Hotels Near Salon Jardin San Alfonso in Puebla

PROS Premises are pristine, from the parking lot to the front desk and all the way to the rooms and bathrooms -no smells, no mold, no stains; and that is refreshing and reassuring… hope this hotel will remain being taken good care of. The look is modern, stylish, fresh, and practical, which all in all adds for a very wheelchair friendly experience. The wheelchair accessible room is comfortable and easy to book, and although the bathroom could do with a couple more security grab bars near the toilet, it is spacious and comes with a sufficient shower chair. The staff is friendly, assistive, and attentive. CONS The location is not what you would call touristy, it is located within the governmental district, which means not within walking distance of any attraction, sightseeing, or shopping. Because of the location you’ll need to get in or out by car, call it taxi, Uber or your own. Also because of the location, so packed with government offices, the area feels deserted after 6PM and on weekends. Not sure how that plays on security. Regarding the handicapped room, it is only a 1-queen size-bed room, somehow an inconvenient considering handicapped guest rarely travel alone. A 2-bed room option would be highly desirable. Finally, not sure if for safety or aesthetics or any other functional end, but there is a huge spotlight-like light illuminating the building’s façade that becomes greatly annoying when at the handicapped room -which is located on level 1. Yes, the shades do block such light, but if they open even slightly, the amount of light pouring in is huge!!!

I needed a hotel for a night when all my to-go places went up like crazy due to some useless concert event in Puebla so I left my 5Star place (yes I am cheap sometimes) just for this Saturday night and found this one on orbitz for like 20$. Ok, it’s situated in the beginnings of Analco ,one of Puebla’s founding neighborhoods from the 1500s but unfortunately they never cleaned it up ever after since then. The neighborhood looks worse than a Brazilian favela (yes I’ve been lots of times to Brazil) .This hotel used to be a capital o before now it’s been renovated and inside pretty much acceptable. Got an economy room (really nothing to brag about) and was happy to have avoided the 300$ room in my other hotel. Well, outside it’s an old street from the 1600s and earlier, half of the street is in ruins, not joking, looks like a war zone. Berlin looked better in 1945. There are 2 buildings standing,one is the hotel. It’s dirty and more than neglected outside, the hotel itself is like an old estancia inside with all the rooms having windows which face to the inner court. To be honest you don’t want to see the dump outside anyway. The reception guys efficient and fast, the girl very helpful, she got me a fan (yes,no air conditioning inside,no problem in October but during summer certainly an issue ) and ask for the faster wifi connection as my room (106) didn’t get the normal signal quite well. You get 2 bottles of water and some soap . As I said ,for 20$ it’s a deal, if it’s higher try another place. I would come back, but not for more than a day. The only issues was there were hardly any power outlets for anything. Glad I always bring my power multiple jack extension cord with me.Without this you’d be in trouble. The room was small ,maybe 15m2 but very clean. It was actually quiet although I read the reviews of noisy drunken guests before .So I was happy I never got those. Well, as I mentioned acceptable for the price I paid. Enjoy Puebla.

Everything was perfect, but I was always asking them to put extra bottles of water in the room (( they didn’t)) and once I called reception to ask for water he say (( we are running out of drinking water, you have to buy in the shop near 24/7)) what is wrong with you guys??? No water??? Are you serious??

Very comfortable and spacious room, with modern finishes. I spent very little time there because I only used it to get to sleep; However, everything was very good. Breakfast is included, and although it is nothing outstanding, it seems adequate to me. Overall, the hotel is quite well maintained and very clean looking. Widely recommended.

Generally good. Including that they have a lactose-free milk option at the buffet. The person who was outside only told me where the reception was - which was closed - but with both hands occupied by the suitcases, it is difficult to open it (since it has a knob) and they do not help you open it despite seeing that you have your hands busy, I considered it a minus point to the hospitality. It would be nice if there was a plaque explaining what the hotel was previously. What is that chimney and what was it used for, etc., as well as they have signs of what the fauna is called. Thank you.

Firstly, we were surprised to see, by hotel signage, that it was a Marriott property or we would have communicated with Marriott directly as we are members. Upon arrival I was pressured by front desk staff to submit a deposit ”just in case we made charges”, we knew we would not have any charges yet after the pressure I complied (I did speak to the Manager who cancelled the charge on our last day). We had a double queen bed room, the beds were comfortable, the A/C was the noisiest I've ever heard, louder than the TV unless the volume was raised a lot, it was also difficult to set the desired temperature and if you turned it off (it was always cold! no matter how much we fiddled with it) the room was super stuffy since there are no windows that open. The bathroom was ok yet had no ventilation and the extractor was not working plus the towels were some of the roughest I've ever experienced. Some of the lights in the room were not operating. All the above we did not complain above, they are just what was in the room during our stay. The one thing we did complain about was the TV system in place, we travel a lot and bring our media equipment for nights spent in, like Fire TB, etc. We also have several online media services which we maintain and use all over the world, like VPN, HBO, Amazon Prime, Netlix, YouTube, etc. While the TV in room can allow you to view Netlix and YouTube, you will not be able to access any other service nor use any of your own media devices. I know several families that bring along video consoles for their children to keep them entertained for example, but the system in this hotel is blocked to any devices from your cell phone or any external device and while we don't have children, having to watch Mexican on air programs (and we are 100% fluent) is not my idea of entertainment. HBO shown on their system does not correspond to any of the descriptions shown on the guide. When I brought this issue up to Management they just said ”Oh, yes we do block all content”. It's a small detail but when most people own more than a few devices, it's very close minded of them. At least they don't charge additionally for Internet which Marriott is known to do.... The restaurant on the main floor was another disappointment as the food was completely without flavor and /or salt, for a Puebla offering is not good at all. We paid for the breakfast buffet at $250 per person. They had someone on the grill making eggs (worst Huevos Rancheros ever!), quesadillas, chalupas, etc. The ”guisados” a beef and potatoes one and a chicken one are best skipped. The beans just ok, the coffee was dark water and while they have an espresso machine it was not in operation. So had juice and some mini pastries which were good. We were never tempted to order room service as offerings in town are much better and many are cheaper as well. The hotel is about 15 minutes to Puebla's catedral. About 10 to Cholula. About 20 to the airport. I choose the hotel due to the great reviews and the location. The front desk staff were very helpful. The bellman brought my luggage to the room right away. The room was clean, the beads comfortable, like any 5 star hotel room. The breakfast was the best continental I have ever had. I have stayed at many hotels, Hyatt, Hilton, etc,. This one has the best breakfast. The hotel front desk/lobby is located on the 2nd floor. The entrance is on the rear part of the mall. If you forgot something you can buy it downstairs inside the mall.

A little better than the hotel chain, certainly not up to 4 stars in the country, but the environment is relatively good compared to that place, next to the Outlets, convenient to eat. No slippers and toothbrush toothpaste. The biggest problem is that the hot water is too slow for 10 minutes, as if it is only at night and in the morning, the temperature is unstable.
