Friendly and helpful staff. Mild stains found on couch’s fabric. Hot/cold water unsteady.

Really nice stay with family. Good facilities, pools and outdoors. Food and drinks really good and a lot of variety. Staff excellent, really nice and available. The rooms starts showing need for modernisation.

The bathroom facilities are simple, and the deluxe double room has no door. It is inconvenient to dry clothes on the balcony, and the room is too small. The environment and service are good, three meals a day are all inclusive and taste good, and the parking is convenient.

The hotel is located in a very good location. The staff worked perfectly. Overall the approach of the hotel was great. The food here was varied. Desserts were just a tad sweet, which was fine with us. A large selection of massages that came in handy. I recommend everyone to go here.

I have to say that I was apprehensive to come stay at the hotel for our trip having read some of the reviews on here however my partner and I have had an amazing holiday & still a couple of days left. The hotel is in a great location. All of the staff without exception have been friendly & super helpful . Nice little touches of having piano /guitar playing live during breakfast. Even meeting Jimmy the hawk who I’d been told about by a friend who stayed here a few years ago. There’s a great variety of food for dinner & all tasty. The hotel is clean & the rooms decent sizes. I had a massage from Elizabeth at the spa, which was very good. The evening entertainment has been a nice way to end an evening with some live music with a view of the sun setting I’d have no problem recommending this hotel to friends & have done so already. I’m hoping to be able to come again to stay after this trip. Madeiras been amazing

The staff is excellent and very friendly, caring . Nice and pleasant place. If you look for a good relaxing place this is the one. You can have nice food and drinks all day long , we have a really great time. Definitely looking forward to being back.

We came back after being here 7 years earlier. Still the best hotel we've stayed at. All the staff were very attentive and engaging. Food was great, plenty of choice and hubby got plenty of fish and seafood! Only downside was the botanic experience as there was not a choice of food. Stated 3 restaurant experiences but only 2 available, Italian was very nice. It was great to have all the entertainment outside, some amazing acts. Plenty of loungers, no matter what time of day. Big shout out to Beatriz, best barmaid ever!!

Just returned after a week with family. Mixed reviews. Hotel lovely but a little dated, beautiful grounds, staff on reception welcoming and efficient.. food was plenty but not a great variety. The hotel is a long way from harbour/ town centre and other amenities but there us a courtesy bus and taxis are cheap. However didn’t know this hotel caters for large groups. Unfortunately we chose the wrong time to go as there was a group of about 20 noisy guests who had no respect for anyone else and would party until mid nite ( so no early nites). We paid hotel €17 each to go on a firework trip which was a rip off as display was at harbour and bus dropped us of at a bus station in town and we all had to find our way down to event. A direct taxi would have been €10 each way. There was no welcome drink or reserved space. Also we had a late flight and there are no courtesy rooms for showering, you had to use showers in pool area which were disgusting and no privacy. Based on the above I would not return to this hotel. Funchal is beautiful place, we went on cable car to Palace and botanical gardens also got tour bus around island. Plenty to do and see but very hilly.

Disappointing stay, we paid extra for a deluxe sea view & ended up in a room that was very dated, it wasn't until day three when we gave feedback that we were offered another room, why does this happen in the first place, we have stayed in many 5* hotels and this isn't one of them, staff friendly, food average, lots of noisy children running up & down corridors, up & down in the lifts, hotel in desperate need of updating

Lovely hotel, welcoming team on reception with porters happy to help with luggage. Offered a Maderia wine on arrival. Large deluxe sea view room 611, amazing view and plenty of space. Food is delicious with lots of fresh fruit and the staff in the restaurant are very efficient and friendly. Large swimming pool with daily activities and swim up bar, all beautifully maintained along with gardens. Short walk and lift down to pebble beach and promenade, ideal for stroll. A free shuttle bus daily into Funchal to visit local attractions.

This is not a 5star hotel. The beds are hard, the air con noisy. We stayed 10 days and had only 2 hot meals, all others were lukewarm or cold. The salad however was very good. On our last day we had raw burgers which I pointed out and it was replaced with another raw burger. If you asked reception for more milk for the room it said in their info that there would be a charge for it. Take a glass or mug of milk from the restaurant to your room and keep in the fridge. Evening entertainment was a DJ or singer, one of which we left because she was so bad. The hotel bus shuttle was good and was on time. Madeira and its people are lovely but we, and all other people we spoke to, would not go back to this hotel.

The Pestana Royal is by no means a 5*Hotel it's a 3 at best. The rooms could host a Poirot movie they are so tired. Well the whole Hotel could to be honest. Our room had no pattern on the carpet in places and the tiles in the bathroom were cracked. The shower was good and powerful. The girl that cleaned our room on the 10th floor worked really hard. The room was spotless. They have a lot of pigeons and kestrels in the grounds so the Hotel employs a Harris Hawk and handler. Not good when you are eating lunch in the garden and it catches a pigeon above you. The food wasn't wonderful. Everything was in a sauce or gravy. At lunch there were cooked meats to go with the salads but in the evening just cheese. We didn't go hungry. The Italian restaurant was really good we enjoyed that. The pool area wasn't that clean. The sun beds were dirty and most were broken. Very uncomfortable to lie on. The pool was cleaned at 10am while people wanted to use it. The staff were all lovely and very helpful. It was our anniversary and there was Sparkling wine and strawberry tarts in our room one day. A lovely touch. This Hotel has the potential to be great with a bit of TLC and investment. As I say the staff in every department were lovely.

Stayed here early May, lovely hotel very clean champagne and cake brought to room on my special birthday. Lovely pool, lovely food, friendly staff especially bar staff especially young girl on bar at night ( sorry I've forgotten her name) beautiful island will be back

The part of the hotel we stayed in was in need and of some tlc especially the bathroom. The food was every hit and miss and geared up more for the French who there were a lot of. Choices got less as the time me went through b. The best part was the staff who were all very nice.
