Peebles Hydro

We had a great weekend meeting up with family to celebrate a birthday. We appreciated that we could bring our dog and she was made very welcome. The hotel has been sensitively upgraded. Rooms were clean spacious and the beds were very comfortable. Our family room had a separate room for the bunk beds which suited our teenage daughter. The swimming pool was excellent. I liked the separate areas for families and swimmers. There were ample changing rooms, lockers and showers. The Sat evening entertainment ( very talented singer and keyboard player) was excellent and memorable. The Hydro manages to combine comfort and a relaxed vibe in a beautiful setting. Understated elegance. The outstanding feature of the Hydro were the hard working and helpful staff

Our visit was part of a birthday gift for my 87 year old Mum. We arrived on a sunny afternoon and were give the key to our room which was on the floor below reception.......but the lift wasn't functioning and so I had to carry my case as well as my Mum's case down the stairs to the room and there was no offer of assistance. Our room appeared clean and comfortable, however when I looked in the bathroom, I discovered that there wasn't a walk-in shower, and instead the shower was over the bath, something I had specifically requested not to have when I made the booking as I would have been concerned for my elderly Mum's safety. Walking back up to reception, I explained what I had discovered and, very kindly, we were upgraded to another room that had bathroom with a separate shower. This room had amazing views and French doors that opened to where there was a small table and chairs. It was lovely. Our dinner in the evening was OK, nothing great to write home about but perfectly edible, however full compliments to the breakfast chef as we were presented with an absolute feast which we both greatly enjoyed.
The Park

My friend and I stayed at the Park hotel whilst on a 3 day fishing trip, this is the first, and certainly not the last time we will stay there. From entering the hotel we were greeted by Val, who was very helpful, and also very keen to advise us on the town of Peebles. The staff were excellent and areal credit to the hotel, from the bar staff, to the waitresses that served us a fantastic breakfast. We have stayed in a few hotels in Peebles, but will definitely be returning. We didn’t catch any fish this time, and Val was amused when we said next time we go fishing, we will put a fly on the end of the line, which at first she thought we hadn’t. Once again well done. Liam
Traquair Arms Hotel

3x blokes, road cycling trip across Scotland. September 2023. Fantastic hotel, and exceptionally good value. Location is brilliant, lovely ride in along the marked Scottish C2C route, the hotel is right on the route so no detours. Staff excellent and friendly from start-to-finish. Checked our 3 bikes into the self-service secure storage. Enjoyed a great (well earned) 3 course dinner in the hotel restaurant, which had a great a**osphere and as mentioned, lovely staff. (There is also a great brewery tap next door if you fancy a change of scenery - we didn't manage to get further than that in the village!) Breakfast served early, first-class traditional Scottish - but plenty of other options. Unlimited coffee and juice, we were really happy. Rooms are good for the price, simple ”pub with rooms” style, remember. Everything needed for a stay of this type. It was very hot, but I still slept well. Highly recommended, we'd stay at Traquair Arms again without hesitation.

Lovely traditional hotel with great staff and fine food. It is situated right in the middle of Melrose, with great walks and ruins nearby.

The very best hospitality. From walking in to checking out, the team are warm and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. For dinner, we had Fish and Chips in the bar area, which was the best I have tasted for long time - and huge portions. Breakfast was just as amazing. Free and safe parking, Thank you all for a wonderful stay. We were there to look into my husband's and daughters family history. Next time - I will bring my husband along too !

A walking holiday turned to a nightmare when my wife was taken acutely ill and ending up in hospital, first in Melrose and later in Edinburgh. I needed a place to stay and happened on the G and A.On relating my tale to Dawn she ordered me to sit down, brought me a cup of tea and biscuits, said of course there was a room and to stay as long as needed. It was such a relief to have matters settled so easily and with such sympathy. I kept them updated on my wife's progress and eventual discharge from hospital. Both she and Graham made a really difficult time that much easier. Both of us will always be so grateful for all they did, way beyond the call of duty and at a time that due to Covid cannot have been easy for themselves
Hundalee House

The Wife wasn't keen on staying here after driving up the lonely lane in the dark but all that changed once we got inside. We had a very warm welcome and were shown to our very nicely decorated, well appointed room. Sheila was very friendly and accommodating even to the point of allowing us to use her deep freeze to store the haggis I was on my way to taking home! Breakfast was superb and obviously only used the best ingredients. The grounds of Hundalee House looked superb and I would love to go and see them in the Summer.

We booked a last minute stay on Saturday and I have to say that aside from the location, our experience was very poor for a four star hotel. Room - for the money, the room was in need of a refurb! Very tired and beyond basic. I wouldn't have said it was even particularly clean. The shower was barely a shower with the lack of power and the bathroom needed a good scrub. ( I couldn't even use it and went to pool shower instead) Dinner - we got told that they would be busy that evening in both the restaurant and bar: expected on a saturday evening and holiday weekend. We opted for the bar and had to eat early due to the supposed business as it was the only time we could get unless we eat after 8pm. Anyway we turned up and and ended up being only people eating apart from two/three other tables. We then asked for water ( no ice or lemon) and had to wait another 5 minutes to get the attention of the waitress to ask for glasses! I would have thought drinking out a glass was a basic. The food took a while and wasn't great. My partner had the linguine and it was watery with no real taste and I had the steak and ale pie ( couldn't taste any ale and wasn't particularly hot!) I decided to have pudding but again we weren't asked if we wanted dessert when plates collected. We sat around and and waited for nearly 30 minutes before partner went and got someone! In all this time no other people arrived to eat! It took over two hours to eat with all the waiting around! Breakfast - mildly better and hot option was OK and and good if compared to dinner. The porridge was lumpy and bland no matter how much honey you added and i would have expected more fruit and pastries like most hotels we visit have. Check out - didn't even get asked if we had enjoyed our stay!!! Clearly they don't even want to get feedback and given the standards I don't blame them. I would also say that on check in we had to ask times of facilities and receptionist didn't bother to even give us the code for the pool. We did formally complain by email and it won't shock anyone that we are still awaiting any sort of acknowledgement! Overpriced and a basic 2/3 star hotel at best!
