Under normal circumstances, we would probably not have stayed at the Dome Hotel, as the reviews that we had seen were not brilliant but, as we were on an escorted tour (Jules Verne's Classic Kyrenia Tour), we did not have much of a choice of accommodation and knew that we would be out on trips most days, which meant that it wouldn’t matter too much if the hotel wasn’t perfect. After having spent a week there, we can say that there are plenty of positive things about this hotel, but we can also see why it might get some poor reviews too. Before our arrival, we were in email contact with the Dome to ask a couple of questions and received prompt and helpful responses. We had advised them that it was our wedding anniversary during our stay and were delighted to find out when we arrived that they had upgraded us from a standard room to a two room junior suite (Room 346). The bedroom on its own was a good size anyway, but having the extra lounge room was very useful as the bedroom storage space was a little restricted. The bathroom was also a good size and had a jacuzzi bath, which was a nice touch, but it was a bit awkward to get in and out of, plus it was difficult to use the shower without getting water everywhere, as the shower screens did not meet in the middle. The bathroom fixtures and fittings were rather tatty and dated, as was the room overall, with dark brown being the main colour present. We really did not like the fact that the room’s doors did not have proper secure locks on them, just a push button on the inside, plus we only had one key, which made things a bit awkward if we were going out separately. We were pleased to have an in-room safe, although it seemed odd that it wasn’t actually attached to anything (so it would have been perfectly possible for someone to steal the entire thing). We didn’t have anything from the mini-bar, but there was at least enough spare room for us to keep our own stuff in there. We really liked having 2 balconies, particularly since we had an unrestricted sea view from both of them. The air conditioning worked well, plus we were able to get a nice breeze through the rooms via the balcony doors. We stayed at the Dome on a half-board basis, which meant that we had breakfast and dinner in the main restaurant each day. The food at both meals was of reasonable quality, but not very exciting or varied over the week. We were very surprised to see that the leftover soup from dinner was offered at breakfast the next morning! The puddings at dinner were very good though and we appreciated being able to order fresh omelettes at breakfast. We also liked the fact that bottled water was included with dinner at no extra cost. As the weather was warm during our stay, we chose to eat on the terrace each morning and night, but our experience was often marred by the other guests chain-smoking their way through each mealtime. It would have been nice if some of the tables could have been reserved for non-smokers, such as the

Stayed here for one week in October. The weather was extremely hot during our stay. We arrived early hours of the morning due to a late Easy Jet flight into Larnica then hanging around for our private transfer driver. The journey across the border wasn’t too bad but most of it across open farm land in the pitch black which was quite unnerving. I booked a superior room in the new wing above the restaurant. The room was modern, large & with a small balcony where I sat in the morning with my coffee watching the sun rise. Being at the back of the hotel, there was no issue with noise. We were on a bed & breakfast tariff as eating out in Northern Cyprus is very reasonable. Most of the guests staying here were either frequent returning guests, part of a tour group or only visiting for a few days to Gamble at the ****** next door or for cheap cosmetic surgery! Getting a sun bed around the pool was not an issue and there was a large bar/snack bar where there were plenty of tables and chairs with many in shady spots. The bar staff came around the pool for drinks/snacks orders too. All the staff were helpful and very friendly. You could walk into the old town from this hotel but because of the heat we got a taxi. We did an organised trip to Famagusta and the Ghost Town. We took a taxi to Kyriena castle and a taxi to Belapaise Monastery. All worth doing. Glad I booked this hotel instead of down in the Old Town. Other couples we spoke to that were in hotels down town complained about the constant traffic noise. Plenty of eateries within a short walk but watch out, the pavements are very uneven and a lot are broken too. Unfortunately the harbour area was still closed off due to overrunning completion which was a shame but looked like it was nearly finished.

Pros - Location - Spa - Roof top pool - Food Hotel within easy distance to harbour, bars,shops, and local transport. Rooms spacious and very clean. Cons - busy road opposite two petrol stations and traffic heavy all day. Staff on reception not helpful or accommodating. There is no air conditioning and our room on arrival at midnight was 26.5°. We couldn't believe it and had to insist on two fans that we left on permanently all night and the day when we were in the room. Some of the electric sockets and plugs had loose wiring so we had to keep reporting faults. Our main complaint was the heavy smell of petrol that we assumed came from the petrol station. When we phoned reception to request a move to another room we were told there were no more twin bedded rooms available but for what is classified as a five star hotel, I'm sure they could have accommodated us. The stench was overwhelming. Finally after calling in one of the cleaners she indicated it wasn't the petrol stations but the drain in the shower that she would clean out. That evening on returning to the room, the smell had gone. However next morning it started to seep in again. We called in another cleaner and pointed out the stench and showed her the sockets that didn't work. She said leave it to me and that night everything was fixed but we only had two nights left of our holiday. The cleaner's name was Hava and I would like to commend her to the hotel management. Our conversation was done though my translation app and sign language. In spite of everything we enjoyed our stay as the pros outweighed the cons. Would not stay at this hotel again until it is modernised. The summer months must be unbearable.

Location very good, amenities fine, breakfast very average, facilities good apart from one of our group went to the hair dressers and got charged €77 for a wash and blow dry. After challenging the hairdresser she was told they used very expensive trea**ent on her hair. Hence two others cancelled their hair appoin**ents. We will consider another hotel for our next trip.

Daha önceden kalmayı planladığımız otel rezervasyonu ile ilgili sorun çıkınca, 2 günlüğüne geçici olarak kalmak üzere Girne limanında bulunan ”White Pearl” isimli otelde yer bulduk. 1 Geceliği için de 2.100 ₺ para verdim! Ama odası, banyosu her yer pis ve bakımsızdı. Mini dolabında boş kutu kola çöpü vardı. Otel değil, sanki terk edilmiş köhne bir apartman dairesi gibiydi. Mecbur olduğumuzdan 2 gün kalmak durumundaydık. Ancak ilk gece böcek ısırmalarından dolayı ertesi gün kalacak yer aramak üzere oteli terk ettik. 1 gün sonra eşimin tüm vücudunda oluşan böcek ısırığı yaraları 2. Gün 2,5 yaşında ki kızımda ve bende de başladı. Tüm vücudumuz yoğun bir şekilde kaşınıyordu. Bir başka otelde yer bulduk. Eşim 2 gece yoğun kaşıntıdan uyuyamadı. Hafta sonu olduğundan nöbetçi bir eczane buldum, eczacıya yaraları gösterdiğimde bize uyuz olduğumuzu söyleyip uyuz kremi verdi, kremi kullandık ancak ızdırap gibi kaşıntılarımız devam etti. Pazartesi günü Girne'de ki devlet hastanesinin aciline gittik. Doktor uyuz olmadığımızı böcek ısırığı olduğunu söyledi ve üçümüze de alerjik ve rahatlatıcı iğne yaptılar. Ailemle birlikte mutlu bir tatil hayaliyle geldiğimiz Girne'de tatilimiz bu otel yüzünden zehir oldu. Tüm vücudumuz yara bere içinde. Kızımın çektiği ızdırabı asla unutmayacağım. Otelin sahibi olan b*** bey 'in telefonunu buldum ve olayın 2. Günü arayıp vücudumuzdaki yaraların resmini attım ve durumu belirttim. Bana sadece; kusura bakmamamı ama böyle bir şeyin mümkün olmadığını, ilk kez bir şikayet aldıklarını söyledi. Ben kendisine şikayetlerimi belirtmeye devam ettikçe bana ”şikayet edin beyefendi, şikayet edin” diyerek konuyu kapattı. Burada yaşayan tanıdığım bir kişi aracılığı ile tanıştığım bir başka kişiye bu olayları anlattığımda bana; ”bu oteli bildiğini, sorunlu ve bakımsız bir mekan olduğunu benzer şikayetleri daha önce de duyduğunu söyledi.Bu otelde kalıp sağlığınızı riske atacağınıza parktaki bankta yatın daha güvende olursunuz.

Just returned from another lovely holiday at Sammys Hotel Kyrenia, post covid break. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The staff, Tara, Ali, Jony, Dior, Aziz could not do enough for us. Our room was cleaned everyday, room lady and on occasion the young man were excellent, clean towels and sheets everyday. There were a few changes made from the last time, all for the better. Only downside, for me especially, was the lift had broken and it was hard for me to climb the 3 flights of stairs, but no doubt that will be sorted for the next visit. Roll on September

We have recently returned from two weeks staying at Altinkaya. Altinkaya is somewhat of a conundrum as the grounds are beautifully maintained and it has a pleasant swimming pool. We stayed in the hotel on the first floor at the back of the building. The room was quiet and had a view of the mountains , although somewhat obscured by the tall trees that edge along the hotels boundary . The room was basic with a tiny fridge which was barely cold, the air conditioning worked well. There was a kettle and two mugs that had been hidden away in a cupboard , complimentary tea and coffee were not provided nor any drinking glasses, although upon asking the bar man happily gave us two wine glasses . Neither the glasses or mugs were replenished with fresh ones during our stay. The bathroom consisted of a narrow bath with an over the bath shower which was generally cold or luke warm. The cleaning and replacing of towels and bedding was very hit and miss and I had to ask for our bathroom to be cleaned properly after it not having been cleaned for several days. The pool was pleasant but unfortunately the mattresses on the loungers were grubby and some of the parasols filthy and appeared to be smeared with mud. The food in the restaurant was fresh but repetitive and basic. Staffing seemed thin on the ground but they were pleasant and happy to help. Information on trips and activities in the reception area is out of date , we asked about Horse riding and were told this had not resumed following covid , yet the poster remained during the entirety of our stay. The communal areas in the hotel looked very nice and we sat inside the bar ( which I think is used during the cooler months ) whilst there was a heavy storm one evening. The lounge area has a good library of books and there is a large new restaurant. In conclusion Altinkaya has the potential to be a great hotel it just needs some attention to detail.
