Kyoto Machiya Fukune

Nijo Castle Kyoto|0.24km from Setsushin
After staying at minshukus, ryokans and western-style hotels over the last several days, it was a pleasure to end our Japan stay with 2 nights at Kyoto Machiya Fukune. The 2 of us appreciated the extra space of the Sangen machiya compared to our previous lodgings to just chill out, especially when soaking in your personal outdoor hot water (not onsen) bath or the indoor hinoki bath and looking out onto the compact zen garden. Beds were comfortable and bathrooms modern and clean. The included mini-bar (Asahi beer, sake, soft drinks and water) was an unexpected bonus! The welcome tea ceremony with traditional sweets (much better than that offered with the included entry price at the Okochi Sanso Garden in Arashiyama) was a far superior greeting than fronting a hotel reception desk even if one has to wait (about 10 mins) for Miki to arrive (which was forewarned in the pre-stay info); we were informed of our security code when we rang (using the complimentary phone in the separate arrival area) and could access the machiya while waiting. Miki was very helpful with local restaurant and sightseeing tips. Excellent pre-stay information was provided via email from Kyoto Machiya Fukune. While we didn’t use the laundry (complimentary) we did make use of the locker, which we found could store 2 large suitcases and 2 carry-on luggage with room leftover for shopping bags. It cost us ¥1500 for taxi/uber from JR Kyoto stn to the machiya. Once there it is only several minutes’ walk to various train stns or bus stops. Nishiki mkt’s western entrance is about a 10min walk away. This was my 3rd time in Kyoto with the goal to visit sights we hadn’t seen previously like Arashiyama’s bamboo grove and Fushimi Inari shrine. The Randen line’s Shijo-Omiya stn is just over 10mins walk away and the tram takes you into the heart of Arashiyama’s shopping *****, the Kimino forest and near the Tongetsu-kyo bridge. Then take your time to walk to the bamboo grove via Tenryo-ji shrine. They say it best to get to the grove early to beat the tourists, but it rained in the morning, so we took our time and got to the grove about lunch-time. While crowded, it wasn’t as packed as what we thought it would be, given it was a Sunday and also ‘golden week’ (maybe people were eating lunch). We also walked to and visited the Nison-in temple that was recommended by Miki; she highlighted the moss that covered a lot of the grounds; a very worthwhile diversion and IMHO better than the Okochi Sanso Garden we also visited). Had a late lunch in the local area then walked to JR’s Saga-Arashiyama stn; ¥220 to JR’s Inari stn (simple transfer at JR Kyoto stn) with the Fushimi Inari shrine entrance across the road. The place is pricey, but we’re glad we stayed here.

The Royal Park Hotel Iconic Kyoto

Service: Excellent service from hotel staff, spoke English, accommodating, helpful and cheerful. Location : Quiet area, right next to a train station exit, convenient location. It is close to Kyoto Station by taxi ( approx 5-10 mins), located at an intersection and was easy to grab a taxi. It is not located that close to the main Kyoto shopping street, but it's just a peaceful 5-10 minutes walk away from the main stretch of shopping and food areas. Great to explore the quiet side of Kyoto. Lawson mart just opposite, the quiet lane opposite had lots of quaint cafes and bakeries. What a wonderful find just walking through the little lanes opposite. Away from tourists crowds, immersed in local Kyoto city vibes. Room style and space: Room furnishing decor colours were so soothing, stylish pale sage greens, light cream and oak, modern and pleasant , light cream tones. Fantastic huge single beds and pillows, fluffy and clean pillows, huge sofa, strong showers from rain shower in bathroom. Loved every corner in my corner room. Spacious work desk at the corner, perfect for a working business trip. The balcony flanked the entire room length.. absolutely wonderful.. sat outside on the balcony and people watched. Bathroom amenities and products included face and body moisturizers, combs etc, all wrapped in classic stylish Japanese style. Perks: We received daily vouchers which we could use for lounge cocktail hour (free flow great selections of wines, beers, sake, hot drinks etc drinks and snacks) or for high tea set in the lounge area. The lounge area was so cozy. Wonderful vibes. High tea set was amazing, provided by famous patissierie that's located in the hotel lobby. Wonderful chill experience just before we head out for daily dinners. Facilities: We checked out the mist room and onsen.. so clean and stylish. Felt like we were at a W hotel. Overall super fantastic experience, wonderful ambience, rooms were new, stylish and cleanliness was top notch. Property itself is very new and modern. Perfect for solo or couples. Very quiet (some traffic noise, but not a big deal), peaceful neighborhood, chic furnishings. I loved my stay in Nov so much, I will stay again in future. Downside: The rooms face a few offices opposite, windows are not coated with opaque film.. so just be aware and not walk around underdressed in the room in full view of opposite buildings. Windows are definitely see through! Nothing the day curtains can't fix.

Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Shinmachi Bettei

Kawaramachi Kyoto|0.11km from Setsushin
advantage: The service is meticulous. The facilities in the hotel, hot springs, and the neighborhoods around the hotel have very detailed introductions and instructions in English. The hotel room also provides conversion plugs, which is very friendly to foreign tourists. If it is your first time to go to Japan, it will be very comfortable to have such a detailed introduction. The space is well set up. The hotel lobby and guest room area pass through a door that requires a swipe card. The hot spring is also in the guest room area, so you can stroll around in the guest room area wearing the yukata provided by the hotel. There is a small bathhouse. This experience is very Japanese, with a seated shower area and a large bath that is not too big. Carbonic acid is added to the water in the bath. After entering, many small bubbles will gather on the skin, which is very interesting. There are many independent dressing tables in the dressing area where you can sit and blow dry your hair. The whole place is not big, but it is very comfortable to use. The semi-buffet breakfast is exquisite. The buffet section is basically Japanese side dishes, salads, and desserts, and the set menu can be selected from Japanese or Western styles. The ones we chose were all Japanese, including a piece of grilled fish, miso soup, tamagoyaki, chawanmushi and various side dishes. The portions were not large, but one bite left and right made us full without realizing it. shortcoming: The only drawback is that it is a bit far from the subway station and dragging suitcases is a bit tiring. But the surrounding small streets are very easy to stroll around, with many interesting shops.

We used it for the university entrance examination. Use it in twin for accompanying children. This hotel was decided by a hotel with a good transportation from the University and a large bath. Reasonable with breakfast! It was convenient and helpful to buy lunch box on the morning of the examination day because the first floor is seven eleven! I am glad that there is free coffee and soft drink at the front desk. Amenities are also placed at the front desk and you choose yourself and bring them into the room. The room was quite compact, but there was a desk and I could study. I'm glad that there is a new and clean humid air cleaner! It is the first experience that there is a washing machine in the room! It seems to be very popular for those who stay overnight. The public bath is also narrow, but the cleaning is well done and satisfied. There was also an open-air bath that could see the sky (laughs) I stayed on the second floor, so it is the floor with a breakfast restaurant. I thought that the guests would be noisy in the morning with the sound and the voice walking in the corridor, but the soundproofing was good without hearing the sound at all. There are many kinds of breakfast and cheap and satisfied! In the daytime of the examination day, it is sightseeing alone. Perfect location for sightseeing! 2 minutes walk to Shijo KARASUMA in the center! The train is also convenient and the best for bus sightseeing! Convenient to go anywhere! Shopping is also very convenient because there are many restaurants. It is recommended for sightseeing, business and examination in Kyoto. I want to use it again.

Resi Stay Nishijin

Nijo Castle Kyoto|2.58km from Setsushin
We had mixed reviews of this accomodation Pros - was a very large room two small doubles and a bunk perfect for families. Amenities are great with wifi, lots of kitchen utensils, stove, tea and coffee supplied, toothbrushes available, washing machine and tablets are provided with an inbuilt dryer system in the bathroom. Bathroom and shower area was also spacious. Beds are on the okay side but could be softer. The area itself is nice and quiet with a bus stop right out from we utilised every day, supermarket and Lawsons are across the road and you feel very safe. Would recommend for families. Cons - check in is in a different location 20minute taxi away so we had to catch a train to the check in office when arriving in Kyoto from Osaka, then a taxi to the accomodation after this which chewed up a few hours as we had to wait 45min in addition to check in due to busyness of the office. The area is a bit out of the way of everything next time I might consider staying at a different resi stay location closer to sights and facilities like shops etc. All the restaurants in the area seem to not open for breakfast until 11am so we had to have McDonald’s if we didn’t want to cook or travel too far for breakfast as we have a toddler (early riser). Same occurred at dinner time a lot of restaurants didn’t seem to be open the Monday or Tuesday we were there or opened too late for us (we travelled with a four year old). Our last disappointment was resi stay apparently have a strict not noise at night policy however another room partied until about 3am but there is no front desk or after hours phone number to call to complain / get the noise to stop. Was very frustrating as walls were very thin so we didn’t sleep very well. Overall we would stay with Resi Stay again but at another location due to Nishijin being a bit too out of the way for us.

It was a convenient hotel, close to the subway station and close to Shijo in the downtown area. The room was clean and the bedroom was clean because I took off my shoes and used slippers. The bathroom was also large, and the amenities such as shampoo were healed with a very good scent. The spa was also great, with a large bathtub 2, a barrel bath 2, and a mist sauna, healing the fatigue of the trip. Compared to the size of the bath, the washroom and the dressing room were small. We recommend that you go by shifting time. This time, the time I stayed overlapped with GoToTravel, and it took time to respond to customers using the coupon, so I wanted them to prepare a vaccination certificate in advance and then respond. It took time for our check-in. Also, the front desk is small, so only two people in charge could handle it. I would like you to consider the response of such customers and regular reservation customers like us.

I booked the hotel through a accommodations and bullet train package deal. It's located close to the Shijo subway station. The hotel is clean, staff friendly and helpful, and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was included in the deal. I opted for the Japanese option. The food was good and fresh coffee was available.

When we arrived, Inoue-san was waiting to welcome us in front of the property. (I felt bad because we arrived later than anticipated due to traffic.) He helped us carry all our heavy suitcases. We received a warm welcome and his hospitality during our stay was second to none. Everything about the property was wonderful! The location was perfect as we were there for the Kyoto Gion Matsuri. There were lots going on the street we were on, including hoko (floats) parade, hoko assembling, music rehearsal at night, and hoko disassembling, which were very interesting. We enjoyed restaurants all around in neighborhood from Gyoza to Motsunabe. Transportation access to bus stops and train stations was good. The property was super clean. Having a washing machine and dryer system in the bathroom really helped us since we were there for a week. We definitely go back if we travel in Kyoto again in the near future!

Quite satisfied in all aspects First of all, the room is very spacious in Japan, and the design is relatively new. My favorite is the administrator service. There are only three rooms on the first floor. The soundproofing and privacy are very good. The only regret is that the location is a bit far from Shijo, but Kyoto is not big and acceptable.

I’m quite surprised by many of the reviews on here. We booked in only this afternoon, the hotel is nice and location is fine. It is a City centre hotel after all. The bathroom is good with a high spec toilet and a wet area and a ‘deep’ bath but at 6’2 i doubt i’d fit in. There are usb charging cables but no wifi roaming devices as some people say but these reviews were pre covid. My big complaint is that there is absolutely no storage. No drawers, or shelves The ‘wardrobe’ is just two rows of metal runners with 5 hangers. All fully exposed to the room and which you can’t help hitting when you go from door to bed The intriguing thing is that there is a full size door next to this. It opens into the room to reveal… a wall. Really handy for storing er large sheets of plywood maybe, as long as they are not more than an inch thick. We thought it might be a connecting door .. it’s not. There is a small bedside table on one side only. There is no reading light on the right side of the bed. There are only two pillows. As there is nowhere to store any additional ones as are usually found in even a premier inn. We have to keep all of our clothes in our suitcase, but we did find a use for an odd sized table as a suitcase stand. Oh yes and unlike the similar hotel in Hiroshima last night there is only one chair. I look forward to a response from the management team .
