm but was told cannot check-in and need to wait until 2pm. Came back at 1.40pm still told the same statement to wait until 2pm. The upside is the hotel is directly connected to AEON mall. Don't expect much from the AEON. There are around 6-7 eateries only. You can buy some fresh stuff if you like. There is post office in the AEON mall which you can mail you things back. Parking in the hotel is not free. Chargeable at ¥1,650 per day with multiple entry allow. Breakfast option is not great. You can get better food outside for the pricing unless it is included in the room package."
"The best thing about this hotel is its location next to the canal. We booked a triple room with canal view. We can see the canal from our room. However, the furniture inside the room and also every where in the hotel are quite dated. My mum said, if anybody can remove the cupboards then that is even better.
We parked our car behind the hotel. We were charge 1200yen for the use of the car park. Then there was a charge of 150yen per person for the onsen fee which was collected at the hotel regardless you use the onsen or not.
The onsen is located at the central building. So the guests have to transfer to the central building at the 1st floor or 7th floor to get to the onsen. The onsen is quite basic, with only one pool.
The laundry room is located at the level 1. Cost is 400 yen per wash and 200 yen per drying. The bad thing is, similar to other feedback online, one dry cycle is not enough - so it’s a waste of time (or money).
Tried the lonia restaurant at the level 1 for dinner. It was quite decent although not the best."
"1. Great location, less than 8 minutes walk from the JR station/bus terminal, and close to the Otaru Canal and Asakusa Bridge. The shopping street is about a 10-minute walk away, making it convenient for trips to places like Mt. Tengu.
2. The soundproofing is excellent. We had a triple room with an extra bed, and there was enough space to open our three suitcases one at a time.
3. A pleasant surprise was the large public bath, which is open until late at night – a really thoughtful touch.
4. The breakfast offers both Japanese and Western options. The ingredients are fresh and delicious. The pudding, in particular, was incredibly rich and flavorful, even better than those sold at convenience stores – a rare find!
5. The hotel has Chinese-speaking staff, which was very helpful and friendly.
6. Otaru is definitely worth an overnight stay, and I would choose this hotel again next time."
"The hotel is a renovated old building with a great sense of history. The front desk service was warm, meticulous, and thoughtful. They offer complimentary red wine in the evenings, and breakfast is served in an English afternoon tea style, which is very charming. However, I only had breakfast there once during my two-night stay. On the other other morning, I opted for some salmon onigiri, Hokkaido desserts, and hot tea from 7-11, which was very satisfying. The hotel is conveniently located close to the Otaru Canal and the Music Box Museum."
"The guy at the counter at night was very friendly and, to my surprise, spoke excellent Chinese. This greatly reduced the fear of traveling alone and not being able to speak the language. The tatami room was very comfortable and easily slept six people. There was a large floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the Japanese-style garden. It was a truly immersive experience. I'd definitely visit again if I had the chance."

Outstanding
AAshley Wong889I love this room so much. The location is perfect, near the JR Station. The room is big enough for us to open two suitcases fully. One thing I very much like is the laundry pods, the smell is very fragrant!I wanna know about the brand of the laundry pods.
GGuest UserSpecial thanks to Richard and Ms. Zhou for their hospitality.
From the beginning, Mr. Li was renovating his own courtyard on the second floor. When he saw me, he asked me ”hello, is that you?”.
My luck started.
He also picked flowers for me, borrowed a charging cable, and prepared breakfast.
This morning, Ms. Zhou invited me into the house for coffee☕️. I drank more than one cup. It felt like home.
I felt very lucky.
Soon after I checked in yesterday afternoon, they drove by.
Took me to Otaru. I saved the time waiting for the bus. So I had plenty of time to visit Tengu👺 Mountain.
Mr. Li and Ms. Zhou kept introducing me to scenic spots and transportation precautions ⚠️
Thanks again.
Next time is when winter comes.
Now I have boarded the ship from Tomakomai to Oarai🛥️
XXiaosaxuanbeiThe B&B is very close to Minami-Otaru, and opposite is the steam clock, hello kitty 2025-07-20 | Published in Shanghai | Travel with family
The B&B is very close to Minami-Otaru, opposite is the steam clock, hello kitty, and there are also check-in spots such as the Kitaichi Whistle Museum and the Music Box Museum nearby. The room facilities are new, with dry and wet separation. We arranged four beds for three adults and one child. The boss and the administrator are also good people, worth recommending.
CclumsyEAWe were given another place called second house green with private bath and kitchen due to overbooking. However, the first floor was a bit and the shower wasn’t that good. Water was not hot enough even adjusted to 60 degrees and was rather weak.
It’s hard to find the house green as well and was only informed the access code after a while. But check out time was good. Beware of the snow as our car was buried in snow the next day.
AAnonymous UserFacilities: There are microwaves and refrigerators in the public area, but please note that the refrigerator is small and cannot hold large items.
Hygiene: Clean and tidy.
Environment: The small window in the room is surprising, and it feels like an oil painting when you look out.
The location is far from Otaru Station/Otaru Canal/Otaru South Station, etc. You need to take a bus to get there. There is a bus stop less than 1 minute away from the hotel. It is relatively close to Tengu Mountain and can be reached on foot. The hotel host provides pick-up and drop-off services to the above-mentioned places during the time period of 16:00-22:00.
FFangyaozhuandaqianThe sleeping area is quite small, basically just a bed with no space for belongings. However, the bathroom area is large and impeccably clean - absolutely fantastic! Safety is well-guaranteed with two locks. It's very quiet, and the common areas for dining and relaxing are all fully equipped.
KKAIHUNGKobe Hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of Minami-Otaru Station and major attractions. The environment is warm and the beds are comfortable, suitable for backpackers and independent travelers. The public space feels like home and allows you to communicate with travelers from all over the world. Although the facilities are a bit old, it is overall clean and tidy, and the CP value is good. It is a good choice for affordable accommodation in Otaru!
SSheila WZJThis hotel was amazing. Super clean and cozy. The room was so big and spacious. Can sleep up to 5 people. Just that the hotel has no elevator, only 2 floors. But still never disappoints me. Highly recommended!!!!!
GGuest UserI booked two nights, the price is less than 200 per night, and the Otaru Hotel during the Snow Festival is more than 800+, so I chose a warm youth hostel.
The person in charge is an old lady. You will find her humor and enthusiasm when you communicate with her. If there is no one at the front desk, you can ring the bell. You need to leave the key at the front desk when you check out.
The second floor can be connected to the bathhouse on the first floor (I didn’t go because it seems to be an independent business bathhouse, and my roommate likes to go there);
If you are assigned to a double room as shown in the picture, you are lucky because you will live very comfortably. My roommate is of the same country and the same sex, and we chatted like friends;
If you are assigned to a quadruple room, then you will experience a rich youth hostel life. The roommates are men and women from all over the world. It is easy to communicate in a narrow environment. Everyone is very quiet and you don’t have to worry about your sleep problem.
But there is indeed a smell that is not like 🦶 air for two days. I can’t tell the difference. There is a burning thing in the room (it seems to be an air purifier) that can solve this smell.
The interesting thing about this youth hostel is that it is like a blind box. You don’t know what you will encounter.
EEng YeowThis apartment offers a practical and comfortable stay, especially for those looking to explore Otaru on foot. We appreciated the basic utensils and cutlery provided, making it easy to prepare simple meals. The thoughtful inclusion of toothbrushes and toothpaste was a nice touch, and the microwave was handy for quick reheats.
Comfort is well-addressed with one air-conditioner and a heater, ensuring a pleasant temperature regardless of the weather. The washing machine was a huge convenience, and we had options for drying clothes either on the hanger stand inside the room or on the balcony.
The location is a major highlight, being within easy walking distance to both Otaru Canal and Sakaimachi Street. We also found it convenient to have a Lawson and various eateries nearby, though it's a good idea to check their opening hours as they can vary.
Important Considerations for Your Stay
While the location is excellent, it's important to note that the road leading to the building is steep. This could be particularly challenging if you're driving, and we would not advise driving during winter due to the road conditions.
For those with a car, there are two parking areas available. The closer one has three slots, while a slightly further option offers approximately 12 slots. Keep this in mind, especially if you prioritize a closer parking spot.
