We got a recommendation to eat here for lunch. Hot day sat outside. Pub dates back to 1585 so the building has steps uneven floors low ceilings etc. amazing history. Large order on a Saturday and we gave them no notice. Variety of requests and every type of dietary requirement appears to be covered here. Reasonable priced. Food arrived efficiently. They allow you to eat here and then settle afterward. Have a lockable box to store bank card where you hold the key. The variety and quality of food was amazing. I expect as a freehold independent free to make own choices this is what allows so much creativity. The beer was local and very fresh. No one left anything on plates. To read some of the dated reviews on here would put someone off I say come down and try it for yourselves. We are coming back next year for sure if not sooner.

We came for a family meal a few weeks ago. The young members of staff who served us were incompetent and unfriendly. The toilets were both dirty and messy, with an overflowing bin in the ladies and a strong smell of urine. The food was very expensive for pub food-it was nice but with everything else that wasn’t good it’s a place I couldn’t recommend. Shame as it’s in a lovely location in a pretty village
