Check-in? Smooth as butter. Room? Cleaner than most 5-star hotels I’ve seen so far. Outside terrace? It’s literally Bali combined with Zanzibar. Staff? Friendliest people I’ve probably ever met. Food? The chef should be praised 24/7. This is just a summary of everything that should interest you. We arrived at Coral Rock at around 9am, knowing that check-in is usually at 2pm. We were greeted at the reception by a lady that informed us that the former guests will be leaving and as soon as the room is properly cleaned, we can go in. We left our luggage at the reception and proceeded to relax in the restaurant area while we waited. We had coffees, fruit platters and fresh juices and were entertained by Jerry, a staff member of Coral Rock. We had a very pleasant conversation, he had a wonderful smile and just made time pass easier. After what seemed to only be 5 minutes (but was actually 3 hours), we were informed by Ali (another staff member with whom we completely fell in love) that the room is ready. We proceeded to go to the reception to get the luggage - gasp - which was gone. Instead, the bags were waiting for us in a cool AC’d room, with a big bed full of flowers and fresh water bottles. To die for! This is just our first story with Coral Rock. The following days were amazing as well. Each day we dropped our key off at the reception so housekeeping can occur, which was done very seamlessly. The staff members (especially Ali and Jerry) always made sure to ask us if we need anything and if everything is to our liking. Now, the food… The food! We ate the greatest octopus and calamari ever! We also had a Swahili style seafood coconut curry, which was absolutely (again) to die for. Now, I’ve seen some bad reviews of the tuna tartaki (basically tuna steak), with people saying that it would always be way too dry and cooked extremely well done, which of course is not ideal with this dish; I decided to venture and try it out to see for myself. Needless to say, the reviews were either outdated or simply written by people that have nothing to do whatsoever with food, because it was cooked to perfection. Perfectly medium-rare in the center and crusted with toasted sesame seeds? It was absolutely mesmerizing how perfect that dish was made. I absolutely adored every single part of this experience. Other great dishes include the ramen (all variations of it, as we ate the beef, seafood and chicken ramen), the grilled veggies & calamari salad, the pineapple tart, the curries, and the list could go on and on and on. I was pleased to see the chef and his (cutest toddler ever) daughter, and I would congratulate him all day everyday if I could. We even got to enjoy a stunning floating breakfast all accustomed for by Ali! I can’t describe this place enough. I had high expectations, but Coral Rock exceeded them and then some! Please don’t base your decisions on old, outdated reviews; you might miss out on the greatest experience ever. Note that I’m writing this wit

Absolutely loved our stay at Kwanza, my mom and I had the best time. We were greeted by Caroline who always had a smile. Lucky was so jolly and helpful with our bags. Ahamed was always ready to assist with any and everything. The rooms were spacious and clean though there was a day where housekeeping forgot to come and spray the mosquito repellent. We had the best spa day and would highly recommend the full package. The food was exceptional and plentiful, we got the all inclusive package so we had all meals served and would recommend that as the resort is located far from other places. The bar service though needs improving as they were slow because there was only one server per bar but the cocktails were great!! I had forgotten my phone at one of the bathrooms and it was returned to me before I even noticed so the place is very safe.

Told we were being upgraded on arrival only to be put in one of the worst rooms ever experienced. No hot water until day 2, broken vanity desk lamp shade held together with masking tape, filthy chair. After night 2 they changed our room which was fine. However, while the staff are extremely pleasant and polite they are clearly not trained so restaurant service was appalling on several levels. Aside from duty manager Megan who was fantastic and worked hard to resolve the issues, she had no proper competent support and the so called hotel manager seemed happy to leave it to her to sort out. It is for the most part a beautiful property but poor standards of service and maintenance lets it down badly.

Spent three nights at Tulia post-safari with a friend and as others have said, our experience was perfection. The setting, the beautiful gardens, the ocean, the meals, the nightly entertainment, the huge spotless rooms with AC, the all-inclusive drinks, it was all just what we needed. But what makes Tulia special is the wonderful staff who will be your friends from the moment you check in. It must be 6 to 1 staff/guest ratio and most of them somehow know your name (and your favorite drink) by the first night. It's a really special and fun vibe and if you only want to relax they understand this too and you will have plenty of privacy. They even arranged an outdoor screening of Lion King when we mentioned that this movie is how we know ”hakuna matata!” We almost cried when we left and had we not already paid for our next resort across the island, we would have cancelled it and stayed longer at Tulia! Special shoutout to Kirui and Peter who watched over us the whole stay and made sure we were happy from the moment we checked in; to Jonas at reception; to our favorite bartenders Moses at the beach bar and Felix, Emmanuel and Abdul at the main bar; to Lillian for the best massage ever, and to Lucas, our favorite Maasai guard who always had a smile on his face and loves to dance. We hope to return as soon as possible!

The front desk provided a room that was already occupied. When we checked in at 23:00 late at night and opened the door, a middle-aged man was already sleeping on the bed. The man was frightened and very angry. Similarly, we were also very frightened and felt very embarrassed. For such a misunderstanding, the front desk only apologized to the man, but did not apologize to us.
After changing rooms, our twin bed room was changed to a double bed room. The hotel did not explain this. Because it was late at night, we gave up changing beds and rested.
There was a musty smell in the room, and a bottle of mineral water was empty, and it was not cleaned. There were many flies flying around in the restaurant during breakfast.
I am very dissatisfied with this accommodation experience.

I have been to Hotel Verde several times, twice of which were business related. Unfortunately this time I was quite disappointed with the overall experience. While it wasn’t all bad, there is much more to be expected from such an establishment and I hope the management will take necessary actions to make this place wonderful again. Improvements needed: 1. Maintenance: The hotel seems to be suffering from poor maintenance. My bathroom ceiling had cracks, one of the wardrobe lights in the middle was broken/missing, the iron brought in to my room on request was broken and could not regulate heat therefore almost burning my shirt, the security hook on the iron made it difficult to take advantage of the iron cords length making it almost impossible to iron, the hangers in the wardrobe had a design fault such that you cannot remove them like other hotels to easily hang clothes like suits etc., the toilet left an odor in the whole bathroom after each flush despite closing the lid and the door. These are a few items I noted. 2. Staff Training: While the staff had an overall nice demeanor and very welcoming, they require some more training on providing an above and beyond experience to guests for a hotel of this caliber. A housekeeper promised to restock towels in my room in a short while which ended up being close to an hour and by then I had already used the in room bathrobe as an alternative to not miss an appointment I had. That was sloppy. The reception staff did not have a proper system of tracking what they held for guests especially during a time when multiple high level events are happening at the hotel causing a lot of anguish and confusion. items that were needed by noon 🕛 for a function were only later retrieved by 10pm resulting in a loss of productivity that those items were expected to have. Everyone seemed lost. 3. Slow WiFi: Not sure if it was just my room but the internet speed was on the slower side. These experiences made the stay this time a 2/5 for me. Hope the hotel will improve in the future.

I had changed my plans to experience Stone Town at the end of my trip. I had chosen to stay at Verde Hotel but, whilst there, had a few regrets that I had not chosen a hotel right in Stone Town. As it happened, my flight ended up being cancelled and I had to spend an unexpected additional night in Stone Town so decided to book the Serena which I was quite excited about. It looked a lot more traditional than the Verde and more ‘quintessential Zanzibar’. First of all, they charge $40 for an airport transfer. Total rip off. Be aware of this. The Verde charged $25 and it’s much further away. Secondly, the rooms are very disappointing for the price you pay. Quite cramped and dark. I asked if I could change rooms as mine was the first on the corridor with no view at all. They couldn’t. Some of the staff on reception were more friendly than others but, overall, the reception service was poor. That said, Amina and ‘Big Joe’ were both lovely and very helpful. The pool area was nice and I enjoyed my swim after 8 hours stuck at Zanzibar airport going nowhere. It’s right by the sea so you get some great views of the ocean and the sunset. I dined in the restaurant - food (buffet) was good but the restaurant is quite hot. The worst aspect of this hotel was the noise at night. I woke up around 2am to someone shouting in the corridor outside my room. This went on for ages and I couldn’t get back to sleep. All in all, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.

My partner and I stayed at Zanzi Resort for our honeymoon, and wow! What a spectacular resort. We were treated with so much love and kindness that we felt we were dreaming during our stay there. We had the bungalow with a private pool, which was very clean and tidy, both inside and out. The exceptional staff made our stay there one of our most memorable stays in Zanzibar. I would like to personally thank Emanuel for going above and beyond to make my partner and I feel so at home and loved during our stay. You would be the reason why we would return to this resort :) Thank you! Regarding the facilities. The pier had a nice lounging area and the swimming from it was fantastic. There were SUPS that could be used free of charge to paddle around the scenic coastline. The beach is not as picturesque as some of the northern beaches, but the very tropical setting of this resort makes you feel that you are on a long-lost tropical paradise island. The restaurant was fantastic, and it was the best food we had during our trip to Zanzibar. They even have a little platform that leads from a tree and enters the beautiful restaurant where bushbabies come down to sit on during dinner time! What an experience. All in all, I highly recommend this gem of a place, and we will definitely return to this resort when we return to Zanzibar.

What a hotel! Absolutely beautiful decor and facilities. Staff were all so friendly, helpful and professional, never wanted for anything whilst there, service was impeccable. Rooms were really good size and fantastically stocked with shower robes, slippers, shower accessories, toothbrushes, razors, shaving foam, towels, minibar and coffee. The food was all absolutely amazing too, the portion size are quite big so make sure you’re hungry. Overall, this hotel is just great, I would definitely recommend it for a stay. Only words of caution I would give you, take some water shoes with you as the sea outside the hotel is full of urchins. I would also recommend doing the snorkelling and starfish tour, and go to Salaam Cave to see the turtles. The general manager was also there with his wife both of whom were fantastic hosts and always came to say hello in the evenings and ensure everything is okay.
RrchallidayWe recently stayed for seven nights (myself and my two daughters - one adult and one child). Location is amazing - right on the beach with picture book views from the room and the balcony. The swimming pool was a welcome addition and the restaurant always delivered great Italian food. Breakfast was plentiful. On a few nights, we took a short walk along the beach to try out some of the other restaurants but nothing compared. The staff just couldn’t do enough and were very friendly. The resort is small (just 15 rooms) and is located at the quieter end of Jambiani so not too busy. Airport transfers worked perfectly (you have to request them in advance) and the hotel arranged some unforgettable custom day trips for us. The room was basic and quite small but more than adequate for what we needed. We were treated a few times to the colobus monkeys in the trees right next to our balcony and you can hear the gentle crashing of waves in the room. If I had to be picky - a fridge, kettle and safe in the room would have been useful. Otherwise no complaints and this is right up there as one of our favourite holidays ever.
GGuest UserI stayed at this hotel for 5 days. The hotel is just as it looks in the pictures, nice and the outside areas are well maintained. The rooms, are very small and quite damp due to the integrated shower. The pillows are damp, even ours were mouldy (we had them changed). The mosquito nets have holes in them (they were replaced with new ones) and the toilet has no ventilation. The safe box did not work and we were never able to use it. There are no amenities, they offer the same body soap and shampoo, no body lotion. The food in the restaurant is VERY mediocre and the staff speaks very little English, so it is very difficult to place an order with any intolerance or personal request (they almost never took it into account and brought the dish as it was on the menu, we ended up talking to the chef to clarify our intolerances), but in the end, for guests with any kind of intolerance/allergy, I would NOT recommend this hotel. The service in the restaurant is very slow, it took us about an hour and a half to dine, ordering only one drink and one dish per person. The glasses in the restaurant are made of plastic and very old. We do not recommend ordering breakfast to take away (breakfast box), we requested it the day of check out for 5:30am and it was not prepared, so we had to leave the hotel WITHOUT breakfast and without ANY solution, only an apology, even having paid for it as we had half board. To sum up, very poorly managed hotel with maintenance and hygiene/cleaning work to be done in order to meet the expectations of a 3 star hotel. We will recommend our travel agency to stop working with this hotel.
we arrived at Jambiani White Sands by taxi, as soon as we arrived the hotel staff came to collect our bags and took us to the hall (in perfect bungalow style) they sat us down and offered us a welcome drink, a fruit smoothie fresh. after which they explained the place to us and took us to our room. the place is wonderful, bungalows on the very fine white beach, the sea a little green a little blue and blue and you can see from the window it is one step away from the rooms really on the beach like in the films. The staff is very kind, they make you feel at home, they explain all the secrets of Zanzibar and their territory. we also did some excursions recommended by Joka who guided us through the local wonders. The excursions are highly recommended, they take you step by step to the places you want to go, explaining everything and making you experience this wonderful country.
