Hotel Copernicus

Krakow|0.84km from Lookarna Illustrations
A review based only on a Spa experience. After a previous visit to Hotel Copernicus last year, we decided to return for a Spa day. The hotel is expertly renovated and stunning inside, boasting a modern interior whilst maintaining the charm of the historical building. The lobby is extremely charming. The hotel itself has 29 rooms and is in high demand, and it’s obviously to see why. The location is perfect with the castle just a minutes walk away. The main square is also easily accessible, about 5-8 minutes walk down the Main Street which is bustling with shops, attractions, and museums. Now, about the spa. This is located in the cellar of the hotel and is once again, finished to an extremely high standard. The cellars are accessible via both stairs and an elevator. The spa is not large by any means, and the low vaulted ceilings provide a very cosy and intimate environment. Your first view is a crystal clear-blue pool, which reflects the light across the ceiling and walls creating a mesmerising dance of the light. To the right is a small check-in desk and immediately behind this is a quaint changing area furnished with lockers, a sink area, and shower. The spa is affiliated with L’Occitane and so all the products are branded as such. As expected, these products are top-shelf and smell incredible. In the lockers, bath robes and slippers are provided, and towels are liberally placed around the spa for your convenience. As a male with size 11 feet, I stood no chance squeezing my spade-like feet into the dainty slippers. I asked for a bigger pair and was provided with an identical, one-size-fits-most pair. Needless to say, I was also unable to wear these but I am used to this so bought my own sliders for the occasion. Next, into the relaxation chamber. Two large reclining beds are located here, on the floor. Very comfy and relaxing environment. Many candles (electric imitations) are present and the atmosphere was so calm I lay down and had the most amazing Power Nap. Free water (bottled) is provided. There is also another shower with an assortment of yet more L’Occitane products. A small sauna in the corner was set to 99° Celsius - and certainly felt it. I managed to endure 10 minutes, but would struggle to stay longer due to the heat. The pool itself is relatively small, but the atmosphere is unparalleled. And due to the need to book a treatment to access the spa, was deserted. The pool itself is amazing, and although heated, is at body temperature. The real star of the show was the treatments. My partner and I both booked facial treatments. 60 minutes for approximately £70. Not exactly cheap by Kraków standards, but this was by far the most amazing experience. The smell of lavender and other essential oils was incredible. The masseur was equally brilliant and I left feeling the most relaxed and stress-free I have been in years. If you are looking to pamper yourself - there is simply nothing else available to this level in the c

I like to write balanced reviews and find positives but I'm struggling to find any with this hotel apart from the location which is in the heart of the Jewish district. I was hoping for an authentic stay here, I had checked the pictures etc and knew it was dated inside and had no bar. Fair enough. On arrival the very sullen person on reception allocated us a room. We checked it out and immediately went back to reception to ask to be moved, the answer was no, we are too full. The room was tiny. To the point you couldn't walk around the far side of the bed without turning sideways. No room there to get dressed, put shoes on etc. There was a dressing table with a chair. I couldn't pull the chair out far enough to sit on it and get my legs under(see pic) I'm average sized. The bathroom was ok sized but the shower was a trickle and the shower tray very spongy when stood on. It was difficult not to slip, no rubber mat to make this safer either. This all made getting ready a nightmare. Two of us a the same time was just not doable. The room window wouldn't open. It looked out onto a half wall half courtyard. The handle came off the wardrobe when we opened it. We soon fixed that but it just added to all the above disappointments. I honestly think the room wasn't a ”room” initially and they have shoehorned furniture into what was maybe a store room to get an extra room. Breakfast was ok if you like sloppy scrambled eggs and chopped up bits of warm sausage. We just had some cheese on bread. There was beetroot, cucumber and tomato if you prefer a salad for breakfast. You need to put your toast in the toaster the night before if you want it done for breakfast time, it takes that long. One 4 slice toaster for the whole breakfast room. Tables were slow to be cleared. Every morning there were only a couple of clean tables to sit at. The rest were not all occupied but still had dirty plates/cups etc waiting to be cleared. Overall a really disappointing stay. On the last day we checked out early to avoid being in the room all morning and spent it at a shopping centre sat in coffee shops. Needless to say we won't be back to this one. My advice would be to book elsewhere in the Jewish district.

We spent three nights here and this was a disappointing stay. It was extremely noisy at night. The room that we were given faced the street despite our asking for a quiet room when we booked. Apart from two narrow tall windows, there is no other source of ventilation. We had to open the windows as it was hot. Unfortunately, there are many bars/restaurants and every night we were subjected to drunks shouting, singing, music and also fighting on the street below the hotel. The nearest bar was only a few doors away and seemed to be a magnet for the badly behaved. This went on till early morning, usually about 3.00am. The street is blocked off to traffic at one end and is therefore used as a rat-run for people on foot leaving the socialising area. The disturbance is continuous; had it been in short bursts with long periods of quiet in between it would have been bearable. Sleepless 3 nights! Not happy at all! The front desk staff (present only from 8am - 10pm) and we were locked out of the hotel twice as the card entry was temperamental and the door extremely heavy to open. We were rescued by another guest leaving and on the second occasion by the receptionist arriving early. We asked to change rooms due to the noise. The body language displayed during the reply that none other rooms were available suggested that they simply could not be bothered. It was certainly not a case of their having to clean the room – ours never was (see next paragraph) The room and bathroom were basic but did not look clean. The room and bathroom were not cleaned during the stay and the waste bin never emptied. Pillows were not up to standard - too soft and collapsed and flattened out! The WIFI was weak and was switched off one night. The breakfast buffet was simple but good with a respectable range of food. On the plus side – the hotel is in a great location with many sites and the old town within a short walking distance. If you don’t need to sleep during your stay the hotel represents good value.

I think we had the best room in the hotel, great street views. Bed was huge and really comfy . In fact the whole room was big with a comfy sofa , table and nice shower room. Staff were lovely and friendly and it was a superb location. We stayed for four nights and every evening after a day out, came back to a nice clean room . Will definitely stay here again.

Kolory Guest House

I arrived at Bed & Breakfast Kolory and was greeted by a cold response at reception, no big deal it happens sometimes. I entered my room and was pleased, it looked clean and had quirky ornaments and pictures to make it homely. I tried to gain access to the wifi but had no luck, I went back downstairs to reception to ask for help to use the wifi she said she will refresh the wifi and should work, I went back upstairs and tried again no luck. I showered and changed and left to go out, I went past reception and wasn't even asked if my wifi was working or if they could help just indifference. I entered the breakfast room next morning and it looked average, I got myself a bowl of cereal and noticed their wasn't much milk left, I politely asked the reception if I could have some more..no response she just went and filled it and put it down. I get the impression the staff see thier guests as an inconvenience and would rather guests not stay there.
