Hotel Gibbs

The rooms are very nice great location. The only thing I would say is that the plumbing is a little loud.

We really enjoyed our stay in this historic hotel located literally across the street from The Alamo and a short walk to the River Walk. Great staff and very comfortable and attractive room. The only draw back was the $45 a night parking (but high priced parking is common in the area).

This hotel is immaculate and has decent rates especially the King Corner Suites. Checking in the attendants the two ladies who have checked me in were absolutely wonderful felt like you were coming home with the grandest welcome. (I have stayed twice at this hotel. Eclectic Bar wonderful atmosphere and crafted beers and excellent wine selection. HG offers free breakfast and it’s a culinary experience. Restaurant excellent chef and his specialty in the craft of creating meals out of this world. Thenroooms BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO and exceptional cleaning staff, extremely friendly and whatever you need just ask them they well get it for you. The beds and pillows are WOW I wanted to stay in bed the entire day.

I don't write reviews but this experience has compelled me to write my first one. Arriving late in the evening, we traveled up to our room, got off the elevator to a distinct smell of ****. Not great, not ideal but whatever. We were so tired that we just wanted to get into our room and call it a night. Awoke the next morning at around 7am to get our day started. Plugged in the iron provided to find out that it didn't work and proceeded to leak water all over the clothes. Easy fix right? Well, easy fix at any other hotel we have ever stayed at. I called down to the front desk around 745am explaining the situation and the front desk staff said "oh, housekeeping doesn't get here until 9am so I don't have anyone to bring it up to your room." I told her no problem, I'll come downstairs and get it. As soon as I arrive downstairs, the front desk staff told me "thanks, I've left a note for housekeeping to bring you up one at 9am." Excuse me, what? Unacceptable. So one of three things happened here but, I lean more to the fact that all three happened. One, housekeeping has all of the irons locked away in a vault that they only have access to and no other staff. Two, front desk couldn't provide the most basic of customer service and retrieve a working iron for me. Three, she didn't appreciate the way I was questioning why I could not get a working iron so she decided that we were going to be punished and our vacation was now going to revolve around the housekeeper's time. I asked for the GM contact info and refused to give it to me, she actually only gave me an assistant GM email address who didn't answer me back until a few days later. Great. I wasn't even going to write a review including the ridiculous cleanliness conditions of the room but here we are with the pictures of the disgusting room. Dust everywhere, mold in bathroom, non working lights, unknown dirty stuff on the bedframe. I don't understand why we couldn't be taken care of in the first place. Never in our 20+ years of coming to San Antonio have we experienced this and never again will we because we will bypass hotel gibbs.

My family and I visited at the beginning of Summer. I wasn’t wowed when we first got there but that quickly changed. Sarah who worked the desk was very knowledgeable on the history of the hotel and very welcoming. The valet was also very eager to help. Now I read in another post that at times they were low staffed and one time it did take us 30 min to get our car, however I also noticed guests telling them they called or came down and asked for car in person. But if you follow their process and go to the like they provide to request your car at least 15-20 in advance their usually isn’t an issue. That 30 min wait? We forgot to request it. The valet team Manuel, Jose and Molly were very helpful during our stay. The breakfast was impressive too as some places have their own fancy restaurant which makes it hard to find something at high price. Gibbs keeps it simple with buffet style eggs, meats, biscuits and gravy, and waffles as well as quick grabs like yogurt. They even add a San Antonio dish, carne guisada with tortillas. Someone mentioned the A/C being too loud. Yes as the air comes on a little loud but quiets down 5 sec later. Didn’t bother me when sleeping. My family and I sleep with house freezing. We were excited to see that this hotel A/C was able to go below 70 degrees unlike many hotels I’ve been. We slept comfortably at 66 degrees. We raised to 70 during the day. The down side for my wife was water pressure in the shower. We would definitely stay again. Such ideal location with view of the Alamo Plaza and Rivercenter Mall just on the other side. It is 15 min from airport. Didn’t think to take picture of the hotel but here is a look at hallway and our view.

Tue place is old and the hallways noisy. The air conditioner was very noisy turning on and off and did not consistently keep the room cool. The maid service did not replenish the coffee and supplies, coffee cups, water cups and even Kleenex tissues after the first night. Breakfast was good.

Very nice hotel centrally located next to the Riverwalk with easy direct access to the walk and shops. Hotel was very nice and offered a rooftop pool and gym. Area felt safe at all times by the Riverwalk. Hotel was affordable and had very comfortable beds .
