Hotel Ste-Catherine

Downtown Montreal Montreal|0.92km from Saint-Catherine Street
First of all, I need to tell that I'm a discreet crossdresser, shy, with no confidence in my self... yet, hopefully.. The story goes on : I got there to leave my bags and to go out with friends in the Montréal, so I don't mess around with the room, if I'm there 30 minutes.. that's good.. So, when I wanted to check out (at 6am) the guy ask me some question, unsusual ones, after getting some answer he then told me he could not give me back my deposit because its the manager task... But the young guy look weird, like he was looking for its words.. After some time arguing gently, he told me ''okay I will do 50/50, I will give you 10$ of the 20$'' I'm like .. if you have the right to get 10$ out of the cash why not 20$? especially if its written on the paper in front of us (room X 20$ deposit) I got a wild speculation in my head : at that moment I knew the guy was probably doing it to every customer that seem ''breakable enough'' if he do that to 4-5 people a night, he probably get 50 to 100$ in the back of the business... But I cannot confirm it. Its just a bad start to make me believe differently, anyway in the end the guy ''throw me 4-5$ in paper through the little reception hole'' I got them and before leaving he told me ''you should say thanks'' in a not gentle way.. (my perception) So ! the next week I got there too !! yep .. yeah going there again, I really like my friends... First the room I rent was the last one, was smaller than before and I paid it 20$ more than the last week (it was the same day i think) seem like a closet upstairs but to leave only my things I was ''okay'' with it. But then realizing that the employee there was the manager I could finally talk about what hell I lived the last time and explained my story, the manager told me that there was a guy that was making trouble, so he showed me some picture of employee to pinpoint who it was... After, I confirm if I would have problem taking back my deposit if I were to leave around 5-6am, he reassured me on that... 6am arrived, go back to my room, taking my things back, going to the desk... the same young guy ''sleeping on the job'' was there ... aaaaaanndddd the story repeated its self till I told him a deposit is my money... should we settle this with the police ? and then when he ''Give'' me my money back he told me I should go elsewhere next time .. (how is this possible im the dream costumer, I pay full room, I don't use it, when I come back is to leave..) anyway taking my money back and I got out... All the week I tried to contact the manager and when I called, the employee who answer, was strongly repeating to me in a panicking way.. ''what is it for'' like 3 times, and each time more aggressively, even if I told him its between me and the manager... So this is my little story with this ''special'' hotel...

There was a supermarket nearby, and the kitchen could be used, so it was nice to cook. The mattress is not good enough for the bed. The room was cold. It is a pity that there was no locker to hold large luggage. The staff are friendly and helpful. Towels and hair dryers were lent out. There was no problem with Wi-Fi.

honestly, this was a last minute panic hotel but it ended up working out to be a really good experience. My partner and I were supposed to fly to montreal from alberta for a doctors consultation and the day before we were supposed to leave, our other, pre paid hotel cancelled because they weren't open due to covid. They definitely had 10+ days to inform us before but oh well it ended up working out. We found this hotel for about 50 bucks a night with a $60 deposit. so we showed up, and immediately the owner(?) Showed us our room, but also allowed us to go check out another room on the third floor that also had a shower and more room for an extra 10 dollars. Honestly I jumped on that deal because even though I was almost broke, 10 dollars for our own private shower was a life saver. This hotel does have communal bathrooms and showers on each floor and as much as I dont care about that stuff, its sill nice to have access to that whenever. It also just so happened the day we land it was during a 40 degrees heat wave with no ac. So I lived in a cold shower for the majority of our time at the hotel. The owner also offered us use of the fridge and gave us some free water because it was hot as heck, even offering us an extra fan on top if the ceiling fan. There weren't any soaps or towels just a heads up, but we brought our own toiletries and went to the dollar store down the road to grab a beach towel even though i took advantage of being damp in the intense heat more often than not. This is a very old place, and its not necessarily the cleanest you've ever seen, but its neat, its homey, and its a really unique experience worth every dollar. Not to mention free wifi and a solid 3 channels on the TV haha. A bonus on top of the actual hotel is it is really close to the village which is a lovely inclusive lgbtq+ space with entertainment and shops and restaurants all around. Its also within walking distance to China town and the metro systems, plus some really lovely outdoor parks and buildings. Its also in a fairly busy area so if you don't like noise in a busy city it might be difficult but its something I don't mind and I think I actually like. I don't speak much french so it was entertaining sometimes to hear people drunkenly speak loudly in French and laughing all night. There are of course your fair share of people who struggle with homelessness and a couple of lovely sex workers but its part of the downtown monteal experience. And in comparison, the people addicted to substances and the sex workers from where im from are a solid 3/10 compared to montreals 8/10 with kindness and respect for other people lol So in ”short”, its a great experience. Its an old building that sadly has some cool sh*t painted over but it is what it is. Its also close to a bunch of cool locations and easy to access with public transportation. It also does smell like your local grandmas house including the 50 years of lingering cigarette smoke. It may be a smoke free bu

Booking's efficient since you receive the code for the main door, and your room. ahead of arrival. The reception while on duty doesn't want to do much. We buzzed to enter during reception hours, and they asked if we had our code/does our code not work.We couldn't locate the reception to ask for a continental breakfast item,or toiletries during their available hours. While doing the latter, we met the owners who are really nice people. The boutique hotel does need work as it looks dilapidated in parts of the common area, while the room we had looked tired. wifi,no issue here as an extender was in the hall of our second floor. The bathroom had what appeared to be a blood smear at the exterior tub edge wall. Room blinds are sheer, with an uncovered upper window. With a west side room, this won't matter as much to someone who isn't easily awoken by light. The elevator works which is good when you have luggage beyond a backpack. Parking, the location needs to specify there's ONLY 4 spots, unless one can somehow drive on the sidewalk to park a sub compact closer to the left of the stairs when facing the building to get a fifth spot. A motorcycle will have no issue if a spot's available. Overnight, due to the location,it was peaceful. For the price, this isn't a first choice, but we booked last minute.

Great, the Chinese boss is very enthusiastic! Breakfast croissants and coffee are enough, convenient transportation is 350 meters away from the subway, there are various restaurants such as IGA supermarket and McDonald's nearby.
