Excellent
GGuest UserMy family and I truly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Retama. The staff were very helpful and friendly, the breakfast was amazing and they did everything to make our stay wonderful including arranging for a tour guide who was fantastic. The location and accomodations were great--it is at the top of a hill away from the crowds. We loved it and will be back!
I don't know if I was lucky, but my room was on the river and my ”background noise” was the waterfall: quite relaxing! Also because the structure is a little out of the center (how can you be outside in a town that can be explored in 7 minutes...) It's not that I spent who knows how much time in the structure, but I must say that I liked it a lot , with all his mystically themed paintings, in fact. Breakfast wasn't anything special, but still good, served in a room on the second floor overlooking the forest to the right of the structure. However, there were some flaws. I arrive and the socket near the bed doesn't work (promptly resolved, but it was better not to have had to witness the repair, or not?). In the bathroom there were two bars of soap, and that's it... now, using a single-dose shampoo won't make you a failure and will ”make a scene”! Better than having to scrub your scalp with a bar of soap! For the rest, I had a very good time and if I were to return to Aguas Calientes, I would go back immediately.
I was here for only a night so I can't really give a proper feedback. It really depends from the people you will find in the dorm, they were quiet annoying leaving lights on and the door open. But the hostel itself ha a nice young vibe, the staff is nice especially at breakfast. There is a common area you can use for working too, a breakfast area and they organize every day different activities. Nice terrace at the top with a nice view. My room was small but ok, with a small separate toilet and shower in it but unfortunately dirty and with wet floor. The window view was on the internal patio/reception so quiet noise too. There are lockers for your small bag and your personal stuff, don't forget the lock. Bed was nice and comfy, with light and socket. Perfect location, at the top of the main street, ofc quiet expensive in general but normal to be in Aguas Calientes. Breakfast was good and served at 4 or 4.30am so perfect for those that needs to hike or get the bus to Machu Picchu. Simple with scrambled eggs, juice, coffee and tea.
GGuest UserI have stayed in a shared female dorm for two nights for my Machu Picchu trip. The room was clean and the bed comfy. It was a little loud due to the train passing by the windows in the mornings, but I actually didn’t mind. The train is the main thing that you hear in the whole village anyway. A simple but delicious breakfast was included. Some people who left early in the morning were able to get their breakfast packed with them. The owners (or people working there) were friendly locals happy to give advice. Upstairs, there was an open terrace with snooker table and board games.
