Full of historical character, this hotel is conveniently tucked away in the centre of Tours near the cathedral. The owner and staff are very helpful, there is secure underground parking a short walk away, and an excellent cafe bar next door. Our room was comfortable and adequate for our needs. A good breakfast was offered for a small supplement. We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay. (nb - the rooms are accessed by old steep wooden stairs which might be challenging for guests with mobility issues....)

Historic hotel where author Balzac once lived is literally creaking with character. Its narrow stairs lead to comfortable small rooms. Like many historic hotels there is no lift, because you can’t retrofit large fits to these historic buildings. That’s the price of not staying in a cookie cutter new character free hotel. I liked that the this little hotel has a kind owner who went to a lot of effort to contact me after I left my spare prescription glasses in the room. He happily mailed them to me. I am so grateful! Lovely man. His English is excellent too. He also walked me to a nearby private garage where he locked my bike up and kept it safe. Charge was 5 euro a day. And he took me again to retrieve it when I left. That was great. Used my time to explore chateaus nearby. Loved Chenonceau. It’s an easy 10 minute walk to the train station. And lots of nice restaurants nearby. The ancient part of the city is not far. But it had lots of people. So I was happy in the neighbourhood where Hotel de theatre was located. Felt safe.

Great location in a really charming old building. Loved it, will definitely stay here next time in Tours. The building is amazing, with beautiful ceiling beams and old stone works. The place is looked after very well, everything feels fresh and perfectly clean. And the owner is really friendly and helpful. And speaks great English which was very useful for us with our poor attempts at French 😁

Very positive stay. Very warm welcome, ideal location, pleasant decoration, very good breakfast. The rooms are very quiet. In short, excellent value for money. We will come back ! Nathalie Revol

Cramped room, single glazing overlooking a busy street. The rooms are very poorly soundproofed. No kettle, no coffee unless you still want to pay 4.50 euros per day, in addition to the 88€ for the room. Access inaccessible to people with reduced mobility, low-end mobile air conditioning and to round it all off, a room right in the middle of the breakfast room. It was our only weekend off for a very long time, unfortunately there was nothing relaxing about it.
