I was going to let this bad experience pass but I now feel compelled to share my review. First of all, I spent over 1000 nights here between 2011-2022 for business trips. I came to Wallingford a few times after that but stayed elsewhere. We had stopped staying at the George due to a series of bad experiences. I decided to give it another try and came for 21 nights this month and I can say I won't be coming back and will recommend against it to my coworkers. The only pro for this hotel is the location because there is Waitrose and a wide variety of restaurants that are walking distance, and it is close to Benson Now the cons: - Poor customer service: the agreed rate was 110 pounds/ night without breakfast. Somehow I was charged 125/ night (with breakfast - which I did not take because I thought it was without and I did not want it was working on a late shift). I noticed the error only on my departure. I should have doubled checked right away at the moment that I paid (on arrival) so that is partly my fault. But it feels like I have been tricked because the lady said 110/night and then goes on discretely charging me 2625 two mimutes later ( in advance instead of 2310). I only realized when I saw the detailed statement at checkout. The young lady at the counter was totally uninteressed when I objected. - Checkin is at 14h00 which I understand but usually the hotel staff will make an effort to get the room ready as soon as possible if you are early. But not here... I arrived at 09h00 am. The hotel was far from full that day. The lady told me to come back after 14h00. I had nowhere to go and was very tired so I sat in the lobby and they had me wait until 14h15. My room was the last one to be cleaned because it was the one at the end of the corridor. The wait does not matter because I was early. However in any other hotel they would make an effort to get your room ready firstseeing thqt you have arrived. Parking: the parking is free but the parking spaces are very small. Good thing it was low season. But I knew this already. Just letting you know. Water pressure is very low and the water temperature is dificult to control. If you do come here make sure to get a room in the newer section (rooms 101-109, 201-209 or third floor). You need to be willing to shower iwith water that is either slighly too warm or too cold. The rooms are okay but nothing impressive. Don't expect to be impressed with the rooms. I come here only to sleep. I could go on but those are the main issues for me with the first one being the showstopper.

An exceptionally good hotel. Friendly staff, excellent food and spotlessly clean rooms. Right in the centre of an historic town, with lovely walks and lots of independant shops. This review should contain 200 characters, which is difficult when I've already said everything

We were very pleased with the waitress service and that the table was reserved for my wife and I. It was a birthday present from our niece. We were running late due to traffic but were pleased to see a sign directing to the hotel car park. We quickly got out of the car after parking and rushed into the hotel. But we were not informed by the hotel staff that we had to register our car registration, unlike all of the other hotels we frequent, so just sat down and ate a loverly meal. So we were shocked to receive a car parking fine a few weeks later for £100 or £60 if we paid within two weeks, but the post in Abingdon is awful often getting letters weeks later like this fine. So being to late to pay the £60 I have now had to pay £100 so not impressed by the hotel manager not training his/her staff to inform every customer of registration their car when parking in the hotel car park. So not impress at all.

The Staff are amazing and extremely helpful. I was there for Bunkfest and they took wonderful care of me. I had a great room and comfortable bed. The building his real character. I've already booked for next year. Friday fish and child should not be missed.

Visited for lunch and drinks. Sat in their lovely courtyard and enjoyed a restful hour or so, The location of the pub is good and the staff helpful. There were a good number of other gusts eating lunch and the atmosphere was good. we would return.

Visited for a cream tea at 2pm on 17th August. Service was excellent. Apologies I did not note our servers name. She was very attentive and ensured we had all we wanted at all times. Food itself was plentiful and very tasty. Selection of sandwiches, mini cakes and two fruit scones each with jam and clotted cream. Washed down with tea or coffee of your choice, which seemed to be unlimited. Pub was close to river for walks to work off calories consumed.

This is a very old building, but they have done exceptionally well to maintain it. The rooms were pleasant and beds were very comfortable. We only booked as we had an afternoon tea voucher, which was super. Our waitress was friendly and nothing was too much. On the whole the building was clean and all the staff would bend over backwards to meet all of our needs. Don’t expect the ritz, but do expect a quaint little building with staff that care. We will be back.

The George is a really excellent hotel .We had a nice room with comfortable beds our room was very clean and the hotel is right in the town centre and it's so nice to have a car park in the grounds . It is so nice to see that dogs are welcome and I enjoy the fact that the George has a real family feel.
