Hotels in Dukezong Ancient City, Shangri-La

I have stayed in many hotels in Shangrila old town over the past 12 years so have a little experience. Location: Close to the top dancing square but at the top of a very steep hill. It had rained so the stone street was VERY slippery. It is close to impossible to walk up the hill with suitcase. There is a 1/2 meter wide ***** of carpet that was laid down on the right side of the road going up the hill. It gave great traction, but unfortunately some non-thinking person had parked their electric cart directly on top of the carpet so you could not navigate it. I arrived at 6 PM and that electric cart was still sitting on the carpet in the same place the next morning at 9 AM. Trying to walk around the electric cart , but I did slip and fell to the ground. I would not come back to this hotel again, if there was any potential for any rain. The picture is of the morning after the rain had dried. When I booked my room, they did tell me that there was only one room remaining and it was for four people. I was solo but I booked it anyway. Unfortunately, I did not understand that there are four beds that are actually side-by-side touching each other. They are very very thin pads laid on top of a wooden platform. No way to get into or out of any bed without crawling back to the foot of the bed and going over the edge that way. It was the hardest sleeping service I have ever been on and got very little sleep. If I had my sleeping bag and camping mattress, I would’ve just slept on the floor. Won’t be back here again. The service people at the hotel were very nice. Offered to carry my bag up to my room on the third floor and the woman who provided the breakfast in the morning was very pleasant. Have no complain about the service just the beds in the access to the hotel. If it’s raining, make it a no go for me

I highly recommend this inn. The owner of the inn is very nice and enthusiastic, and the service is very good. He also reminded us of some things to pay attention to on the first day we arrived. After going out for a while, we felt there were signs of a cold. The owner also prepared cold medicine and room facilities. The equipment is very good. You can see the obvious buildings in the city center from the window of the room. The room has floor heating and it is not far from Moonlight Plaza.

This suite is the most comfortable suite I have ever stayed in a B&B, including the most comfortable suite in a hotel. The room facilities are very complete. The bathtub is also very comfortable. There are many clothes for the children to play with. The bathroom is also equipped with a washing machine. It is really considerate and clean in terms of hygiene. The hotel staff are also very attentive. Tremella soup and hot milk are delivered to the room. The hotel is also very close to the prayer wheel, which is very convenient for travel!

A very satisfying stay experience~ The service is meticulous and thoughtful. The store directly opens a WeChat group chat and responds promptly to any questions. It also provides services such as pick-up and drop-off, travel guide suggestions, etc. It is really convenient for out-of-town tourists. The transportation location is convenient, just near the east gate of Dukezong Ancient City. It is very convenient to walk and take a taxi. The room facilities are complete. It is still very cold in Shangri-La in December, but the room has floor heating and a fireplace, which is very friendly to people who are afraid of the cold. There is also a smart home

location is great for the town and Nappa Hai Lake which was awesome.A beautiful hotel full of culture. Beds are the comfiest in the world! Carol on reception was superb and help us out of a very stressful situation when the airport was closed because of snow. We were exceptionally grateful for her excellent english skills. Mark the waiter/ noodle chef was also extremely helpful. He spoke no English but was very patient with my Chinese. Many staff were off sick with covid as it was a few days after restrictions were lifted when we visited. Still everyone was working twice as hard to cover their colleagues. This lead to one of our rooms not being cleaned one day. Not the end of the world. Thanks for a lovely stay.

I came to Yunnan for 11 days and stayed in five B&Bs in total, and this one was the most satisfactory to me. First of all, the style of the room is simple Japanese style, with plenty of natural light, making it very bright and spacious. Each room is also equipped with comfortable and complete facilities - oxygen concentrator, floor heating, humidifier, smart toilet, etc. The location of the B&B is also very convenient and superior, right next to Guishan Park, but it is very quiet because it does not face the main street. The B&B is run by a very kind couple and their interesting son. Before we arrived at Shangri-La, the little brother contacted us in advance and helped us transport our luggage to the B&B by tricycle when we arrived. The breakfast at the B&B was also very nutritious and delicious. I finished eating it for two days in a row 😋 The lady boss was also very enthusiastic and kept asking us if we were full. If we were not enough, we could always add more. It’s so warm and feels like home here! All in all, if you have the opportunity to come to Shangri-La, don’t miss this treasure B&B!

Hotel Indigo has a spectacular bird eye view of the Shangrila town, the room has the view of the temple in the Dukezong Ancient Town. The hotel is very new and the staffs are super friendly, especially Cyrus Pan who did helped me a lot of some miscellaneous things though the stay just only 1 night. Room is clean and spacious. The restaurant served amazing food with much comfortable environment than restaurant in the ancient town. I can say a hotel must stay in Shangrila and definitely I would return if visit to Shangrila again.

The hotel is in a great location, close to the center of the ancient city and the online taxi pick-up point, and the environment is quiet. The first floor is the Tea Horse Road Museum, and the third floor overlooks the ancient city, the Sutra Barrel, and the Big Buddha Temple. The staff is very responsible. There is no elevator in the house in the ancient city. Whether it is when we come or when we leave, the staff will help us move. The floor heating in the room heats up slowly, and the staff will deliver the heater as soon as we enter the room. The oxygen concentrator will also patiently teach us how to use it. We were also given Hada!

A clean, affordable and homely place in the old town of Shangri-la. The owner is very welcoming and the staff are all friendly - including the cats and dogs! Stayed three nights and was provided with a lot of useful local information via wechat. On the final day, I was given a small parting gift and a free lift to the airport! Lovely people - I would stay again if I return there.
