I always like to make my own decisions regarding hotel stays, so having read a lot of the reviews regarding the Alimuri, we arrived with an open mind. We arrived late at night in the middle of the most horrendous weather and after checking in and being given our key (a single old fashioned key) we were told we could go to the restaurant for a cold platter. It was half a boiled egg and some cold pasta with some bread and butter and a bottle of wine and water. Ummm! Our room - a leak in the bathroom making the floor slippery, a broken wardrobe door which wouldn’t open and the sockets for the kettle not working….ooooh not a good start. Went to reception who promptly gave me another kettle. Went back upstairs to make a cuppa as you do,poured the creamer in and it all curdled. Unhappy face! Before breakfast, spoke to reception about our issues and to be fair by the time we returned to our room, the wardrobe had been fixed and a towel had been placed under the leak. The receptionist had come to find us and told us we were being upgraded to a junior suite, which was a lovely surprise……..it had a jacuzzi! Happy face! Food - as others have said, there is not the variety you would get in a bigger hotel complex and the food is never very hot. You will always find something to eat even if it’s the lovely rolls and butter but don’t expect 4 star dining. Drinks - plentiful. Wine by the bottle! Mineral water freely given out. Lovely ice cream Internet - pretty good on the whole but can drop if the weather is bad Shuttle bus - excellent for going into Sorrento but needs to be booked early the day before as gets booked up pretty quickly. Things to do in the immediate vicinity - unless you are very fit and don’t mind walking, there isn’t much around todo to entertain you. The local bus isn’t too far away and runs every 20 mins into Sorrento. There is also a train about 15 mins walk from the hotel . The hotel is very old and in need of renovating but it has character and is kept spotlessly clean by the staff. The swimming pool - it’s flippin freezing! Newly refurbished but there is no heating. Apparently the sea is warmer. The staff - they are fantastic. Always a smile and a greeting for you. They are very helpful and will usually do their best to help you. Would we stay here again……probably not. Maybe because we have been spoilt by hotels in Croatia and Gran Canaria, which are far superior given the same star rating. It just wasn’t for us.
