We stayed at Ambre Mauritius for 10 days, and unfortunately, our experience was far from what we expected. Check-in & Luggage Security Concerns When we arrived early, our room wasn’t ready until 14:00, which isn’t necessarily an issue, but something to be aware of if you arrive before check-in time. We were given a space to change and told we could leave our luggage with the hotel staff because, in their words, “You are on holiday and don’t need to worry, we will deal with it.” However, when our luggage was eventually delivered to our room, our shoes were stolen. The hotel initially reassured us that there was CCTV coverage, only for us to find out that the luggage storage area is not covered by cameras. So, if you need to leave your luggage before check-in, be extremely cautious. Service: Disorganized and Discriminatory The service here was absolutely atrocious. The hotel works on what they openly describe as a “consumption basis”, which is painfully evident. • During every meal, we were asked 4-5 times for our room number, yet nobody ever took our order. • We had to fetch our own cutlery every morning and evening because the staff wouldn’t set the table properly. • Getting a drink at the pool was nearly impossible—no staff approached us for orders, but they repeatedly asked for our room number. • At the bar, we were aggressively told to “sit down, someone will come to take your order,” but nobody ever did. Even with only four guests and seven staff members present, the employees stood around chatting and laughing amongst themselves, ignoring customers. We also noticed a clear difference in how guests were treated. Elderly white couples were served quickly, while others (including us) were ignored. This bias was both frustrating and disappointing. Long Waits & Lack of Basic Amenities The wait times for drinks were absurd, and the hotel does not provide free bottled water. If you want water, you must wait to be served a cup, which, as mentioned, can take forever. Even tipping didn’t improve service, as the staff simply never returned to take orders. Food & Atmosphere The food itself was good, but expect to eat your meals without a drink since getting one takes longer than finishing your plate. Additionally, the main restaurant is unbearably hot and humid, as it is open on all sides with live cooking stations. Final Verdict This hotel’s service is one of the worst I have ever encountered. The disorganization, lack of attentiveness, and selective treatment of guests made for a frustrating experience. I cannot recommend Ambre Mauritius to anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. Be prepared to say your room number about 30 times a day due to the hotel not having bands like every other all inclusive. It can’t be because guests complained since all other hotels do it. Most likely due to them needing to track every single item you consume to your specific room.
