First time in Davao and Samal Island. The location is very near the wharf. The staff were friendly and helpful.Woke up very early and they were already cleaning the pool and surrounding areas for the guests. We had a good time in the pool and a little walking in the beach.

Club Samal is a small resort with a nice pool, but had a tiny beach. The food is very simple and basic, the bigger hardly counts as a buffet as there were 10 dishes or so in total. Can't complaint given the price but overrated and overhyped based on all the media advertising

Checked in october 13, 2024 around 02.00 Garden by the bay. I expect less people since its sunday and I want peace of mind. Waited for the 02 pm transfer and by surprise there were foreigners too with the 02.00 pm boat transfer. Sadly Filipinos and foreigners are not on the same boat. Filipino guests stay with the BANGKA and foreigners went with the speed boat! Oh, very accommodating, Is it because foreigners pay more? We have the same room by the way 302, 303 and we stay in 301. I have never been humiliated by this kind of services. I have stayed in luxury hotels such as six senses, pullman, le merriedien, marriot and even aman and yet here we are, club samal with plenty of restrictions. Decided to have dinner and guess what, we are not allowed to have dinner by the beach bar since it is only available by the sad empty main restaurant on the second floor. It is available with 15000 php set up on the beach, they allow it for free though for snacks and stuff which I find annoying. You can serve pizza and burger by the beach but cannot serve dinner? Same menu is used by the bar and the main restaurant. Nakaloko? It was not full, and are service personnel only doing this touse one facility since it is not busy? Well nothing I can do since its their rules. Tbh, maximizing more facilities would cater more revenue. PROS Bar personnel where great! Had fun with the cocktails during the afternoon and the services were good. Room, amenities were great, bed comfy, bathroom clean and the room itself is nice. Cannot compare to 5 star resort but not bad for a hotel in samal. Well, the general manager should have their Training manager train their team members more. Sad, the hotel is nice but the servives is not up to par. I do not mind spending money for food and drinks. Guess will try next time once you decide to read this review and improve. REMOVE your double standard services for FOREIGNERS. FILIPINOS can pay too. Remember majority of your guest are local travellers and not FOREIGNERS.

We stopped here for lunch. We were staying at the Chemas, up the beach. Needless to say we were upset that we had not booked at Club Samal. Much newer and nicer. Food tasty and reasonably priced. We ate for 7 people for same price of 4 in Chemas. Better than paradise island as it has lovely pool.

It was my first time to visit Davao and this was the first place I visited with my partner. They have free boat transfer every weekend and Philippine holidays, which we availed since we went their during the end of Ramadan. Staff were friendly and consistently greets us. Facilities were all well-maintaned. Beachfront was small as compared to others, but enough to enjoy the sea. Highly-recommended! Will go back here if given an opportunity.

The initial welcome was very good for a hotel of this kind. The room was okay although a coat of paint would make it more pleasing than scuff marks everywhere. The lighting was stark - recessed bright bulbs do not give the right ambiance when no dimming. There is a lack of reading lamps above the bed (yes people do still read). The aircon unit was very noisy at night - this appears to be dependant on the make. Although we were out for a whole day on our return the room had not been made up and tea/coffee went un- replenished. Given the market this hotel is aiming for this was a huge disappointment. The in house meals weee good but there is a lack of consistency with staff service which could be improved.

I'd give this a zero star if I could. absolutely one of my worst hotel experiences I've ever had, and I travel alot. First of all, we did not receive a welcome drink like any other person who would check in. Not that we care much but it's just a bad start. Then, our additional bed had no real blanket, just a sheet, while the normal beds had thick comforters. How would this work exactly with AC on? They would want to charge extra for a comforter, even if we already paid extra for a bed, and another extra for a person. They do not make up your room, unless requested personally. WHAT? Who does that. Is 7500 pesos a night not worth enough to at least fix the room on a daily basis? Should we shower in the same towels, walk on sandy tiles, for a week? People swim with full on clothes, jeans even, but the rules clearly state "proper swimwear required", however, the staff doesnt give a single cent about that, just like almost anything that guests do there. Also, loud JBL speakers they don't mind, even if it blasts other people's eardrums out. Even after complaining, the staff would not bother telling them to shut down the speaker as THIS IS A RESORT and not a public beach. Waiters insist that their menu has wrong items listed after delivering wrongful and missing food. Then on valentines evening, which was a huge reason for us that we chose this place, in house guests were not included in the program, only outsiders. We were not allowed to partake, instead, we were seated somewhere aside from the main program that had a nice set up. i mean, What the actual F*. They charge us corkage for a late night alcoholic bevarage brought inside. However, locals can bring theirs and bring in KFC and jollibee, even cakes is okay. Absolute discrimination. These people simply do not care about their guests, especially if you stay longer than 1-2 nights, they start to dislike you after you give them your complaints or requests. It took a sit down meeting with their manager for it to slightly change on the day before we left. Then the staff suddenly acted like they love us, providing things they'd not even bother bringing up prior to this. Sorry, at that point the damage was already done and we did not care. Never again. If we could we would have checked out after 2 nights. Terrible, just Awful.

Our group decided to take the boat service from their wharf as the Samal ferry boat was a 1/2-3 hour wait each way. The hotel is fairly new and looks great with its all-white exterior and interiors. The food wasn't bad at all and the buffet service we had during our meeting and stay was quite good. However, do not stay in rooms 119-122 if you want to get a good night's sleep or if you are planning to sleep in. Their restaurant is above these rooms and despite the rooms being priced at a premium since they open straight to the pool, the noise of tables and chairs being re-arranged to accommodate the diners woke us up at 4 am and by 6 am. The ceiling of the rooms/floor of the restaurant are not noise-proof at all. The tables and chairs being dragged upstairs can be heard downstairs in the rooms and can wake even the heaviest sleeper. Also, the shower area wasn't built right- the water wasn't draining at all and left a pool of water which can be very slippery as it wouldn't dry. We also asked for additional water for the 2nd day and expected at least 2 more bottles of water but sadly, they give you the smallest bottles. And we didn't get any new bottles of water the following day. After asking for more water to replace our 2 small bottles, we were given a jug of water instead which was filtered water so it was okay. The price of the room we stayed in was more expensive than our room at the Shangri-la Hotel where the facilities and rooms were more upscale. It might not be on the beach but you can get a better night's sleep and comes with a free gym, bigger pool plus wet floors (steam sauna), dry sauna plus a jacuzzi and cold pool, all free. Despite our disappointment with being roused from our sleep at the unholy hour of 4am, kudos to Club Samal for their friendly staff and their very clean rooms and environment, as well as their live entertainment and beach-side dining experience at night which made our stay special.
