I stayed at the Merryan Hotel in February 2023 on my first ‘mum & boy’ ski holiday with my 6 year old son. Thankfully I did not go on my holiday with high expectations as I had no idea what to expect, and I’m glad I didn’t! Unfortunately the Merryan hotel was pretty disappointing. On arrival we checked in and found that we had been given a room with a double bed despite requesting a twin. It was approx 2am so we just decided to deal with it the next day as the chap on reception seemed very vague. We were told by our travel rep the next day that they would be able to give us a twin room instead but on asking at reception later that day, the girl on reception told us that there were no other rooms available as the hotel was full. Later that evening a different lady (who seemed far more knowledgeable, perhaps one of the management) working in the restaurant told us that there was actually a room available after all but we would need to move that night - it was already too late for my little boy who was tired so we just decided to put up with sharing a bed for the week. The bed was also pretty dire with big indents where others had slept. Evening meals in the hotel were served 7-9pm. This was too late for a family friendly hotel, as younger children generally like to eat earlier on so they can get to bed at a decent time. The choice of food available was also quite limiting and typically Bulgarian, some evenings weren’t too bad but other evenings it was poor with very little variety or options for younger kids. It was also all served rather cold and there was no microwave there. Disappointingly there were no drinks included either, unlike the evening meals we have had in other hotels. Just some bottled water would have been a nice offering. The staff in the hotel all seemed a little vague as if they didn’t really know what was going on. There was no proper explanation about anything when we arrived, I had to ask about everything. The ski bus situation was very poorly explained, we had to work everything out for ourselves pretty much and they didn’t give us tickets for the bus on the first day, so the bus driver wasn’t impressed with us! The staff were generally pleasant though and my little boy always liked to say hello. The young lady on reception with glasses was always friendly & kind. Drink options from the bar were a little limiting - no Baileys or fruit gins which are so popular in the UK now. One evening I ordered a latte at the bar and took it down to my room. Once there I noticed the drink looked odd as if the milk had curdled. I took it back up to the bar and the bar man took the milk out of the fridge that he had used, took a drink and nearly threw up! Thankfully he made me a new one but it put me off ordering any more drinks there. I was rather surprised that the hotel had no lift - we were 5 flights of stairs down to our room and this was particularly tricky when trying to get heavy cases up and down! The stairs were also all t

This hotel is outstanding. The staff go over and above to make you feel welcome and will do anything to make your stay better. Rooms are warm, cozy, towels changed everyday and the hotel is immaculately clean. It is on the main street. Typically Bulgarian food (which even if you don't like the staff will try to make something for you). Will definitely be back, great hotel.

This is by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in, and I have stayed in a lot. This was the only hotel available when I booked and now I know why. Sadly this is not going to be a good review, however, one that I do suggest you read. I booked Merryan, having previously stayed in Hotel Orlovetz, as Merryan was the only hotel that had availability for my chosen dates. I read the reviews and thought it looked ok. I booked a twin room with balcony, half board with buffet breakfast and evening meal. Arrived at the hotel and was provided with very little information from the male receptionist, checked into our room to find no balcony and the beds were awful. It looked like the mattress had been a memory foam and had remembered every single person sleeping in it for the last ten years, the mattress was so bowed in the middle we considered sleeping on the floor. I actually let it go. Evening meal and it was a buffet, although a very limited choice and not great quality, with pink chicken. I also noted that there were very few people in the restaurant. Morning arrived, again a buffet breakfast, not great quality. After breakfast and asking where to get the shuttle bus for skiing, we found we were standing in the wrong place, although that’s where we were told to stand, also the bus driver asked us for our bus tickets which, we had not been provided by the hotel reception. Fast forward to evening meal. Upon arriving back after skiing another equally inept male receptionist asked us to choose from a set menu which had prices alongside. After explaining that we were half board he said ok and we went to our room, showered, which incidentally, showered over the toilet, and the whole floor of the room, so that every time we entered after had to remove our socks and dry our feet on the way out. We then went to the restaurant. The waitress was surprised to see us as she had been told by the receptionist that we were not eating as we had food in our room!!???? After some discussion, we received an apology, sat down to then be told it was a set menu as we were two of only four people in the hotel. Reluctantly we chose, received our food which was, quite frankly, awful. We left the majority and when asked if there was anything wrong we advised it wasn’t nice. We left, no offer of anything else. The next morning went for breakfast to be told we were the only two in the hotel and it was again a set menu. Again reluctantly, but being British, stayed and ordered an English breakfast. We received an egg, piece of bacon, cucumber, tomato, cheese, and jam all on the same plate!!!???? The male waiter, kept looking and playing on his phone, which was extremely off putting with background music on It was yet again awful and we left for skiing quite angry and actually depressed. That evening again were told we were the only two in the hotel so again a set menu, which was the same as the night before, I advised that I wasn’t happy and wanted to see the ma

We prefer to stay in small family hotels, this one just met our expectations. The hotel building is located on a slope and the floors go down, we lived on the -2 floor with a beautiful view of the slope and the pine forest. I really liked the mattresses and pillows on the beds in the room, we slept just fine. Didn't like the shower without a tray, so beach flip flops came in handy. WiFi catches everywhere, the quality is good. There was one Russian channel on TV. The room has a kettle, a capsule coffee machine and a refrigerator, but there is no safe. You can borrow a hair dryer from the reception. The ski room is small and not equipped with dryers, we left our skis there, and the boots were dried in the room by the battery. Breakfast is buffet style, great selection, dinner was good too. There is a sauna on the lowest floor, but we did not visit it. There is a supermarket and several restaurants near the hotel. From the hotel to the lower lift station about 1 km on the road. At the reception, they offer free coupons for a shuttle bus to the ski lifts, but we could not adjust to the schedule, and ordered a taxi via WhatsApp, 10 lev to the lower station, 15 lev to Studenets. After skiing, we had lunch at the FIS restaurant on Studenets, where a taxi was called back to the hotel via the restaurant's WiFi. We really liked the Pamporovo resort itself, although it is not big, there are slopes for every taste, and there are no huge queues like in Bansko, for example.
