Parador de Cordoba la Arruzafa

Fancy a tea or coffee when you wake up? You can't have one: No tea or coffee-making facilities in your room. A swim before breakfast in the lovely on-site outdoor pool? You can't have one. The pool doesn't open until 1130. Something to eat? The buffet breakfast spread was plentiful and varied, but staff couldn't keep up with replenishment. At supper in the evening the classic ”rice, pork, chicken and seasonal mushroom” wasn't to my taste. Sweet and tomato-ey, and the mushroom element was elusive. Perhaps it's meant to be like that. My companion was happy with his pork tenderloin on a bed of potato. Convenience dictated that we eat there a second time, and on that occasion my steak and his hake were excellent. There was, though, a huge amount of nonsense about our choice of wine, exactly the same Rioja Crianza, listed as the house red, as we'd had two nights earlier. Never before in my life have I known a server be so difficult, or one in an international hotel be prepared to speak neither English nor French. Be ready to be assertive, or perhaps just eat elsewhere! The room was good even if a little bit tired: spacious, clean, excellent bathroom, toiletries and towelage, huge well-linened bed. Gloomy, with only mood-lighting, so if you have senior eyes and need to read print or lace your shoes, use the bathroom! The public areas are pleasant and airy, the terraces and view delightful. Although it's in a very fine location, this particular parador is not itself one of the characterful heritage buildings for which the group is so well-known. Reception staff are knowledgeable and helpful, particularly in booking taxis. If you intend to use this hotel do check carefully meal and pool timetables. There IS an indoor pool and fitness centre available to guests, apparently year-round, but you have to book and then walk 300m offsite. And the outdoor pool is blissful: Above all, there is no piped music. Our three-night stay was intended to offer some relaxation and refreshment between sightseeing trips, but it didn't work entirely well for me. I had never stayed in a parador before and trusted the brand's reputation for excellence in all aspects of hospitality. Disappointing.

It is in a quiet area away from the centre, but it is quickly reached in public transport. The rooms were very comfortable and the rooms were very comfortable and the rooms were very comfortable.

For a 4 star hotel this was excellent value for money. Arriving by train we only had a 10 minute walk to get there, yet only 10 minutes walk from the hotel to cafes and shops, Perhaps 25 minutes from the historic centre so no local transport was needed. The room was spacious and quiet, in spite of being by a busy road. The bathroom was a decent size too. The only issue was a rather high and wide shelving to climb into the bath/shower, which could be difficult for a small or unsteady person. On the roof was a good sized and clean pool with plenty of shade. Nice to have something bigger than the postage stamp sized ones we've come across before, so a pleasant surprise. Good choices for breakfast although cafes minutes away were better value for money. The acid test- would we stay there again? Yes, definitely.

We asked for a quiet room and were. happy with one at the back of the hotel. Very comfortable spacious beds and good over-bath shower. Reasonable buffet choice at breakfast though the dining room can get very busy at times with tour groups. Freshly squeezed orange juice - delicious! Internet reception in the rooms is intermittent and not great and the rooms can get quite hot. We pulled the blackout curtains after the room had been made up for the day and that helped as did opening the windows at night. There’s a notice saying they maintain the rooms between 19C in winter and 27C in summer. 27C seems rather warm for comfortably sleeping. However the staff are very helpful and the location ideal, so all in all, a good choice, if you book knowing these caveats.

Eurostars was a nice surprise for us. Easily reached by taxi and right beside the beautiful Mezquita, the hotel had everything we needed for a good stay in Córdoba. The room size was good, many pillows and very clean. The meals are served in a big room and a beautiful patio, where you can enjoy some fresh air. The breakfast buffet was a highlight: many options, with delicious pastries freshly prepared. Would definitely come back!

These tourist apartments are in a quiet part of the historic district, an easy 10 minute stroll to the Mezquita and the Jewish Quarter, with several restaurants and cafes nearby, but blissfully away from the crowds and noise. Our apartment (7) was very clean and comfortable, on the top level of the building. Hotel pictures are accurate — there is a bedroom and a separate sitting area with kitchenette, sofa, dining table and kitchen island with chairs. You can see the Mezquita bell tower from the sitting area windows. The air conditioning worked perfectly, bed was quite comfortable, and water pressure/temperature in the shower were good. The owners have thoughtfully included many things for the comfort of their guests, including coffee and tea, and detergent pods for the dishwasher and washing machine. There is also a supermarket just around the corner, which is very convenient. If you arrive by car, it is not hard to navigate to the hotel, and the hotel staff will accompany you to a nearby private garage to park. We saw in the brochure in our room that you can arrange in advance to have breakfast delivered to your room in the morning, and can also arrange to have some groceries brought in — we did not use those services but they seem like a nice option. All in all, this is a lovely set up for a couple to enjoy a long weekend or more in Cordoba. Our only two comments, which did not affect our enjoyment of our stay at all, were: (1) we had requested and confirmed in writing a different room (apartment 6), but were told when we arrived that it had been given to someone else. Room 7, however, was of at least comparable quality and quite nice. (2) it might be made a bit more clear that the rooms have washing machines that will wash clothes, but not a clothes dryer — you dry clothes on a laundry rack that is provided. Again, this was totally fine, but would have been helpful to have a bit clearer as we spent a bit too much time trying to figure out whether the washer machine had a drying function, and it can be important to a guest to know how much time to allow for clothes to air dry. Overall, we very much enjoyed our stay and would gladly recommend it to others.
