have been relocated to this hotel and the hotel is far from being good. A very aged hotel, smelly, rooms very old with dust, we found many spiders, one big in the bathroom and another already inside of our luggage.

Hotel Astoria embodies 1920 chic French decor. Much of that fashion remains in tact, but in fairness, also reflects its age. The hotel's location right on the river provides easy access to most of Coimbra. However, the city is essentialy a giant hill, so a 10 mins walk along a steep slope may be a significant inconvenience to many. The staff is extremly friendly and works hard to provide a comfortable stay. There is no swimming pool and guests may want to bring some additional amendities (body lotion). Those may have been available, I never bother asking. Wifi is only available in public areas. Easy to check emails but not great for working in the room. Will definitely consider another stay if the price is competitive to other hotels.

It is a very historical hotel with a comfortable reading space and lobby. Especially the antique elevator in the hotel is very beautiful. There are sliding doors outside the elevator and seats inside, which are very shiny.

Nice and central location on the river side within walking distance to the train station, public transportation, historic monuments, town centre and lots of coffees, bars and restaurants. The building is a trip to a bygone era, an Art Nouveau, Art Decó style, that has seen better days but, nevertheless, retains all the character, charm and grace of an old lady. Our room had a small balcony overlooking the Mondego River with wonderful views, it was spacious, and had a comfortable bed. Excellent buffet breakfast served in a grand dining room. Very friendly staff. We'll undoubtedly come back!

The hotel is located very close to the Coimbra A railway station, so when traveling by public transport there is no problem in reaching the hotel.
The hotel is located on the edge of the old town with its most important attractions, so getting to them is not the slightest problem. There are also various shops and restaurants nearby. The location of the hotel is therefore perfect!
Even though our room's window faced a busy street, there were no noises that could disturb our sleep after an intensive sightseeing tour.
The room we occupied was large, well-decorated, with furniture that was over a hundred years old! but they were in perfect condition! And above all, the room and all common areas were incredibly clean and the beds were very comfortable!
The hotel with its "period" interior is a great choice for antique lovers! Not only the room, but also all the common areas (including the elevator!) made a very positive impression on us - as lovers of vintage and antiques :-)
We really enjoyed the breakfast: everything was fresh and very tasty!
And finally, a big plus for the hotel staff! The ladies at the reception were great!!!!!!!! The service in the restaurant during breakfast and the cleaning staff also deserve great praise :-)
So, from our experience, I RECOMMEND Hotel Astoria :-)
