Emiliano Rio

Copacabana Rio de Janeiro|0.05km from BeerLab
I have stayed at this property for 3 nights. I was meant to stay for 6 but I have decided to change plans. Overall I found my stay disappointing. Pre-arrival: good communication through WhatsApp and Booking.com On arrival: not a good experience - duplicate preauthorisation from my card for the 6 nights plus extra. The terminal did not produce a receipt and the receptionist insisted I have to put the card through again, although I have shown her an instant message received from the bank saying the transaction went through. At that point, I have been traveling for 18 hrs therefore I couldn’t spend more time arguing about it. I was reassured it was not a duplicate payment/preauthorisation and if any mistake, this will be sorted in the morning with “finance team”. Next day, I have tried to sort this with various reception staff to no avail. They simply denied there is an issue and refused to discuss the matter further. At one point, I was standing in front of the reception being ignored. I have contacted the bank in the UK and they sent me a confirmation that finally led them to cancel one of the duplicate payments. I have wasted an entire day of my holiday on this. Reception staff - with some exceptions- are very cold and distant, even arrogant. Very rare you see someone smile and make you feel welcome. No apology was offered to me for the mixup with the payment and the very unprofessional way this was dealt with. Staff enters the room way too much. Morning and evening service is expected, however “room service” knocked my door at 8-9pm every evening. If the door is not locked, they enter the room. I would advise to have the “do not disturb” sign on at all times, should you want some rest. Breakfast - not included. Even to use the coffee machine in the room, you have to pay for the capsules. It’s not about money, it just leaves a bad impression I think. The room - nice, good facilities, nice bed, shower and the beach view lovely from the large terrace. Panoramic view of Copacabana, as long as the room is on a higher floor. The pool/beach - haven’t used the pool but the beach is service is very good, friendly and helpful staff and comfortable sun beds. In conclusion, I won’t be returning. I have been to Rio many times and there are much better places to stay in various areas. Although Emiliano looks nice, they are a far cry from what I experienced in other hotels in terms of hospitality and adjusting to individual needs and expectations. I didn’t feel treated like a valued customer and I felt quite uncomfortable throughout my stay.

What does it feel like when you come back home, where everyone knows your name, is always available for whatever queries and needs and where you feel you belong? After many stays at Grand Mercure, prior to and during the revamping, this is indeed home for me! A taxi from Santos Dumont airport takes some 20-25min and costs less than 50 reais. Don't accept to pay more than 100 reais taking a taxi from the international airport, there are many crooks there! On the metre and with no traffic, the ride shall be around 80 reais; on weekdays and before 9, heavy traffic into town may raise the cost. Bear in mind that only in Rio taxis are allowed to charge per item of luggage, 3 reais a piece. Also, make sure to inform the driver that the entrance is at Souza Lima 48 (side street), not at Atlântica. The hotel consists of three blocks, B and C are ready and A, the one with frontal view, is to be inaugurated in less than a year's time, so we hope! That's where the pool is, on the top floor, that's why the hotel doesn't offer one for the moment, but the beach service is available at no cost. A ramp for wheelchairs and to roll luggage is missing but that is the only con in the ample and welcoming reception. Felipe, Lucas, Ellen and Patrícia do a splendid job there, always with a genuine smile and readiness to any guests' needs. There are different room categories, each found in one block or the other an each with their specificities - make sure to read the details properly and choose the one which suits you, to avoid useless discussions at front desk. The hotel is constantly full, therefore changes aren't as simple and one must stick to what was chosen and booked! The higher in block C, the better, and make sure to get a room with an even ending, so you can wake up with the most magnificent sunset! Rooms are welcoming and spacious but I still miss an armchair and a better working table; having to shift furniture every time is annoying, the interior designer didn't really take that into account. Amenities are of good quality, water heats up quickly (no waste), the shower is powerful enough. Internet works everywhere, including in the smoking zone on the sidewalk. By the way, why not have a tap outdoors, so beachgoers can wash the sand off their feet before entering reception? Breakfast is improvised on the 2nd floor as a result of the build work, one needs to have understanding. In terms of variety, it is indeed plentiful there, with juices, hot dishes, cakes/breads, cheeses, cold cuts and a specific corner for those with some restriction. Danielle, Ana Luz and Nilson shall pamper you with a smile al the time! Banks, supermarkets, shops of all kinds, chemist's, restaurants and all sort of facilities are within walking distance; also you can take the bus to most attractions, the nearest tube station is some 10min away. Last but not least, Maíra and Rodrigo spread attentiveness and generosity, one can always count on them! What else should I say: it's so grand t

Windsor Martinique Copacabana

Copacabana Rio de Janeiro|0.12km from BeerLab
We stayed at the Windsor Martinique from Dec 23 (evening), 2020 to Jan 2 (evening) 2021. Our trip began at a separate hotel as a nightmare and became a dream when we checked in to the Windsor Martinique. We arrived in Rio and caught a cab to our hotel (NOT the Windsor Martinique) only to find that it had closed due to a Covid-19 outbreak. The hotel had booked us a room elsewhere and we were taken there. The new hotel was horrible. It was dirty, in an area of town we didn't want to be in, the bed folded like a taco when sat on, etc. We contacted our travel agent back home and she found the Windsor Martinique. We checked out of the new hotel and headed to the Windsor Martinique. We arrived and immediately felt at ease when we pulled up to a hotel with guards by the door, close to the beach, with a cozy looking clean lobby and smiling men at check-in. Wesley and Sergio were at the front desk. They had busboy, Celso take us to the room to see if it was adequate prior to accepting the room and checking-in. The room was beautiful. It was clean, had a working AC, comfortable bed, and was a corner room with view to the Copacabana beach. We immediately returned downstairs and checked-in. We enjoyed talking with Wesley. He spoke immaculate English and shared some of his previous work history aboard a cruise ship. He and Sergio put us at ease with their friendliness. We came downstairs and had a late dinner in the restaurant. Our server was Luis was wonderful. Our pizza's were delicious. The following morning we came downstairs for breakfast (it was included) and met Aylin and Claudio at the front desk. We also met a new busboy, Celestino. Again, we were immediately at ease. We went in to breakfast and seated ourselves. To protect guests, we pointed or said what we desired in the buffet and were served by the wait staff (they wore gloves). Our morning servers were Flavio and Rafael. The food was plentiful and delicious. We did a couple of tours which were offered by the hotel and enjoyed them immensely. They included an all-day tour of the city (including Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf Mtn., Selaron Stairs, etc). We also did a half-day tour in the Tijuca Forest. We also chose to eat dinner elsewhere one evening when I was craving Fettuccini Alfredo. Elaine at the front desk recommended a restaurant that she and her husband frequent. We loved it there. It is always a delight to enjoy places frequented by locals instead of just tourists. The alfredo was also super cheesy and divine. For New Years, much of Copacabana closed down and guests had to have proof they belonged there if they went out to enjoy festivities. The Window Martinique gave guests bracelets. We chose to stay in and watch the festivities unfold from our window. Our final day we checked out late as had red eye flight home. My husband had been searching for an old coin that is no longer used and Celestino brought two to the room for him. You should have

Rio Design Copacabana Hotel

$ 130 Overcharged on holidays and dumped after – Really Mr. Miranda (General Manager)?! What kind of review do would you expect, after your credit card would have been overcharged with $ 130? What else would you think if the management couldn’t care less about you and doesn’t reimburse you? It can happen to you too, well done and welcome to Rio Design Hotel in Brazil. We booked our holiday's right amount the peak of the great Brazilian Carnival. Our “Executive Suite” did not reflect the $ 1200 we paid for. The furnishing of our room looked and felt overaged, more like out of a movie from the '90s. Breakfast was ok but in a very small room. Impossible to host all the guest. We always came late to avoid the main crowd. The service was friendly while trying to deal with all the request. The breakfast selection was ok, but nothing special. We had better in other Brazilian hotels. Like I said the hotel service staff was friendly, but the supervisor and management couldn’t care less. The moment you were asking questions, you could already feeling their patience level decreasing. Lack of empathy and customer service skills including. They shouldn’t work in customer service if they make a guest feel they hate their jobs. Especially in Brazil, where people are usually relaxed and friendly towards tourist. Anyways, we left the hotel with mixed feelings. But the surprise came afterwards. As we received our next credit card statement the hotel overcharged an extra amount of $ 130. We contacted booking several times, also wrote several E-Mails and called on our own cost. Just to hear, we look into it - That’s it. The general manager Mr. Miranda did need to respond after submitting the claim to our travel portal. However, that’s it. After I never heard from the Rio Design Hotel again and our money is gone. All in all, I can't recommend this hotel at all, the price value is not in proportion at all. If you prefer customer service skip the Rio Design Hotel. If you don’t want to get overcharged like us or lose $ 130 Dollars extra you should stay away from this place. A funny side note, after leaving Brazil my credit card was used twice to pay for goods in Rio. Besides the hotel, we never used the credit card at all. So seems someone from the hotel shared our credit card details. Probably a last customer gift from the Rio Design Hotel! Thanks for nothing. We will not come back!

This hotel is situated in easy access to the beach and restaurants. As a hotel the staff are friendly but the place could do with a refit . Its tired and worn out. If you have a room at the front then forget sleep the noise from the main road makes you feel you are sleep on the main road. We moved and that was much better at the back. I wouldn't stay here by choice again.

The staff is so helpful and really care about their guests. They help you with everything. Especially ISABELLA was so nice to me, helped me scan some stuff. I presuaded it a lot! I think, it‘s a good place to base yourself in Rio. It‘s close to the beach and I never felt unsafe to walk around this area alone as a woman. There‘s enough space in kitchen area to meet new people. The rooms are a little narrow, but it‘s okay. Found everytime a free showe or bathroom and it‘s clean. The kitchen is not super equipped, but you have fridges and it‘s enough. Thank you, Solar Hostel😊

I arrived way too early for check in but reception was so welcoming, they offered me my welcome drink and accommodated my early check in request and got me a room a floor beneath the rooftop pool and bar! Which meant I was a flight of stairs away from the captivating views of Copacobana Beach and direct pool access. Made it up to my room right as the sun was peeking to rise and captured my first beautiful priceless moment in Rio de Janeiro! Everything about this hotel is premiere! The service is impeccable and any complaints or issues are dealt with right away. The concierge staff is always readily available for advise on things to do or places to eat depending on your tastes and acquiring bookings for activities for non Portuguese speakers like myself was effortless! Breakfasts are well attended to and their spread is admirably top notch! Rooftop bar staff are very efficient and courteous as well! Just top notch everything! This hotel is so worth the long review because of how everything is executed by them! They truly deserve their five star rating and there is no doubt in my mind that when I come back to Rio, I’ll definitely choose Miramar by Windsor Copacobana!
