The staff has exceptional customer service from the front desk to hospitality! The wine and cheese from 5 - 7 were great to ”wind down” for the day and the cookies and milk from 8 - 9 were so tasty for an evening treat or bedtime snack. My room was LARGE with two levels - queen size bed, a large sofa, a side chair, and a faux fireplace with a space heater to imitate the real deal. The space heater did heat up the room because it was quite chilly. The only complaint I have is that my microwave did not work and it was pretty cold in the rooms but the staff was more than willing to accommodate my needs. The floors creek a lot when people are walking or just settling for the evening. Those little inconveniences will be there with the age of this building but it also speaks to its history...thus the story of Sally the Ghost. I was not afraid of that after reading about her story on my first night there.

This hotel has seen better days-such as back in 1995 perhaps. I've actually stayed here multiple times the last few months because of the location, but this last trip made me decide it's time to move on. I travel every week for work, and some things I look for are: cleanliness of course, soft pillows, decent towels, air conditioning that works, friendly people, walls that aren't paper thin, and rooms that aren't a hot mess. Pros: location, breakfast (though I've never had it), water pressure. Cons: Ever heard of the expression, ”lipstick on a pig?” This describes this hotel perfectly. You enter the lobby and it's beautiful-really is. Apparently they did a remodel. That's where the remodel ends. From the lobby, you enter the 3 elevators. All are nasty. They appear to be more like freight elevators, than elevators that are off a big beautiful lobby. They kind of smell, walls/floor are gross, and you get out of them and generally feel dirty. The rooms are circa 1995. Nothing is updated. Again, I have stayed here probably 5-6 times, so I have seen multiple rooms. The carpets are foul and fraying. The walls are stained up. The bathroom has super old faucets and sprayers, dirt in the corners, and the shower curtain/liner has seen way better days. My last room that finally made me decide to be a little crazy and stay elsewhere next time, had an air conditioning system that banged when it turned on, stayed on for a few minutes, then went off, and would bang again 30 minutes later. This room also had this phone whose picture I attached. All the buttons have been removed and it's filthy. The room I had before this one had an adjoining room. The door adjoining the 2 rooms was missing a lock and wasn't even flush against the wall (picture attached). I bring a door stopper with me on all my trips that I jammed up under this door-the only reason why I had kept the room and I was super tired. Anyway, I will stay at the Hampton a block away or the Courtyard my next trips. Just set your expectations correctly if you stay here.

Basically, the service is average. The air conditioner is too noisy.

This is a decent property right across the street from the convention center in Down Town Winston Salem. Valet parking cost about the same amount as parking in the public garage so I recommend it. The room I was in was updated and in very good condition. I coun't hear any road noise but I was on the 16th floor and that may be why. The front desk was helpful on check in. I can recommend this property. It isn't too pricey and they don't try to add silly destination fees.

I was unable to stay in my over $250 room due to bed bug infestation, which we discovered at 1:30 am when we returned to our room. Bed bugs in the bathroom, along the bed frame, on the desk, in my friend’s bag, in the suite kitchen. I have geotagged photos of the bed bugs. The hotel was fully booked so we knew we would have to find another hotel since we would not stay in an unsanitary, bed bug infested room. We requested a refund at the front desk. The attendant refused the refund, refused to help, refused to give any documentation of my complaint, refused to have anyone check the room or check it himself. He said that reimbursement would have to come through Priceline where I had booked the room. He said I could speak to the manager in the morning (“Brandy”). I requested a form or a way to officially document the issue so that I could share that with Priceline. I had a feeling that the hotel would not reimburse me. The attendant suddenly interrupted me, became aggressive with me, raised his voice, then began yelling and threatened to call police if we did not leave immediately. He continued yelling at me so we left because we felt intimidated. He was not wearing any uniform or name tag. After 3 days of me trying to reach management and Priceline, with multiple desk attendants saying managers were not on the premises, the GM Scott returned my call and said Orkin had inspected the room and found no bed bugs. He refused reimbursement. I am not surprised that after 3 days of the hotel being able to clean the room that Orkin did not find much. Why would I, a customer who just wanted a peaceful night’s sleep and who had already pre-paid the room, lie about bed bugs? We were unable to use the room. We had to drive to Durham and pay for another room. I also noticed that my card was charged twice - once through Priceline and once from Residence Inn. This is fraud. I simply requested full reimbursement for this room which I was unable to stay in due to unsanitary conditions and reached no hotel employees or managers who were sympathetic, apologetic, or in any way helpful.

The staff was very courteous while we stayed here during a snow storm. Housekeeping, front desk staff and Nicole at the Bistro on Sunday night Jan. 16, have done a splendid job. We were very comfortable here and will stay here again. Judith Smith
