We arrived by car at this new, modern hotel. We could easily park the car in one of the free parking spaces in the fenced area in front of the impressive building. At the reception we were welcomed by a lady who was top friendly and super professional at the same time. When we checked in, we immediately felt warmly welcome. We were given valuable tips for our stay in the city, and we were also helped to book a table for dinner when seats in the restaurants were scarce because of the weekend. The spacious rooms have a creative design. At the same time, they are very homely. Everything is absolutely clean. The beds are comfortable with pleasant pillows. Air conditioning and rain shower are of course also part of the great equipment. At breakfast, we were equally welcomed by brilliant staff who complemented the rich, high-quality buffet with perfect service. We will be back!

The room is very characteristic and not at all. The hotel is the best photo point to climb up to the opposite rock church for five minutes, behind the church is the ancient cave.

Matera is beautiful, so it's all a contour. This premise, I gave this weekend to my husband for his birthday because we never had been at Matera. I booked this hotel for his particularity, choosing the room in the saxes. The “negative” things I found were: “The quite uncomfortable bed, because I often wake up during the night. The location of the hotel is in the historical part, but outside the area of the ”caves”. The room was fine and clean. But the staff was not very nice. For example, we ordered a small bed for a toddler and it was delivered to the room without a mattress. It took me some time to explain them that the baby can not sleep without mattress and just after that they realized that we need it. Breakfast was simple, to simple for 4*, even 3* hotel.

We corresponded by email with Bette about our reservation and stay at Cenbbio Hotel. She responded promptly and in English. Our shuttle car arrived within a few minutes of our phoning from the parking garage Francesco, the driver was very efficient and helpful. We did have to walk down a good number of flights of steps with our luggage. Francesco helped with our bags and went at our pace which made it easier. The hike was well worth it because the hotel and the view are SPECTACULAR. Ivana at reception gave us a very warm welcome. The rooms were unique- beautiful 'caves' with modern amenities and elegant furnishings. The complimentary breakfast was great- pastries, fruits, cured meats, wonderful cheeses and eggs cooked to order. All of the staff greeted us warmly. Mario, the manager was particularly good conversation. He spoke with us in English and Italian. We would love to return to Matera and Cenobbio Hotel!

Magical location in a magical city. Spectacular view from our room across the valley to the cave-filled hillside. It was quiet at night even though close to several tourist attractions. The room, built into an existing cave, was very comfortable and attractive. The staff were very helpful, especially Roberto who gave us excellent ideas for how to explore the city. You can’t park anywhere in the old city of Matera, but the hotel picked us up at the parking garage - just a 5 or 10 minute wait.

We wanted to stay in the Matera Sassi district - this hotel was perfect. It started with staff offering to book a car park in the new area of town. It was walkable to the hotel but we chose to take them up on their offer to have a driver pick us up at the car park - 20 euro for 4 adults. The garage is new and was the easiest parking we've ever had in Italy. Hint: if you're driving, use Google maps on your phone instead of the car's nav system to get to the garage. The car system took us to the wrong place and we talked to another couple who had the same experience. When we put in google nav, we got to the garage easily. Check in was easy and very welcoming. We got lots of info and a nice orientation to our rooms. Everyone was telling us ”relax, this is your home now and we will take care of everything” (and they did). Our rooms were lovely, ours even had a sauna in the larger shower. Nice amenities like robes and slippers and cold bottles of water in fridge at no charge. Note that the rooms are carved out of caves so they are on the dark side. I asked for an extra lamp, and it was very promptly brought to our room. Beds were quite comfy. Breakfast was fantastic! Lots of typical Italian foods along with American basics. The coffee was great, and our waitress cheerfully accommodated our requests. Finally, location is perfect - we walked everywhere. Didn't need the car at all during our 2 night visit. All in all a five star experience!
