Avea is a modern style guesthouse. All facilities such as a hot shower, AC and WiFi worked well. The bed was comfortable. Towel and soap, toiletpaper all routinely provided. The accommodation is kept very clean. Drinking water and boiling water to make your own coffee or tea is included. Staff want to give good service to the guest. It is not a place where you just get a room for a certain time and that is it. The location is not directly in the city center, but in Anna Nagar which means you have to deal with rickshaw drivers. Staff will assist you. I walked up and down to town and the bus stations. Arappalayam bus stand (Munnar, Coimbatore destinations) is 6 km away. Mattuthavani bus station (Chennai destination) is at a distance of 3 km. Keep in mind Madurai city center is very congested (narrow streets with a lot of noise and exhaust fumes). Anna Nagar is where the city middle class lives. It is more quiet and restaurants are of better standards. Stayed four days.

Hotel Grand Sabarees is conveniently loacted with close proximity to the Railway station, good vegetarian restaurants and Meenakshi temple. The rooms are very well maintained and clean. The pricing is very reasonable. The staff are very courteous and try their best to help the guests feel comfortable. They even accommodated our request for an early check-in by an hour. The rooms are small and compact, nealy maintained and the bathrooms are also maintained very clean. Hot water is available 24 hours. Food from outside is allowed to be taken to the rooms - no in house restaurant is available - however, some good restaurants are available in close proximity. The railway station is walkable and so is the bus stand. We would prefer this stay when we travel to Madurai.

Extremely clean room. We loved the contemporary design. Everything looked really new when we were there. We stayed in the small room. Some might find it a little tight. But it was okay for us. Really nice breakfast spread. Only downer is that there was a little musty or damp smell in our room. Just a little whenever we entered. Other than that it was great.

The front desk service was very good, but the business was very bad. Had stayed for two nights with family, the main highlight of the stay besides clean room and excellent complimentary breakfast spread was the exceptional service by the staff right from security to cleaning each and every one of them was polite and helpful. We wanted to surprise our parents/grandparents on their 50th wedding anniversary and Gateway Madurai went above and beyond our expectations. The staff are very courteous, genuine and friendly. Mr Easwar, Mr Soby, Mr Ashok, Mr Mani, Mr Sasi Kumar, Mr Jana, Mr Venkat, the restaurant staff, Ms Shilpa, Ms Ashwini plus the housekeeping staff , all went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. Thank you for making it a special experience.
