What a gem. After a few nights in a small and dull room in noisy, crowded and overpriced Thamel, I found a hotel and a neighborhood that were one the highlights of my trip to Nepal. Heranya Yala is a recently-renovated hotel that preserves all the flavours of tradition wrapped in the comfort of modernity: tastefully-decorated ample rooms, delightful beds, warm lighting and a well-equipped bathroom. Located in a quiet, heritage-rich neighborhood nearby Patan Durbar square, the view of the hotel's ancient backyard from your window makes you feel a privileged traveler. And on top of it all, the Hotel's owner took aside a good chunk of his working day to show me the multiple treasures of a neighbourhood that could well be by its own right a touristic destination. I could hardly recommend this place more.
