I was visiting Mount Vernon with a friend of mine from a Sunday afternoon through a Monday morning in October 2022, and we stayed at this Holiday Inn Express for the night. It's probably the nicest chain hotel in Mount Vernon. Overall, the hotel was decent. Our room (#314) was clean and comfortable. I appreciated being able to use the business center computer in the lobby, and breakfast was okay (not great but acceptable). There was one inconvenient problem that we had to deal with. Guests could not be given key cards to their rooms due to a problem with the electronic key system. This meant that, anytime a guest needed access to their room, a staff member needed to let them in. According to one of the hotel staff members, it was related to a computer supply-chain issue. Just strange, and something I can't say I'd ever experienced at a hotel before. One particular frustration was that, at one point when I needed access to the room on Monday morning, I had to ask one of the housekeeping staff on the 3rd floor to let me in to my room. She was asking me some odd questions about the situation, and I was getting frustrated because it was almost as if she didn't know why I needed her assistance with getting into the room. (I wasn't sure how aware she was of the situation.) I felt bad for the staff who had to let guests into their rooms, and at one point, a potential guest was yelling rudely at one of the front desk staff members when this clearly wasn't her fault. Also, the older woman working the front desk was extremely apologetic about the situation... very nice lady. Not her fault either. They were expecting the problem to be rectified within a few days or so of my stay. Anyway, the situation was annoying but the hotel itself is fine.
