Excellent
We stayed in Sepilok Rainforest Resort for a couple of nights. The place is really beautiful and relaxing, surrounded by beautiful nature. The apartment was really quite and clean. The Resort local guide for visiting the Orang Utan Center was really prepared and kind. But best of all, was the Sepilok Staff: my son forgot his glasses on the taxi to the airport, and they managed to deliver a safe package on our next destination in Malaysia! Always keeping in contact and informing us about the parcel location! We really appreciate that!
I stayed here for four nights and I could easily have stayed longer. This place feels like a piece of heaven. I had a beautiful simple cabin with a stunning view. Every night I could hear animals crawling and scrambling on the roof. It was really a unique experience! The staff were very friendly and helpful. Especially Sila. The restaurant had some nice food for a decent price and breakfast was good. Not a lot, but sufficient. There was always coffee and tea for free and they kept my snacks for free in their fridge during my stay so the animals could not smell it in my cabin. Their shuttle service was very good. It was easy to communicate with the driver if I was going to need his service when I was out exploring. And If I wanted to go elsewhere I was always told the price beforehand. I went on almost all of their excursions and can recommend all of them. If you’re looking for a relaxing cabin in the middle of nature this is the perfect place. I cannot recommend it enough.
GGuest UserFirst the good. Location is excellent, AC and Wifi worked great, very clean. Bed comfortable, and they even provide a true top sheet, something lacking not only in most places in Malaysia but most everywhere in Europe even at 5 star hotels. Grounds are lovely with only the sounds of the forest so very quiet. The soso, staff friendliness and brakfast. Its not restocked so by 830 its slim pickins. Nothing to get excited about even at open. But my biggest complaint is the fact that under facilities its lists ”shared kitchen” so we bought groceries as we like self catering. After check in, when I asked where to find the shared kitchen, which is pictured on the listing on agoda, she asked which room we were in. When I said the Hornbill lodge, she said only 1 building has a shared kitchen and its for guests of ONLY that building. This is a paradigm of fraudulent inducement, and I deduct two stars for that. There is a sink and fridge and a counter in Hornbill, in other words they have the place for the promised shared kitchen, and adding a hotplate and a couple pans would hardly cost them much, but they've chosen instead to not deliver what they promise.
GGuest UserThe hostel is basic and there's no two ways about it. Yes it's cheap, so cheap that my friends and I got a private room each. But I feel that the hostel could charge more and then update the decor and facilities and also offer more of a substantial and welcoming breakfast than just a pot of jam and a loaf of bread. However, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The location is also great. In central Sandakan and it felt very secure. The hostel does what it needs to do if you need a cheap place to stay.
