The long-awaited G331 Jilin scenic section is here. Although it's early autumn and not yet the peak season for golden autumn views, the scenery along the way is a constant highlight. Wind-sculpted dead trees and old stumps are scattered across the meadow; just leaning against them makes for a cool, wilderness-style photo. Even shots taken with the original camera have a National Geographic quality. After I posted them on social media, people were asking me for the location for 3 days straight! Let me share a few hidden tips no one else will tell you! Don't waste time looking for the ticket office at the foot of the mountain; you still have to drive another 30 minutes up the winding mountain road to reach the entrance. During the peak season from August to October, the operating hours are 3:30 AM to 4:00 PM. If you want to camp, make sure to book one day in advance. Also, don't wait for the scenic shuttle bus. Just drive yourself to the parking area halfway up the mountain to save yourself 2 kilometers of unnecessary walking and get an extra 30 minutes to wait for the sunrise! For accommodation, you can stay in Linjiang. It's a 1-hour drive to the foot of the mountain, followed by another 20-plus minutes on the winding mountain road to get there. Tried and tested: A Liaoning-Jilin eastern loop road trip perfect for beginners~🚗 Three types of landscapes, connected by one road. This is an in-depth autumn sightseeing route in Northeast China. The landscapes of Huanren, the breeze of G331, the blue of Heaven Lake, and the tranquility of Longwan are all showcased along this route. 🔸Day 1 Shenyang → Huanren Take the expressway, 2.5 hours to Huanren. Travel tips: 1. Wunü Mountain: Hike to the top for an overlook of Huanlong Lake. Go a day early for a chance to see the sunrise over a sea of clouds. 2. Hugu Gorge: Gorge + Huilong Lake, the scenery rivals that of Guilin. Accommodation: Huanren County Food: Lamb soup 🔸Day 2 Huanren → Waypoint: Hunjiang Great Bend Observation Deck → Ji'an Start driving G331 from Huanren today, bypassing the Dandong section (too many winding mountain roads). Public transportation is terrible. The high-speed railway station is in Baishan, and it takes another 1.5–2 hours to get to Linjiang. Taxis are convenient within the city, but suburban attractions like Xigu, Laotudingzi, and Songling Snow Village are very far away, separated by dozens of kilometers with many winding mountain roads, and there are no direct tourist shuttles. I don't recommend coming if you aren't driving. Carpooling is expensive, and avoid unlicensed taxis on the side of the road, as they often overcharge. Driving along the G331 National Highway allows you to stop at riverside viewpoints whenever you want to take photos, which doubles the experience. 😌 [Real travel experience] The Yalu River water is crystal clear and green. Driving along the riverside road with green mountains on one side and the river on the other, looking across the river at the foreign scenery, the atmosphere is perfect. Taking a walk in Jiangxindao Park in the evening is super comfortable; watching the sunset by the river and feeling the cool river breeze is great. But you must do your homework, prioritize self-driving, lower your expectations, and don't expect a relaxing, lazy vacation, and you will have a great trip!

Panoramic view of Shuimo Snow Village (Back mountain observation deck) Climb the mountain behind the village in the early morning to overlook the entire snow village—snow-covered roofs, curling smoke, and red lanterns dotted in between. The black, white, and gray colors form a natural ink wash painting. Known as "Guandong Snow Village · Shuimo Songling," it is a paradise for photography enthusiasts and is highly photogenic. 2. Green slow train passing through the village The 4349/4350 public welfare slow train travels through the snow village. The green carriages against the backdrop of pure white snow look like a flowing ink wash painting. It was even featured in a live broadcast by CCTV and is one of the most iconic scenes in Songling. 3. Fence snow alley Wooden fences half-buried in the snow cast shadows on the ground, resembling zebras lying in the snow. Snow village sunset & throwing water to freeze Located deep in the mountains, the sun sets early in Songling. Snow tubing & snow activities Rent a snow tube for just a few dollars to enjoy the super long, homemade snow tracks. There are also traditional Northeast activities like snowball fights, building snowmen, riding sleds, and spinning ice tops to help you rediscover the joys of childhood. 6. Northeast heated kang & iron pot stew Stay on a traditional farmhouse heated kang, sit cross-legged, and eat iron pot stew, pickled cabbage with pork, and stewed chicken with mushrooms. You can eat your fill for about 50 yuan per person and experience the most authentic Guandong vibe. 7. Film and television shooting location Classic films like "Tracks in the Snowy Forest," "Five Golden Flowers," and "Chinese New Year" were all filmed here. Walking through the village feels like stepping into a movie scene, full of history.

I say they lived within the scenery because this retired couple from Zhejiang spent a month and a half in the Changbai Mountain area without ever actually going up the mountain, choosing instead to explore the surroundings. The wife loves the Korean long drum dance, so she asked me to help her connect with a local Korean dance troupe, and she practiced in the square every day. In their spare time, whenever the date ended in a "0" or "5," the couple would head to the local market, without fail. The husband, on the other hand, spent four straight days exploring the town. Once he finished with the town, he toured the surrounding mountains and waters, visiting every secondary attraction like Hongshifeng, Jiuxi Tingquan, the Lushuihe Hunting Ground, Neyin Ancient City, the Laoheihe Ruins, Dalong Bay, Linjiang Valley, the Songhua River Eco-Tourism Area, and Piyanshan. He even visited the surrounding cities of Yanji, Longjing, Tumen, Hunchun, Chongshan, and Baishan—but he never went up Changbai Mountain. He also loved the local farm-style cuisine, visiting Naitoushan Village, Changbai Village, Guangdong Village, and Manjiang Village. He would just eat whatever was available in the village and pick up the tab, not even sparing the unremarkable nearby hamlets. But this couple didn't rush between attractions or stay in trendy homestays near the scenic area; they simply settled into Erdaobaihe Town and spent their days wandering the surroundings. While others come to check off the scenery, they came to live within it. Instead of chasing the Heavenly Lake at the summit, they took their time to experience the daily life and the mountain forests of this Northeast town. Wouldn't you say they're quite unique? They really didn't take Changbai Mountain seriously—they spent 45 days here without ever stepping foot through the mountain gate! While others rush to Heavenly Lake, they lingered in the town.
