We had a lovely stay for five nights here. It feels like a guesthouse-art gallery-retreat centre, and my German wasn't good enough to be able to work out exactly what it was. no matter, it is well situated on the banks of the Rhine, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were tasty. there is a small menagerie of birds, rabbits, guinea-pigs and a cockatoo called Picasso (who might even greet you with a ”hello” if you give him a rosebud) in the central courtyard. It certainly wouldn't;t be to everyone's taste, but if you like something a bit different, or are open to new experiences, then give it a shot. it is about 25 minutes walk from Hitdorf See, and there are several good places to eat within walking distance.

I was born in Leverkusen and always stay at the Hotel Kristal when I'm visiting family at home. The selection and the food in the Kristal are very good, the service really courteous. The rooms are modernly furnished and the bathroom is very chic. It's always clean and the beds are super comfy! The next morning we were all able to have breakfast together, even though my family didn't sleep in the hotel. I'd love to come back, I'm looking forward to summer with the outdoor area!

Hotel facilities are average, after all, it is a small hotel, the room is not very soundproof, but the price is not high, you get what you pay for.

Three night stay at this hotel for business meetings in the area. Very clean and neat lobby and room. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful and spoke english perfectly. I was not a fan of the marshmallow pillows. Room is pure basic and was adequate. Good hot water supply. I did not try the breakfast so can't comment on that. Biggest drawback was the lack of proximity to any incidental ammenaties or food establishments. There are no convenience stores near by (2-3 kilometers walking distance to the nearest one) and none in the hotel (small refrigerator in the hotel lobby where you can buy limited soft drinks and snacks at the front desk). The hotel would do well to establish a gift shop/convenience store to service thier patrons due to the lack of availability of such in the area. It would have been nice to acquire a cup of coffee any time of day but especially in the morning when a full cost breakfast was the only way to acquire this. Overall though, a pleasant stay with pleasant staff.

This is not an ideal hotel at all. I would not give it anymore than a poor rating. The outer front of the hotel is awful and actually looks like it's closed. Very uninviting! On walking in, I was ”met” (not greeted) by a female member of staff who was OK (she did offer some conversation).... but not the most welcoming of people. I was kept waiting initially while she fetched someone else. In the meantime, I filled in some forms and a rather grumpy and disheveled looking person arrived. He mentioned I had to pay a fee for something but it wasn''t really clear what it was for. I reluctantly paid as it was only 4 euros and I didn't really understand German - had it been anymore, I would might have been more inclined to argue. The room (I was in 107) was frankly reminiscent of something from the Bates Motel. Very old furniture. The room was hot (I had to open the window) and although there was a TV, adequate WIFI, cleans towels etc - the standard was just frankly horrendous. I saw a pube on the wall in the bathroom! For this next part (I take partial responsibility as I WAS warned) but after 10 there is no reception which means you have to take your two keys with you. Now I stupidly assumed it was because the front door would be locked after 10. The real reason is because the hotel room door itself locks behind you. I walked out of the hotel room as I went to see if I could find someone to lend me a fan and the door locked behind me. Without anyone in reception, I was stranded late at night in the corridor. I had to physically climb out of the window and LUCKILY I had left my own open due to the hot weather.... otherwise I don't know what I would have done. I did NOT have the breakfast. It was included in the price but frankly everything seemed so sub-standard that I didn't want to risk it. Honestly, I know you get what you pay for but this wasn't even worth that and I paid approximately £50.

Very close to the central train station. I arrived early and wanted to store my luggage. I was not yet in time to check in, but I was given a room with a view of the cathedral. I was so lucky. The guys and girls at the front desk spoke good English and were helpful. The room was clean and very comfortable. Free sparkling water was provided, which is rare in European hotels. I was impressed by the trip to Cologne and it is worth staying.

The hotel is quite central in Cologne. It also has probably given the possibility to breakfast directly in the hotel the reservation. However, already at the arrival, this was shown at the reception before and after me, there were probably noise differences between the bookings of the arrival guests and the understanding that only the German-speaking lady had at the reception. My colleague has clearly ordered breakfast with, but he had to call it loudly next morning. I myself, I'm very much in hotels on the way I've experienced extremely rarely that staff always strongly before yesterday each other disputes about courses that should be practiced. My room itself was awaiting and probably had the flair of the 1980s. Electric cable simply sticked to the wall, hoping that they would not solve again. In general, I would not book this hotel anymore. What the reason staff and guests are constantly crying negative.

Outstanding
FfirstbignoseThe best hotel in Germany. The western restaurant on the second floor is especially amazing. You need to make reservations in advance at night. The details of the service are great. The hotel is the official designated accommodation hotel for the European Cup. I was lucky enough to see the England and Belgium players.
GGuest UserLoved my stay at this hotel - Not super luxury, but perfect for a short stay. Excellent rooms, wifi and shower) all you need) and the boxed breakfast was exceeding expectations of everyone in our group. Would definitely recommend On a sidenote, only went to the roof Terras at night, but brilliant views
GGuest UserWe had to check in very late (about 02:30), but that was not a problem at all. The service was very friendly and helpful. We had booked a room for 3 people over Booking.com that was unfortunately no longer available on site. We were fully unproblematic and without additional costs ”distributed” to two Comfort double rooms and received another drink from the house bar for free as an excuse. The rooms themselves are very well equipped and comfortable. The included breakfast was the “hammer” and very rich and varied. Of us absolutely recommended. A parking house is right next to and has not cost us anything.
GGuest UserThe hotel is in a great location, right by the central station and in easy walking distance from many of the attractions around Köln. The front desk staff were very friendly and made check in a quick and easy process. The room smelt strongly of stale cigarettes when I checked in, even though it was marked a nonsmoking room. One of the duvets on the bed was dirty with caked on smudges that obviously hadn't been laundered since the previous guest. Fortunately the bed has two duvets so I could use the second one which was clean. Check out was listed as 12pm, but on the day of checkout a cleaner entered my room before 9am and rudely told me to leave immediately. I tried speaking to her in German and English to tell her I still had hours available in the room and she wouldn't respond so I felt forced to pack up and leave while she waited. This is a budget friendly hotel in a good location, and none of these issues are dealbreakers on their own. I probably wouldn't return to stay because the experience combined was quite negative.
AAnonymous UserI enjoyed staying in Hilton . Nice view and good location. The staff was very kind and helpful. If I have a chance to go back to Cologne again , I would stay in Hilton again.
GGuest UserJust an absolute great experience staying there easy to find from central station. The staff are very welcome in. Everything we requested before we arrived. Was there just the overall great day and a great great location. Definitely want to stay there again. Would recommend this to anybody.
Jjerry=chenI saw that there is a Wyndham five-star hotel in Beijing before, so I thought it was good and booked it. The location is really good, just next to Cologne Station Square, just across the road. The service of the front desk girl is also very good and very enthusiastic. The room is pitifully small, and the bed is almost impossible to turn over. The hotel has been decorated for a long time, and the hygiene is average but not dirty. It may be because of the old facilities. The elevator is very small, and the elevator can only accommodate one person with a slightly larger suitcase. The hotel is next to the Cologne Cathedral, and next to the commercial area, which is convenient for shopping and dining. I didn't pay attention to not choosing breakfast when booking the room, so I bought it separately later. The breakfast category is okay.
GGuest UserThis was my first time staying at a hostel as I wanted a bit of traveller experience and most importantly keep my trip to Cologne cheap and affordable for three days. I read tons of reviews before I opted to stay at a&o and I was convinced this was ideal place in terms of location, affordability and also getting the best experience as a traveller. On my arrival, I was greeted with a warm welcome by there friendly staff at reception, I quickly observed what they had to offer and in honesty not much, a small lounge area with a small bar but they did have a pool table...I didn't mind too much as I knew I would be out most of the day. I was told I be staying in a 6 bed room (mixed) which I was ok with as I wanted to meet people, I had to pay around 5 Euros for sheets and a towel as this is not included to my surprise. There was no locker but a secure cage under the bed and If I wanted to securely lock it I would had to pay a refundable 20 Euro deposit to get a padlock from reception. The room was ok, it was clean and had good lighting but space was limited. There was separate toilet and shower room which I felt was convenient and was kept in a good condition. During the night, I didn't really get the best of sleep as you can hear a lot of people talking and walking up and down the hall way. Also, it's a 24hr check in so therefore anyone could come stay in the room at anytime which sometime kept me restless. It's also worth mentioning, this hostel accommodates pretty much everyone, from couples, big groups, school trips and family which during my stay I saw plenty of. The hostel is in a good location, 10-20 mins walk and you will find yourself surrounded by restaurants, bars, shops and in the central part of Cologne. My overall thoughts of staying at a&o is, it's a good place, friendly staff and pretty much everything at your doorstep. Not the best of sleeps I've had and knowing anyone could come in at any time was not ideal. I didn't always feel that my personal stuff was safe and secured but that's just me and I was a bit let down with the lack of facilities the hostel had to offer. I defiantly would recommend staying there if you come in a group but if alone no more than one night. Would I stay there again or at any hostel for that matter...probably not! If you're a hotel person like me then I would suggest to keep it like that.
JjazpopsThe hotel is an easy walk (just a few minutes) from the railway station. It is about two minutes walk to the cathedral which you can see (and hear) from the hotel: the bells chime quite loudly at about 08:00 am and other times. Rooms are a decent size and the beds are very comfortable. It is clean and in the room there is a safe, tv, bathroom with a shower (that oddly has no shower curtain or screen - the floor gets quite wet). Breakfast is good and includes the normal range of hot and cold foods from croissants, toast, bacon, egg, sausage, buns, cereals, hams, salamis, cheeses, coffee, tea, hot water and some really very nice fruit juices (some of the nicest I have tasted in a hotel). The staff in the dining area were really pleasant and friendly. The reception staff were a little more varied but polite and efficient enough. Outside the hotel doesn't look that much but it is generally pleasant and a great base inside. Next door are some convenience store types of shops and a kebab house that I tried and it was exactly the same as back home. McDonalds is just across the road, if that is your thing. We walked to all of the Christmas markets (where we did most of our eating) and around the city centre and down to the Rhine. All are in easy walking distance. There is a bag room where you can leave your bags upon checkout and come back for them later. The security of that was a little lax as people just walked in from the street and took their bags. I went to the reception and told them I was taking mine and the lady looked as if to say, ”ok fine.” No checks. There is also little checking of people walking in from the street and just going upstairs but the doors on the rooms were pretty secure. The lighting is not great in the room and the lights around the hotel are seemingly hanging from their connections. Overall it was a great base from which to explore the city and get to and from. good night's sleep - despite the bells and a good breakfast. I would stay again for a short break in the city.
GGuest UserThe hotel emailed us at short notice to change where we were staying but then decided not to reply to any of our emails back to them. Because of this we arrived at the rearranged hotel completely confused about how long we were supposed to be staying there for. The hotel was particularly unwelcoming and it took them a while to work out that we were in fact staying there. The room was in a poor condition, with stains all over the curtains, the pillows were uncomfortable and lumpy and no extra pillows were provided (until we asked reception to provide more). There were two very small single duvets provided for the bed and the hotel was unable to provide a double duvet when asked. The hairdryer did not work and the hotel did not replace this despite us asking. The shower also did not drain so it filled up when it was used. Further to this considering it is December we needed the radiators on, however the radiators were extremely noisy and kept us awake all night. This hotel was further away from the landmarks that we had planned our trip around which incurred extra costs. The hotel has neglected to reply to any of our emails (before or after our trip), I would not book with them again.
