Bibi-Khanym Mosque

Historical background:
-This mosque was built on the order of Timur, ca.
1399 to 1405. After Timur returned victoriously from his campaign in India, he decided to build a grand Qingqi Temple in his capital, Samarkand, to show the majesty and glory of the empire. Its name "Bibi Khanum" is the name of Timur's wife. Legend has it that Timur used this to commemorate his Chinese wife. However, the "China" here does not refer to the dynasty, but the east of Timur's empire, which is actually the Mongolian region. Timur's wife is a Turkic Mongolian and the princess of the Eastern Chagatai Khanate.

Ulugh Beg Observatory

It is an arc of 1/6 circle, engraved on a huge marble slab, with each degree interval of 70 cm, and the curvature is extremely precise. It is installed in an inclined tunnel 11 meters deep and 2 meters wide from the ground. The length of a year measured by Ulugh Beg here is very close to the result of modern scientific calculations. The Ulugh Beg Observatory Museum exhibits the "New Astronomical Table" compiled by the Ulugh Beg Observatory and some relics. The text outlines the basic theories of astronomy at that time and the positions of 1018 stars. This is the most accurate record of measuring the positions of stars since ancient Greece, reaching the highest level before the 16th century.
