Scandic Gamla Stan

The hotel itself is in major need of renovation, it’s extremely dated and falling apart. I booked a single room which was small as to be expected, the bed was very uncomfortable so much so I had back pain for the duration of my stay, the rug on the room floor was falling apart and was very dirty, the room was also freezing as the radiator didn’t work and window let in a lot of draft. When I mentioned this to the front desk, from their response it seemed we’re already aware of the problem but gave me the room anyway, the excuse was “it’s because the room is in the corner” this shouldn’t make any difference and a paying guest should be be expected to sleep in the cold. I was given a (cheap) electric heater by the hotel receptionist to plug in the room, it was also broken and was tripping a lot and was dangerous to use as it was an electrical hazard. The breakfast was average, nothing fancy but nothing terrible it was included in the price so better than paying because it would not be worth it otherwise in my Opinion. The location is good, in the heart of the old town and most things are walkable from there. The staff at the hotel (besides the radiator issue) were friendly and willing to make sure the stay was a good one so for customer service besides the above I commend them but otherwise the whole experience would not have me returning there.

We've stayed in hotels throughout Europe and none were better than the Scandic Gamla Stan...the cost was reasonable, the room size and bathroom size very good. But the best quality was the staff. They were very helpful, courteous, and always cheerful. I highly recommend Scandic Gamla Stan.

Excellent position to visit old city and next to undergroun which allows you to visit the city easily.

Lovely quaint hotel right in the old town. Can walk everywhere from here. The staff were wonderful. Room was small but adorable. Breakfast was a wonderful treat. The only negatives were that there were no usb ports or US outlets and that there is no free coffee or even water in the lobby ( you could get it for a fee) and no coffee maker or hot water for tea in the room. Otherwise a great experience.

This hotel was ideal for us. A brilliant location for metro, water transport, exploring the old town and for choice of nearby restaurants

The location in Gamla Stan is perfect - a less than 5 min walk to the metro & close to the ferries as well, yet a quiet street away from the crowded tourist route. Rooms in the historic hotel are small, but the bathrooms are modern with great shower pressure. No a/c, but we didn't need it in early August (and they provide a fan.) Buffet breakfast was included and had many choices. The roof deck is spacious & pretty! Would definitely return!
