Hotels Near St. Mark＇s Church in Sydney

I wish that Trip Advisor would have a ”Good” rating between ”Average” and ”Very Good” as this place perfectly fits that criteria. Sure, the building is dated and faded as a 70s style motel is in 2022 (although I must say it is clean in my experience). On the good side there is lots of parking (very handy for travellers coming to the edges of the Sydney CBD and into the Eastern Suburbs) and a free continental breakfast you make yourself in your room (my room was equipped with a toaster, the usual jug and tea and coffee, as well as a microwave. Furthermore, the motel is in a very handy location close to Edgecliff shops and the train station, so getting into town is a breeze (in a couple of stops you will be in Martin Place). It has an interesting history, so I am told by a long term Eastern Suburbs denizen. Lots of busy traffic out front so watch out for noise and see if you can get something away from the front. To complete this mixed bag, it has very reasonable rates given where it is located.

The food is really bad, the steak is not there yet. At the time of check-out, the female white man at the front desk looked the same as her mother. It was not discrimination. She also had the same attitude towards the white man. I was afraid that she would be the boss lady 🤣🤣🤣. The key point of this intelligent control is that it is completely out of control. The room service in Australia is not 24 hours. There is no need to find someone to clean the toilet after taking a shower at night. Anyway, the service industry in Australia is a sky-high price, and there is no service at all. Do n’t be surprised when you first arrive. After all, foreign countries attach importance to ”human rights”. Cleaning the toilet in the middle of the night will exhaust the foreigners, understand!

Stayed here with my husband and son on the first leg of our Oz journey. We didn’t see a lot of the staff (we didn’t need to) but when we did they were very helpful and courteous and happily helped us out. The room itself was fine for our family of 3 and although the bathroom was small it was perfectly useable. The site of the hotel was great, a 5 min walk to King’s Cross station, 20 minute walk to Paddington and 10 minutes to Rushcutters Bay. A great little hotel that is a perfect base for exploring

We stayed here in early January and chose it based on its value for money and proximity to the Sydney Cricket Ground (as we went to the cricket). It was a nice walk from our hotel to the SCG, and the hotel itself was lovely - friendly staff, clean room and yummy breakfast on offer. I'd highly recommend for those on a budget as this hotel has everything you need. We didn't check out the busy Greek restaurant adjacent, that's for another trip!

I’ve noticed aggressive feedback below and I want to advocate this awesome place. I’ve stayed in the room in March and then In June with my partner.I confirm that WiFi requires attention since it’s too too poor but I’m glad that while I was here, the management has been working on that issue. That’s true that Reception isn’t 24/7 but this is Boutique Hotel for people who aren’t familiar with term, it doesn’t mean luxury all inclusive Conrad by Hilton hotel that’s why don’t expect room service, 24/7 front desk service, towel swans and etc. In addition, beautiful and friendly ladies at the reception go extra miles to ensure that you feel comfortable and like at home. The room isn’t big but stylish if you’d like more space go for room with balcony and you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea,which you may find at the reception complimentary, early in the morning looking at the Potts Point. Besides, LOCATION, this is the best,the most convenient location in Sydney! You can walk to Opera House,CBD or get the train to Bondi Beach staying away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Also, Potts Point has a soul and you may be bewitched by the spirit of this area. To sum up, don’t hesitate about the hotel, it’s gem of the area and you can definitely enjoy the time here if you don’t expect more than the hotel positioned itself. P.S. I stayed here this week for four nights. I have stayed at many hotels across Sydney, but Hotel Challis is now at the top of my list. Super quiet location, clean air conditioned rooms. Wonderful relaxing terrace to sit and chill. Close to fabulous coffee and food, and also the Andrew (Boy) Charlton swimming pool where I swam daily. The manager Nicole and her assistant Victoria are just wonderful. So very kind and excellent communication. I can’t wait to return here, thank you so much Nicole and Victoria for running such a fabulous hospitality operation, and for making my stay absolutely perfect. See you soon.

The good - the location is pretty central and the bed was very comfortable. The ride to/from the airport was about 20 minutes and about 50 dollars Aus. We could book the room for one night on the New Years' weekend and it was ＜ $200 US. The rest - Overall, the Kirketon could use an update. The hotel facility was retrofitted into the building and while this can produce a fun and funky (in a good way) experience, the Kirketon is more funky (in not a good way). The lobby and room furnishings are tired and weird (not in a ”hip” way). The windows are FILTHY. I think the room and bathroom were clean but the lighting is not great. There is no lift so be prepared to carry you and all your stuff up the stairs. Our room was strangely laid out so that there was about 1 foot between the bed and wall and we had to lift our suitcases over the bed to get them to the other side where we could put them down. We also basically had to walk sideways to move through that opening. The bathroom was a long, thin (~12 foot x 2 foot - think bowling lane) ”room” with a small sink at the top of the corridor and toilet at the end with the shower jutting back into the main room on the side.

The best part was when the fish tank maintenance man had a decent chat about the process of cleaning the fish tank that's under the floor in the foyer and taught our children about the fish. The breakfast buffet was a hit with everyone and we struggled to get the children out of the pool.

I stayed at Crown Towers Perth in Sep 2022 and June 2023. I also stayed in Crown Towers Melbourne in Dec 2022. Thus, the next logical move is to stay in Crown Towers Sydney to complete my experience in staying at all 3 Crown Towers Hotel in Australia. I finally did that. Stayed at Crown Towers Sydney from 3 Nov to 8 Nov 2023. Today is 8 Nov 2023 and I will be checking out shortly. I stayed at an opera king room which has views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House. The room was very well lit and nice. Just the appropriate size for a sole traveller. I also managed to try most of the restaurants in Crown Towers Sydney except Yoshii Omakase which is so hard to book and Silks. I did not managed to book Yoshii even when it opened for booking. Guess too many people booking. I tried Epicurean for breakfast, dinner at A’Mare, Nobu, Woodcut and Oncore by Clare Smyth. I did not try Silks since being an Asian Chinese, I normally do not eat Chinese food when I go holiday. Got to try other food instead. My favourite restaurant is undoubtedly Oncore where I ordered the 7 course seasonal tasting menu. Superb. Woodcut was also good where I ordered their sirloin steak. Nobu was also nice as it completed my tour of all 3 Nobu in Australia having previously eaten at Nobu Perth and Melbourne when I stayed at Crown Towers there. For Nobu , I ordered the X Haku Omakase which is 5 course. The star of the course was the lobster. Overall I have enjoyed my stay in here. As Sarah Brightman is coming to Sydney in Aug to Oct 2024, I have already booked my tickets to watch her performance at Sydney Opera House in Sep 2024 and also booked a 4 night stay at Crown Towers Sydney again. For the future, I do hope Crown Towers Sydney can have a Crystal Club for breakfast like what Perth and Melbourne has. Also, hope to see more shops/entertainment areas at Crown and also a provision/gift/snack shop here at Crown Towers Sydney.
