Ningcheng travel guide and discussion

Hey everyone! Just got back from Chifeng. As a "living map of the grasslands" who has been there N times, I stayed up late to put together this comprehensive guide! This "Pearl of the Grasslands" is a real hidden gem. While the memories are fresh, take this and use it as your cheat sheet! 🤩 🗺️ Attraction information Chifeng is known for Hongshan culture and grassland scenery. Attractions are divided into 5 main areas: · Northwest Route (Hexigten Banner/Global Geopark): Arshihaty Stone Forest (approx. 4-hour drive), Dali Nur Lake (approx. 4.5-hour drive), Huanggangliang National Forest Park (approx. 3.5-hour drive), Ulan Butong Grassland (approx. 3.5-hour drive), Reshuitang Hot Spring (approx. 3-hour drive). There are also 2 stunning scenic roads, the Re-A Line and Dada Line (approx. 2-hour drive)! · North Route (Ongniud Banner): Yulong Sand Lake (approx. 1.5-hour drive) · East Route (Bairin Left Banner): Ruins of Shangjing of the Liao Dynasty (approx. 2.5-hour drive) · South Route (Harqin Banner/Ningcheng): Prince Harqin Mansion (approx. 1-hour drive), Meilingu (approx. 1.5-hour drive), Daoxugou Scenic Area (approx. 2-hour drive) · Downtown and suburbs: Chifeng Museum, Hongshan Culture Museum, Hongshan National Forest Park, Qiaobei Zoo (within a 15-minute drive, easy to visit anytime) 🚗 Recommended itinerary (classic 4-day, 3-night loop) · Day 1: Downtown + South Route summer retreat Chifeng Museum > Hongshan Culture Museum > Prince Harqin Mansion > Meilingu (stay in Meilingu/return to downtown) · Day 2: North Route desert + Re-A Line Depart for Yulong Sand Lake to check out the desert > drive to Reshuitang Hot Spring > drive the Re-A Line at night to see the stars (stay in Reshuitang) · Day 3: Northwest Route panoramic tour Huanggangliang > Arshihaty Stone Forest > Dada Line > watch the sunset at Dali Nur Lake (stay near Dali Lake/Ulan Butong) · Day 4: Ulan Butong + return Horseback riding and off-roading in Ulan Butong Grassland > return to downtown Chifeng (or head straight to Weichang/Beijing) 🏠 Accommodation recommendations 1. Downtown Chifeng: Hongshan District/Songshan District, convenient transportation, suitable for the first night of arrival and transit 2. Meilingu: Top choice for a summer retreat! There are many summer villas and resort hotels with great air quality 3. Reshuitang Hot Spring: A must-stay to soak away fatigue! Choose a hotel with a private hot spring, it's so comfortable you won't want to leave ♨️ 4. Dali Nur Lake/Ulan Butong: Stay in unique yurts or inns by the lake or on the grassland to experience milking cows and stargazing, but book in advance during peak season! 🍜 Food recommendations (you haven't really been here if you don't try these!) · Hardcore Mongolian cuisine: Boiled mutton, roasted whole lamb/roasted lamb leg, milk tea, milk tofu, cheese. Authentic! 🐑 · Chifeng specialties: Chifeng duijia (similar to roujiamo, the flaky crust is amazing), hot pot mutton (local copper pot hot pot is super fragrant), Hada huoshao · Northwest Route fuel: Have a full fish feast/Daurian carp at Dali Nur Lake, it's incredibly fresh! 📸 Photography guide · Dada Line/Re-A Line: Cinematic road shots! Stand by the road to capture the winding grassland highway. Wearing a red/white long dress makes for great photos 📸 · Arshihaty Stone Forest: Capture the unique glacial stone forest. Use a wide-angle lens to maximize the sense of vastness · Yulong Sand Lake: Wear wasteland/cowboy style! Capture the collision of desert, camels, and lakes for a super cyber look · Ulan Butong: Capture the sunrise at Jiangjun Paozi in the morning, and the birch trees and grasslands in the European-style scenic area in the afternoon · Meilingu: Capture green alpine meadows in summer, and red leaves all over the mountains in autumn 💡 Practical tips 1. Transportation: Attractions are very spread out! Self-driving (SUV is best) or hiring a car is recommended. Taking public transport from the city to the suburbs is not realistic 2. Temperature difference: The temperature difference between day and night on the grassland is huge! Even if you go in summer, bring a thick jacket/windbreaker, and don't forget sun protection! 3. Time: The drive for each route is long (e.g., 3–4 hours to the Northwest Route). Start early every day and allow plenty of driving time 4. Map: The illustrated route shows general directions and distances. Follow navigation for actual travel ⚠️ Tips to avoid pitfalls (hard-learned lessons!) 1. Grassland pitfalls: Don't just ride horses on the side of the road! Find a legitimate horse riding team and agree on the price and duration in advance 2. Dining pitfalls: Eating duijia/hot pot in the city is reliable. When eating boiled mutton on the grassland, ask about the price clearly to avoid being overcharged 3. Road conditions: Some sections of the Re-A Line/Dada Line are gravel or unpaved. Drive carefully and be cautious during the rainy season 4. Accommodation pitfalls: Grassland yurts have limited facilities. Prices are high during peak season, so manage your expectations and book in advance 5. Environmental pitfalls: Do not litter in protected areas like Dali Nur Lake, and respect the local herdsmen's pastures The vastness and freedom of Chifeng are truly healing. Grab your besties and go! 🚀 Save this post so you don't get lost on your trip~

Ulan Butong is located in Hexigten Banner, Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia. It is a grassland destination relatively close to Beijing, featuring forests, lakes, and sandy areas. It is also a famous filming location and a paradise for photographers. The best time to visit is June–September (for summer retreats and green grass) and mid-September–early October (for golden autumn colors, which are the most photogenic). I. Transportation · Self-drive: Depart from Beijing via the Jingcheng Expressway → Weichang → Saihanba → Ulan Butong. It is about 450 km and takes 6–7 hours. Note that Saihanba and Ulan Butong charge separate admission fees. · Train + chartered car: Take a high-speed train to Chifeng or Chengde, then charter a car or join a carpool to get there. This is suitable for those not driving themselves. · Local transportation: Attractions are scattered, so self-driving or chartering a car is recommended. Off-road vehicles can take you deep into the heart of the grassland. II. Core attractions · General's Lake: Watch the sunrise and water birds; the reflection on the lake is beautiful. · Princess Lake: Named after the legend of Princess Lanqi'er, it is surrounded by birch forests and is perfect for sunset. · Film and Television Base: Filming location for "My Fair Princess" and "Kangxi Dynasty"; features boardwalks for sightseeing. · Wucai Mountain: A must-visit in autumn when the forest is ablaze with color. · Hama Dam: A photography hotspot with pastoral scenery, perfect for sunrise and sunset. · Toufeng Valley: Famous for off-road driving, autumn colors, and morning mist. · Panlong Canyon: Suitable for hiking or off-roading; a primitive grassland canyon. · Baicao Aobao: A place to pray and view the panoramic grassland scenery. III. Itinerary suggestions · 2-day classic: D1 General's Lake → Film and Television Base → Baicao Aobao → Princess Lake sunset; D2 Hama Dam → Wucai Mountain → Return trip. · 3-day in-depth: Add Toufeng Valley, Panlong Canyon, Donggou, Beigou, etc. Suitable for photography. · 4 days+: Can be combined with trips to Saihanba, Yudaokou, Dali Lake, and Asihatu Stone Forest. IV. Food and accommodation · Food: Whole roasted lamb, hand-grabbed mutton, Mongolian milk tea, milk tofu, and beef jerky. Dining inside the scenic area is relatively expensive; you can go to the Hongshan Horse Farm town to eat. · Accommodation: Hongshan Horse Farm is the core accommodation area, with hotels, farmhouses, and yurts. Book in advance during peak season (July–August, National Day). Accommodations are generally basic, so bring your own toiletries. V. Practical tips · Admission: Ulan Butong scenic area ticket is about 120 yuan, valid for 3 days. Saihanba charges separately. · Temperature difference: It is very cold in the morning and evening. Even in summer, you need a jacket; in autumn, you need a down jacket. · Sun protection and mosquito repellent: UV rays are strong and there are many mosquitoes, so be prepared with sunscreen and mosquito repellent. · Road conditions: There are many dirt roads on the grassland, which get muddy after rain. An SUV or off-road vehicle is recommended. · Photography: Sunrise and sunset are the golden hours. Hama Dam, Toufeng Valley, and Princess Lake are the most photogenic. · Avoid pitfalls: Agree on prices for horse riding and off-road vehicles in advance; respect the herdsmen's pastures and do not drive off-road randomly.

Arriving in Chifeng, the first thing that captivates you is the sky, so clean it's healing. It is as clear as if washed by rain, with thin, wispy clouds like the delicate veins in ancient jade, gently covering the city's skyline. I stayed at the Jifeng International Hotel Chifeng Yulong Airport Branch. Its elegant British light luxury style, combined with thoughtful smart amenities, instantly relaxed me after the journey. The room was clean, quiet, and comfortably laid out. The smart devices were convenient and stress-free, helping me shed my fatigue. A peaceful and cozy rest time, the perfect prelude to this journey through thousands of years of culture. ✨ The beauty of the morning begins with a bite of authentic Chifeng life. I tried the long-awaited Chifeng Duijia. The layers of pastry were golden and crispy, wrapping around savory, flavorful meat filling. One bite was full of rich meaty aroma—a bold and authentic Chifeng flavor that instantly healed all my taste buds. 🥹 After resting, I headed to the first stop—the Hongshan Culture Museum. It felt like entering a quiet time tunnel, having a gentle encounter with ancestors from thousands of years ago. 🕰️ Pushing open the glass door, a cool breeze carrying the faint, rustic scent of pottery and stone tools greeted me. In the soft light of the exhibition hall, the iconic C-shaped jade dragon sat quietly. Known as the "First Dragon of China," it has no carved pupils, yet it seems to span 5,000 years of time, quietly gazing at every visitor who comes to see it. To me, it is more like a gentle question mark. Its curved, flowing form hides the ancient ancestors' awe of heaven and earth, and their endless exploration of the world. Gazing closely at the polished stone tools and rustic pottery jars with impressed patterns in the display case, their rough yet warm texture looks just like the lines on our ancestors' palms—simple, resilient, and silently guarding the curling smoke of ancient tribes. Every exhibit is a trace of time settled over thousands of years. Without stopping, I headed to the second stop—the Liao Dynasty Daming Pagoda. 🏯 If the Hongshan Culture Museum preserves the brilliant spark of northern civilization, then the thousand-year-old Daming Pagoda is the immortal monument left by the Khitan Dynasty on the land beyond the Great Wall. This ancient pagoda, standing at the Liao Zhongjing ruins in Ningcheng County, Chifeng, is full of stories from the past: ▪️Millennial coordinates: About 120 km from downtown Chifeng. Originally named Daning Pagoda, "Daming Pagoda" is a homophonic name inherited from the Ming Dynasty; ▪️Sediment of time: Built during the peak of the Liao Dynasty between 1007–1098 AD, it has stood through wind and rain for a thousand years; ▪️Grand scale: An octagonal, 13-story, dense-eave solid brick pagoda, with a total height of 80.22 meters. It is the third tallest pagoda in the country, and its volume ranks first in the country; ▪️Ingenious craftsmanship: The first level of the pagoda is covered with exquisite reliefs of Bodhisattvas, attendants, and flying Apsaras, all lifelike. Emperor Qianlong once praised it in writing: "Magnificent from afar, yet difficult to fully take in when standing close"; ▪️Resilient spirit: After weathering erosion, repairs in the Yuan Dynasty, and the Tangshan earthquake, it was fully renovated in 1981 and still stands tall and majestic between the mountains and rivers. Standing beneath the ancient pagoda and looking up, a sense of heavy history washes over you. The thousand-year wind brushes against the patterns on the pagoda, passing through the long years. It feels as if you can still hear the wind of the Liao Dynasty mountains and rivers. Every brick and tile is history; every blade of grass and tree is the past. Starting with a comfortable rest, falling for the earthly life, and ending with the millennial cultural heritage. In Chifeng, collect all the gentle evening breezes, clear blue skies, and the romance of history that spans thousands of years. 🌿

Just finished a 5-day self-driving tour exploring ancient sites in Liaoning. I braved heavy rain and sunny days to visit 18 Liao Dynasty pagodas. The pace was rushed, but it was absolutely stunning. 📍Overview Located in Chaoyang, Chifeng, and other areas in Liaoning, focusing on the cultural landscape of Liao Dynasty pagodas. Most are free to enter, making them perfect for ancient architecture enthusiasts and photography lovers. 🗺️Itinerary D1 Tangshan Tiangong Temple Pagoda → Qinhuangdao Yuanying Temple Pagoda → Chaoyang North Pagoda → D2 Chaoyang South Pagoda → Jieyun Temple Pagoda → Qingfeng Pagoda → Banji Pagoda → D3 Guangji Temple Pagoda → Chongxing Temple Twin Pagodas → Dongpingfang Pagoda → Huanghuatan Pagoda → D4 Balengguan Pagoda → Shuangta Temple Pagoda → Liao Zhongjing Daming Pagoda → D5 Liao Shangjing South Pagoda → North Pagoda → Liao Qingzhou White Pagoda. Tip: The attractions are scattered, so a self-driving tour is recommended. Plan your route through the towns to find the pagodas in advance. ✨Highlights The ancient pagodas are majestic and incredibly photogenic. Some require a bit of hiking, but it's not physically demanding. It's recommended to plan your itinerary by connecting them based on their location. 🍜Local Cuisine Chaoyang millet porridge (breakfast shops on the streets of Chaoyang), Chifeng Duijia (time-honored brands in downtown Chifeng), and Shouba Rou (at herdsmen's homes on the grassland). 🏨Accommodation 1. Homestays near scenic spots: Inns around Fenghuang Mountain, within walking distance to Jieyun Temple Pagoda. 2. City hotels: Chaoyang Yandu International Hotel, with mature transit facilities and convenient parking. 🎒Travel Essentials 1. Protection: Sun umbrella, mosquito repellent. 2. Personal items: Power bank, cash. 💡Practical Tips 1. It's hard to hail a taxi for pagodas in remote towns, so self-driving or chartering a car is recommended. 2. The lighting is best for photographing the ancient pagodas on sunny mornings. 3. Be careful when climbing the pagodas; some have steep steps. 4. Respect local customs and do not touch the reliefs on the pagoda bodies. This trip to the Liao pagodas allowed me to see aesthetic monuments from a thousand years ago. It was truly a trip worth taking.

Just finished my trip to Ningcheng🌿. It has lush northern forests, streams, and waterfalls, as well as profound Liao Dynasty pagodas and ancient architecture. Grassland vibes and history are intertwined here. Setting aside the social media filters, I'm sharing my real experience. If you're planning a trip, be sure to save this guide. 🌿 Core highlights Ningcheng's natural scenery is diverse, with lush, rolling green mountains. Waterfalls cascade down the rocks, and streams flow slowly between the stones. Strolling along the valley trails, you'll hear the babbling water and see fresh greenery everywhere. The grassland area features unique yurts, paired with open lakes, creating a relaxed, frontier atmosphere. Hidden here are precious Liao Dynasty pagodas, with simple yet delicate carvings that have stood the test of time, creating a strong sense of history. The ancient temples and museum complexes are grand and solemn, with flying eaves and bracket sets showcasing the beauty of classical architecture. Landscapes, grasslands, and historical sites blend together here, allowing you to get close to nature for hiking and fresh air, or to quietly appreciate Liao Dynasty history and culture. The attractions are moderately spaced, allowing for flexible combinations of natural and cultural spots. 🗓 2-day leisure itinerary Day 1: Arrive in Ningcheng, prioritize the landscape and stream area, visit the waterfalls and valley trails, walk slowly through the forest, and feel the mountain breeze. In the evening, head to the grassland area to view the open lake and enjoy the evening sky of the frontier. Rest well to recover your energy. Day 2: Visit the Liao Dynasty pagodas and ancient architecture exhibits. Take your time to appreciate the stone carvings and classical halls, and learn about local history. There's no need to rush to visit every spot; choose the ones that interest you for a deeper experience. Leave time for your return trip to keep the itinerary relaxed and unhurried. 💡 Helpful travel tips ✅ The mountain valleys have many loose stones and stone steps, and the ground is uneven. Be sure to wear non-slip sports shoes for hiking👟, and watch your step in areas with water. ✅ The temperature difference between day and night in the northern mountains is huge. Even if it's sunny during the day, temperatures are low in the morning and evening, so bring a thicker jacket🧥. ✅ UV rays are strong in outdoor areas. On sunny days, be sure to wear a hat and sunglasses, and take sun protection measures☀️. ✅ There are many mosquitoes and insects in the forests and grasslands, so prepare mosquito repellent in advance. Try to wear long pants in areas with dense vegetation to prevent scratches. ✅ Please cherish cultural relics and historical sites. Do not touch or carve on ancient pagodas or buildings, and do not climb on historical structures to protect these heritage sites🍃. ✅ The grassland and ancient architecture areas are scattered, and the drive between spots is long, so driving yourself will be more convenient. ✅ Mountain weather is changeable, and short showers are common, so carry rain gear with you. Mountain roads are slippery after rain, so be extra careful when hiking. ✅ When entering grasslands and forest areas, follow fire safety regulations, do not use open flames, and do not litter to protect the natural environment. ✅ Pay attention to the opening hours when visiting museums and ancient temples. Some venues are closed on Mondays, so check in advance before you go. Ningcheng is a niche, hidden gem destination. It's quiet and uncrowded, offering both frontier landscapes and Liao Dynasty historical sites, making it perfect for those who enjoy a mix of culture + nature. As long as you plan your route in advance, pack the right clothes, and avoid rushing from spot to spot, you'll have a comfortable and rewarding trip.

We drove from Chifeng Station to Ningcheng County and chose Saiwai Canglang for our first meal. Stuffed lamb stomach: No gamey taste at all, and it melts in your mouth. The two dipping sauces add rich layers of flavor. Herdsman-style hand-grabbed meat: You can order a half-jin portion. It's super delicious with chive flower sauce. Milk tofu: Available as pulled sugar or honey-glazed. Due to time constraints, we chose the honey-glazed milk tofu. The portion is huge. Don't miss it if you're passing by.

Help! I stayed in a luxury wild tent in Ulan Butong for three days, and I honestly don’t want to go back to the city... I used to think the accommodation on the grasslands would be poor, lacking everything, but this stay completely proved me wrong—opening the tent reveals an endless grassland, lying in bed at night watching the stars, waking up to the calls of cattle and sheep in the morning, this experience is truly incredible! This article won’t talk about the attractions but will focus on how to enjoy the grassland to the fullest, all based on my personal experience, definitely worth saving! 🐎 Horse Riding Trek: The Most Authentic Grassland Experience Coming to the grassland without riding a horse is really a wasted trip! But don’t just pick a horse at the scenic spot entrance and ride for ten minutes—that’s really boring. I recommend finding local herders to take you on a deep trekking route, riding for two to three hours, from the grassland to the birch forest, then to the creek. The scenery keeps changing along the way, a hundred times more interesting than just circling a fixed area. If it’s your first time riding, don’t worry. The herders will lead the horse slowly and teach you how to control direction and speed. I had never ridden before, but after half an hour, I got the hang of it and even managed to trot a bit later. The feeling of the wind blowing past your ears is incredibly freeing! 🌿 Grassland Hiking: Measuring the Green with Your Steps If you think horse riding is too fast to take in the scenery, hiking is definitely your thing. I recommend the Donggou route, about three kilometers long, all gentle grassland, very easy to walk. Along the way, you’ll pass flower seas, creeks, birch forests, and herds of cattle and sheep slowly walking by. If you’re lucky, you might even see a marmot peeking out of its hole (just watch from afar, don’t get too close). It’s best to go in the morning or evening when it’s cool and not sunny. When tired, find a hillside to sit, feel the breeze, and daydream—the feeling makes time seem to slow down... 🔥 Bonfire Party: The Right Way to Enjoy Grassland Nights The grassland at night is anything but boring! A bonfire party is a must! Everyone gathers around the fire singing and dancing, with herders performing the horsehead fiddle and Mongolian dance, creating a fantastic atmosphere. I’m usually shy and just wanted to watch, but the enthusiastic herders pulled me in to dance, and sweating it out was super relieving. The highlight! The night sky on the grassland is absolutely stunning! No light pollution, so many stars it’s almost overwhelming. Lying on the grass watching the stars, it feels like you’re surrounded by the Milky Way—an experience you’ll never get in the city. 🎯 Insider Tips for Unique Experiences 1. Grassland Off-Roading: Ride an off-road vehicle deep into the grassland to places regular cars can’t reach. The bumpy ride is thrilling, and the scenery is more pristine. 2. Archery Experience: Feel the joy of a Mongolian warrior. Although I missed the target on eight out of ten shots, I still had a blast. 3. Grassland Sunrise Watching: Instead of squeezing into crowded spots, just walk from your accommodation to a nearby hillside and quietly wait for the sun to rise. It’s very healing. 4. Grass Sliding: Slide down the hillside with the wind roaring past your ears. Super relaxing—I did it three times and want to do it again. 🧳 Pre-Trip Checklist · Clothes: Short sleeves + long sleeves + thick jacket. The grassland experiences all four seasons in one day. · Shoes: Comfortable sneakers or boots are a must. You’ll walk a lot and they protect against insects. · Sun Protection: Sunscreen + hat + sunglasses + sun-protective clothing, all essential. The grassland UV rays are really strong. · Mosquito Repellent: There are many mosquitoes on the grassland, and they’re vicious. Bring plenty of repellent. · Power Bank: The area is large, and taking photos drains your battery fast. A power bank is essential. · Snacks and Water: It’s not easy to buy things on the grassland, so bring extra supplies. 💡 Personal Tips · Stay at least two nights. One day for travel and one day for fun is too rushed to truly enjoy the slow grassland life. · Don’t pack your itinerary too full. The grassland is meant to be explored slowly, wandering and stopping here and there is the right way. · Respect local herders’ customs. Don’t enter their yurts without permission and don’t chase the cattle or sheep. · Signal is weak on the grassland. Download offline maps in advance and take the chance to put your phone down and enjoy nature. Truly, staying a few days on the grassland feels healing. No work messages, no city noise, just blue skies, green grass, and fresh air... This simple happiness hasn’t come around in a long time. July is the best time for the grassland—greenest grass, most flowers, and the most comfortable temperature. Give yourself a break and go wild on the grassland! · -- Accommodation 🏨 Ulan Butong Airport Resort Area The top-tier tent homestay in terms of aesthetics! Great facilities and service, stunning surrounding grassland views, plus barbecue and café. Staying here feels like living in a grassland utopia, perfect for photo ops. 🏨 Muyeyunshang Resort Hotel (Ulan Butong Grassland Branch) Break your stereotypes about yurts! Authentic yurt exterior + fully smart home setup, spacious double-layer loft wooden houses, private bathrooms with dry and wet separation, the perfect choice for a lazy vacation. 🏨 Mengyuan Holiday Hotel (Ulan Butong Grassland Branch) A classic panoramic hotel in Ulan Butong, perfectly located in Xiaohongshanzi Village, next to the racetrack, right on the grassland. Jiuzhaigou Beyond the Great Wall · Daoxugou: A Mountain and Water Poem Hidden Deep in the Yanshan Mountains Located in the Heilihe Nature Reserve of Ningcheng County, Chifeng, Inner Mongolia, Daoxugou is known as the "Jiuzhaigou Beyond the Great Wall." This natural oxygen bar lies in the Qilaotu Mountain branch of the Yanshan Mountain range. It features Quaternary glacially sculpted strange rocks, vast forests and waterfalls, and vibrant folk experiences full of local life—making it an excellent escape from urban noise and a perfect place to get close to nature. 🌿 Geological Wonders: A Millennium Dialogue Between Stone and Forest The Stone Pond Forest is the soul of Daoxugou. As the largest granite stone pond forest in China, it preserves complete Quaternary glacial relics. Countless granite boulders of various sizes stretch for 2 kilometers, resembling art carefully arranged by nature. Pines and birches sprout resiliently from crevices between the rocks, with stone and trees leaning on each other, embodying both the austerity of glaciers and the vitality of forests. Walking here feels like traveling through time, touching the earth’s billion-year evolution. Leshuitan Waterfall is where water’s vitality shines. A 3-meter-high stone dam forms a pool with jade-clear water. When the water cascades down, it sprays like flying pearls and splashing jade, accompanied by a roaring sound. Strolling along Jinshui Creek, the babbling stream and clustered waterfalls create a misty breeze that brings refreshing coolness, especially pleasant in summer. 🎋 Seasonal Scenery: Unique Surprises in Every Season · *Summer (June to August)** is a perfect summer resort. With a forest coverage rate of 95% and abundant negative oxygen ions, the average temperature is only about 20°C. Dense green trees provide shade, clear streams reveal the bottom, and wildflowers bloom everywhere—ideal for cooling off, hiking, and breathing fresh air. Morning mountain mists create a fairyland atmosphere; afternoon sunlight filters through leaves casting dappled shadows, offering a leisurely and comfortable experience. · *Autumn (September to October)** brings colorful forests. Birch, maple, and larch trees weave a palette of golden yellow, fiery red, and orange-red, contrasting beautifully with the gray-white stones of the Stone Pond Forest. Morning clouds and mist envelop the colorful woods, making every photo a masterpiece without filters. Visitors call it the "Northeast Kanas." Spring and winter also have their own charm. In spring, ice and snow melt, mountain flowers bloom in succession, and all life revives. In winter, the landscape is covered in silver; waterfalls freeze into icefalls, and the Stone Pond Forest dons a pure white coat, quiet and pristine. 🚶 Travel Routes: Easily Explore the Core Attractions · Must-Visit Entry: Enter through the mountain gate styled after the Han Dynasty Xieshan Wulang architecture. The first sight is the majestic mountain gate waterfall nearly 100 meters wide. Follow the boardwalk to Leshuitan, Love Island, and Forest Paradise to enjoy the beauty of water and forest. · Geological Essence Line: Delve into the Stone Pond Forest to explore the mysteries of glacial relics and experience nature’s craftsmanship between giant rocks and forests. · Summit Scenic Line: Take a sightseeing bus or hike to the top to visit the Waterwheel Exhibition Park, showcasing ancient and modern water facilities from the Netherlands, the USA, Ancient Rome, and more—witness human wisdom. Then climb the Cloud Grassland (521 steps) to overlook panoramic views of the forest, meadows, and canyons, offering a broad and refreshing perspective. · Folk Experience Line: Head to Wildman Valley to watch folk performances, experience traditional customs like mountain god worship and blessings, and taste Mongolian cuisine such as hand-pulled meat and mare’s milk wine, immersing yourself in grassland culture. 📝 Practical Tips for a Worry-Free Trip · Tickets and Opening Hours: Admission is 80 RMB per person (free for children under 1.2 meters and seniors over 70; half price for children 1.2-1.5 meters and students). Open from 8:00 to 18:00 (peak season); some closures in winter. · Transportation: Driving is most convenient. From Chifeng city, take Provincial Road S206 then County Road X232, about 116 km, 2 hours. Public transport requires first reaching Tianyi Town in Ningcheng County, then transferring to a shuttle or taxi. · Touring Suggestions: The scenic area is large; combining sightseeing bus rides (about 80 RMB round trip) with walking saves energy. Wear non-slip shoes; mountain temperatures vary greatly between day and night, so bring a light jacket even in summer. · Accommodation and Food: Options include Wukesong Hotel and Horq Mongolian Yurts, offering forest cabins or grassland experiences. Recommended dishes include fish stew from fishing villages, mushroom chicken stew, and bracken stir-fried with meat—authentic and fresh. ✨ Summary Daoxugou is unadorned, only natural authenticity. The toughness of stone, the vitality of water, the life of forests, and the warmth of folk customs weave a unique mountain and water painting beyond the Great Wall. Whether cooling off in summer, admiring autumn colors, or exploring geological wonders year-round, it fulfills all your nature travel expectations. Escape the city noise and find inner peace and relaxation among green mountains and clear waters—Daoxugou is worth a special trip.

The Chifeng spring flower viewing season has arrived as scheduled, with flowers blooming in sequence and scenery changing with every step. Starting in early April, the peach blossoms on Tonghua Lane bloom first, gradually tinting the entire street with rosy hues. Looking up, you see flowers; looking down, flowers as well—this has become a ritual landmark for Chifeng residents welcoming spring. From mid-April, the Botanical Garden on the southern foot of Xing'an Mountain enters its peak bloom period, with golden forsythia, charming crabapples, and serene lilacs. The paths are nestled among flowering branches, the fragrance permeates the air, and sitting quietly on a bench, you can watch petals gently fall and time flow slowly. From late April, hundreds of thousands of apricot trees in Shenxianggou spread across the hills like scattered clouds. Up close, their thin petals are translucent, and when the wind blows, an "apricot blossom rain" flutters down; at the same time, azaleas begin to bloom, intertwining pink, white, and deep red, blending gentleness with passion. The 70,000-mu (about 11,500 acres) apricot forest in Louzidian is even more magnificent, with a sweet fragrance filling the air. During the Apricot Blossom Festival, crowds of spring walkers fill the fields, laughter echoing everywhere. Starting in early May, hundreds of acres of azaleas in Daoxugou and Heilihe bloom one after another, their fiery red contrasting beautifully with white birch and black pine; the Heilihe Azalea Festival lasts seven days, offering an immersive experience of spring in the mountains and fields. From mid to late May, the high-altitude azaleas of Huanggangliang bloom like a cascade of colorful clouds. The rare white azalea in Jiepeng Town is elegant and otherworldly, praised by locals as the "fairy among flowers," cool and distinguished, attracting visitors to trek the mountains in search of it. Qingquangu gathers dozens of wild mountain flowers including wild apricot, cherry, mountain pear, lilac, mountain cornel, and spiraea, with a blooming period extending to mid-May—each step reveals a new color, each breath a new fragrance, each moment a new joy. Although spring in Chifeng is short, it pours out all its vitality in the most intense way—half a month of apricot blossoms, twenty days of azaleas, bringing the entire season’s life and poetry right before your eyes. Come to Chifeng and join a unique springtime rendezvous!

If you think the mountains in Jiangsu only have the elegance of Zijin Mountain and the gentleness of Huishan, then you definitely haven't been to Jiulongjian in Jurong. Here lies a "high mountain meadow" that hiking enthusiasts become addicted to—nine continuous peaks undulate like the spine of a giant dragon, covered with waist-high cogongrass. When the wind blows, it ripples like green waves, making you feel as if you've stepped into Wugong Mountain in Jiangxi or the classic Windows desktop wallpaper. There are no steps, no cable cars, only winding ridge trails and vast wilderness—this is a rare "high mountain meadow" landscape in East China. Even more precious is that this secret place, called the "Little Wugong Mountain" by hikers, still retains its original wild mountain charm. There is no scenic area gate, no entrance fee, only trails forged by hikers' footsteps and the freedom of standing on the ridge overlooking the world. Only an hour's drive from Nanjing, this seriously underrated mountain ridge secret is becoming the "new favorite" in the Yangtze River Delta hiking community with its unique meadow scenery. Nine continuous peaks, tens of thousands of acres of high mountain meadows, free admission, nearby mining pit "blue tears"... all gathered here, yet it remains quietly niche. This is a visual feast of ridges and meadows and a healing journey measured by your own feet. First Encounter with Jiulongjian: A Rare "High Mountain Meadow" in Jiangnan Jiulongjian is located at the junction of Jurong and Jiangning, named after the nine continuous peaks. The highest peak is 433 meters above sea level. Although not very high, the mountain is relatively independent, offering extremely broad views. The most stunning feature is the endless high mountain meadow on the summit—rare in the hilly and water-rich Jiangnan region. From the foot of the mountain, the vegetation shows a unique layering. Below the mid-mountain are dense shrubs, but above a certain height, trees suddenly disappear, replaced by waist-high cogongrass covering the hillsides. When the wind blows, it creates waves of green. The feeling of openness is like suddenly walking from a forest into a grassland. The moment you stand on the first peak, the view opens up—the continuous ridge line winds and undulates like a green dragon crawling on the earth. The peaks in the distance rise one after another, with the farthest one faintly visible in the mist. The mountain wind whistles past your ears, rustling the cogongrass, surrounding you with vastness. This sense of freedom is something you can never experience in the city. Walking the Ridge: Between Meadow and Sky The hiking route of Jiulongjian follows the ridge line, about 6-7 kilometers long with a total ascent of about 400 meters. There are no steps or railings, only narrow trails made by hikers, faintly visible among the cogongrass. From the first peak to the third peak is the most scenic section. The meadow here is lush, with cogongrass taller than knees on both sides, walking through it feels like moving through a golden ocean. Looking back, the trail draws a beautiful arc on the ridge, with layered mountains and faint city outlines in the distance. The fourth peak is the highest point at 433 meters. Standing on the summit, the view is extremely wide—northward you see Jiangning city, southward the mountains and waters of Jurong, eastward the continuous mountain ranges, and westward the Yangtze River alluvial plain. On a clear day, you can even faintly see the outline of Zijin Mountain in Nanjing. The section from the fifth to the seventh peak is relatively flat and the easiest part of the hike. The meadow here is denser, with some cogongrass taller than a person, like walking through a green maze. Occasionally, you can see a few lonely pine trees growing crookedly among the grass, looking like natural bonsai. The eighth and ninth peaks mark the end of the route and another scenic highlight. From here, you can overlook the mining pit lakes at the foot of the mountain—the water is a deep blue-green, shining like a huge emerald in the sunlight, locally known as "Jurong Blue Tears." The whole hike takes about 3 hours if fast, or 4-5 hours if slow. No need to worry about getting lost; there is only one main trail along the ridge. Seasonal Changes: The Thousand Faces of the Meadow The beauty of Jiulongjian changes with the seasons. Late spring to early summer (May-June) is the greenest season for the meadow. After spring rains, the cogongrass sprouts fresh green shoots, covering the ridge like a green velvet carpet. Mountain flowers bloom in yellow, purple, and white, dotting the grass. The temperature is comfortable, making it the best time for hiking. Autumn (October-November) is the most spectacular season. The cogongrass turns from green to yellow, then golden brown, glowing warmly in the sunlight. The whole ridge looks like a golden ocean on fire, with waves of grass rolling in the wind, evoking a vast and refreshing feeling. Winter (December-February) brings a desolate poetic charm. The cogongrass turns yellow and withers, revealing the bare ridge lines, sketching simple lines against the gray-blue sky. If it snows, the snow-covered meadow looks even more vast and magnificent. Summer (July-September) has the most lush grass but is also the most challenging season. There is no shade on the mountain, full sun exposure, and temperatures several degrees higher than at the foot. If you choose to go in summer, be sure to prepare sun protection, bring enough water, or start early in the morning or late in the afternoon. More Than Mountains: Treasure Secrets Around Jiulongjian Jiulongjian itself can be explored in half a day to a full day, but several "treasure secrets" nearby can be linked for a fulfilling day trip. Wangxiantan—"Jurong Blue Tears" Not far from Jiulongjian in the border town lies a stunning mining pit lake—Wangxiantan. Formed by water accumulation in an old mining pit, the lake water is a deep blue-green, shining like a huge emerald in the sun, known online as "Jurong Blue Tears." The steep rock walls around the lake are covered with moss, contrasting sharply with the blue water. A newly built "Fuxi Tea House" by the shore offers a place to sit, sip tea, and gaze at the Blue Tears. There is no entrance fee, parking is free, making it a great photo spot. Lunshan Lake—Slow Life Amid Lake and Mountains After descending Jiulongjian, you can drive to Lunshan Lake, the largest reservoir in Jurong. The water is clear, surrounded by green mountains. There is a lakeside trail for walking and cycling. The recently opened trendy cafes "Refraction Coffee" and "Wilderness Coffee" are located on a high ground by the lake, with floor-to-ceiling windows facing the water. Order a coffee, sit by the window, and enjoy the lake and mountain scenery—pure relaxation to wash away hiking fatigue. Qianhua Ancient Village—The Bustling Atmosphere of Ming and Qing Dynasties If time permits, visit Qianhua Ancient Village at the foot of Baohua Mountain. This reconstructed ancient village features Ming and Qing dynasty styles, with stone-paved streets, old shops, small bridges, and flowing water, restoring the life scenes of ancient towns. You can experience the village tofu workshop, winery, and teahouse, buy freshly made tofu, drink homemade rice wine, and feel the life of the ancients. Travel Tips: How to Enter This High Mountain Meadow 🚗 Transportation Guide Self-driving (preferred): Search navigation for "Jiulongjian" or "Jurong Jiulian Peaks." The hiking start point is at the junction of Jiangning District, Nanjing, and Jurong City. It takes about 1 hour from downtown Nanjing, about 1 hour from Zhenjiang, and about 1.5 hours from Changzhou. Navigate to "Qinglin Community" or "Tongshan," drive along rural roads to the mountain foot, where roadside parking is available. Public transport: Take Metro Line S6 (Ningju Line) to "Huangmei Station," then take a taxi about 20 minutes to the Jiulongjian hiking start point. It is recommended to book a ride in advance for the return trip. 🗺️ Hiking Route Classic traverse route (about 4-5 hours): Start (near Qinglin Community) → First Peak → Second Peak → Third Peak → Fourth Peak (highest) → Fifth Peak → Sixth Peak → Seventh Peak → Eighth Peak → Ninth Peak → End (descend to Jurong side), about 7 kilometers in total. Friendly reminder: The start and end points are not the same. If driving, it is recommended to park at the start point and take a taxi back to retrieve your car after hiking (about 15-20 minutes). Alternatively, use two cars, one parked at the start and one at the end. You can also return the same way, but the distance will double, which is not recommended.

March Off-Peak Self-Driving Trip: 3 Days from Xi'an, From Spring Flower Seas to Snowy Secrets Standing at Labrang Monastery at an altitude of 3200 meters, the sun beat down hard on my face—forget KPIs! 🙅‍♀️ This is how the New Year should be celebrated! The feeling of being healed is something you have to experience to understand! 🔥 Day 0️⃣|Xi'an → Gangu (Overnight) Directly drove after work, 4 hours to Gangu 🌙 Overnight in the small town, the next morning a bowl of beef noodles 🍜 The broth was rich, and the carbs were plentiful, giving me energy for the high-altitude journey! 😋 Day 1️⃣|Gangu → Labrang Monastery → Xiahe (Overnight) Departed at 7 am, heading towards the tranquil red walls and golden roofs of Labrang Monastery 🙏 The prayer wheel corridor after the snow was serene and sacred; my fingertips touched the prayer wheels, and my heart was at peace. 💙 Enjoyed yak hotpot at 【Uzelinka】 this evening; the broth was incredibly delicious! 🍲 I used to focus on whether I'd get a headache, but after this trip, I realized—my stomach is the most likely to cause problems. High-altitude environments are inherently challenging for the body. Crossing provinces, changing climates, and altering diets, plus dry air, large temperature differences between day and night, and disrupting your sleep schedule. Many people think altitude sickness is just headaches, chest tightness, and palpitations. But there's something many people overlook—intestinal altitude sickness. As the altitude increases, the body adapts to the lack of oxygen. Add to that the completely different diet of yak meat, butter tea, and yogurt, and your digestive system can easily struggle, leading to symptoms similar to traveler's diarrhea and loss of appetite. So, I prepared beforehand, bringing high-altitude probiotics in my bag. They use a high-altitude-specific strain, better suited to the changing altitude and diet. Just two packets a day, no need to rinse, very convenient for the journey. This trip included yak hotpot, dried beef, and yak yogurt, and my stomach felt fine; I tried almost every kind of delicious food. D2|Xiahe→Gongba Temple→Zhagana (Overnight) I bundled up like a ball to watch the sunrise, and the moment the golden light bathed the golden roof was so moving I almost cried! 😭 Crossing Zhagana, the snow-capped mountains and grasslands were breathtakingly beautiful! 🏔 In the evening, I sat by the fire and watched the stars; the Milky Way seemed almost within reach! 🌌 D3|Zhagana→Zhouqu→Xi'an Fairy Beach in the morning mist, the Stone City appearing and disappearing—few crowds in winter, I had the place to myself! 📸 A stopover in Zhouqu for a bowl of pickled cabbage noodles—time to return! 🍜

Wuzhangyuan Scenic Area is located in Qishan County, Baoji City, Shaanxi Province. It is a tourist destination that combines natural and cultural landscapes centered on the history and culture of the Three Kingdoms period. It is world-renowned as the place where Zhuge Liang stationed troops during the Northern Expeditions and passed away. The scenic area lies on the loess plateau at the northern foot of the Qinling Mountains, with an elevation of about 750 meters and a total area of approximately 46.5 square kilometers. The core area covers nearly 13,000 square meters. The terrain is strategically important, with the Qinling Mountains to the south, the Wei River to the north, and deep ravines on both east and west sides. It was a key strategic site during the standoff between Shu Han and Cao Wei in the Three Kingdoms era. There are various theories about the origin of the name: one suggests the narrowest part of the plateau is only five zhang wide; another attributes it to a dust storm five zhang high during Emperor Qin Er Shi’s western tour; or it may be a simplification of “Fifty Zhang Plain.” The main attractions include the Zhuge Liang Temple (Wuhou Shrine), originally built in the Tang Dynasty. The temple faces south and includes the Offering Hall, Main Hall, and Bagua Pavilion. It preserves relics such as the stele with Yue Fei’s handwritten “Chu Shi Biao” (Memorial on the Expedition), Zhuge Liang’s tomb with his clothes and hat, and the Falling Star Pavilion. The murals and statues inside vividly depict stories from the Three Kingdoms. Surrounding the temple are more than twenty ancient battlefield sites from the Three Kingdoms period, such as the Shu army’s main camp at Jiulong Mountain, Huoluo City, Qipan Mountain, Zhuge Spring, and Hulu Valley. Legend has it that Qipan Mountain was where Zhuge Liang played chess and rested. Driving Directions ‌Main Route‌: Take the Xibao Expressway or Lianhuo Expressway, exit at Caijiapo, head south along Qishan Avenue, then turn onto Zhouwu Road to reach the scenic area. ‌Alternative Route‌: Take National Highway 310 (Xibao South Line), then turn onto Zhouwu Road to arrive. ‌Detailed Route Example‌: Starting from Baoji city center, pass Jiamei Plaza → Guansen Intersection → Dongfeng Road → Daqing Road → Wolong Temple → Guozhen → Panxi Town → Tianwang Town → Diaowei Town → Shucang Township → Wuzhangyuan Town → Wuxing Village → Zhuge Liang Temple. The entire route is in good condition and suitable for navigation by entering “Wuzhangyuan Zhuge Liang Temple.” Public Transportation ‌High-Speed Rail‌: Take the high-speed train from Xi’an North Station or Baoji South Station to Qishan Station. After exiting, transfer to bus (e.g., Route 309) or taxi to the scenic area. ‌Train‌: Take a regular train from Xi’an Station or Baoji Station to Caijiapo Station, then transfer to a bus or taxi. ‌Long-Distance Bus‌: From Xi’an West City Bus Station or Baoji Bus Station, take a shuttle bus to Caijiapo Bus Station, then transfer to a bus or taxi. From Baoji Bus Station, take a bus to Meixian and get off at Gaodian (about 1.5 hours, fare about 12 yuan). Then transfer to a bus heading to “Shanqi” or “Shanqi Switch Factory” (fare about 1.5 yuan). Get off at Wuxing Road and walk to the scenic area. Walking Directions (from bus stops) From Qishan Station or Caijiapo Station, take bus 309 to Wuxing Road Intersection. Enter through the Wuxing Village archway, turn right following the signs to Zhuge Spring Pavilion, then walk about 15 minutes along the mountain stone steps to reach the scenic area. High-speed train: My friend took the high-speed train from Beijing, 2.5 hours direct to Chifeng Station. She said you can see the gradual change from city to grassland along the way and can get up and move anytime, more comfortable than flying. Taxi from the train station to downtown costs 10 yuan. 3. Self-drive/charter: Important! Chifeng’s attractions are very spread out, for example, it takes 2.5 hours from downtown to Ulan Butong, really inconvenient without a car! I rented an SUV on Trip.com, 5 days cost over 600 yuan, with free airport pickup and drop-off. You can stop whenever you want along the way, get off to take photos of beautiful grassland scenery, super free~ (Remember to choose insurance, beginners don’t drive at night, some grassland roads have no streetlights) 🏞 5 must-visit attractions! Personally tested with no regrets, plus hidden experiences 1. Yulong Sand Lake (My favorite!) Known as “China’s Little Dubai,” white desert sand with blue-green lake water. Standing on the dunes to take photos, even the shadows look beautiful under the sunlight! · Must-do: Desert off-road adventure is a must! I chose the “deep crossing” option, the driver was amazing, my heart raced when charging up sand slopes. Along the way, we stopped on deserted dunes to shoot “owning the whole desert” photos. 180 yuan/person for 1 hour, totally worth it! · Hidden experience: Go to the “Sand Lake Viewing Platform” one hour before sunset. The sunset dyes the desert golden red, the lake surface reflects like a mirror. I took amazing shots with my phone; at night, stay in the container hotel inside the scenic area, open the window to see the desert, lie in bed and watch the stars, and at 4 a.m. you can get up to watch the desert sunrise with no crowds~ · Pitfall to avoid: Don’t buy sandboards at the entrance! Renting inside the scenic area is 30 yuan each, vendors outside sell for 50 yuan and don’t include shuttle service. 2. Ulan Butong Grassland (The ultimate summer cool spot) In July, the average temperature was 22°C, the grassland breeze made me not want to leave! The homestay owner is a Mongolian mom who arranged a super immersive experience for us~ · Must-do: Learn to make milk tea with mom, first fry rice then add fresh milk. The milk tea has a roasted aroma and tastes amazing with milk tofu; choose the “slow horse riding experience,” a herder leads the horse, you can see herds of cattle and sheep along the way, and reach “General’s Pool” lake with super healing scenery. 80 yuan/hour, safe for beginners; · Night activity: The homestay organizes bonfire parties where everyone dances the Andai dance around the fire. Mom also grills lamb skewers, freshly slaughtered lamb is super tender, just sprinkle salt and it smells amazing, 10 yuan/skewer, paired with grassland beer, happiness maxed out~ · Note: Don’t wear white clothes! There are horseflies on the grassland, they don’t bite but leave black spots that are hard to wash off. 3. Dalinor Lake (Bird watching + full fish feast) Known as “the sea on the grassland,” I happened to catch the spawning migration of Huazi fish, thousands of fish swimming upstream, super shocking! · Must experience: Go early to the fish viewing corridor! Before 8 a.m. it’s less crowded and you can see the fish up close; by the lake is the “Grassland Fishing Village,” where I had an amazing full fish feast. The steamed Huazi fish was tender and melted in my mouth, I ate two bowls of fish soup with rice, 6 people shared a table for just over 300 yuan, great value; · Hidden spot: “Manduo Mountain” on the west shore of the lake. Climb up to overlook the whole lake, like a sapphire embedded in the grassland. The best light is at 3 p.m., photos need no editing. 4. Ashatu Stone Forest (Nature’s sculpture gallery) A 5A-level scenic spot, the granite stone forest is spectacular. I followed a guide on the “essence route,” and saw the main attractions in 2 hours~ · Must-see: “Moon Castle” looks like a fairy tale castle, “Fairy Peak” looks like a fairy draped in gauze from certain angles; there are wooden boardwalks in the scenic area, easy to walk, with rest pavilions along the way to sit and snack if tired; · Photo tip: Wear solid colors! Like red or white, which contrast strongly with the gray stone forest, photos come out great; · Transportation: You must take the sightseeing bus inside the scenic area, 50 yuan/person, don’t walk! The attractions are too far apart and you’ll get too tired. 5. Daoxugou Scenic Area (Little Xishuangbanna beyond the Great Wall) Super cool in the primeval forest, average 20°C. My friend and I walked the “Parent-child Adventure Trail,” though it’s called parent-child, adults will find it very fun too~ · Must-do: Follow the map to find the “hidden waterfall,” crossing streams and climbing wooden ladders along the way. Finding it gives a great sense of achievement, the water under the waterfall is very cool, perfect for summer; the scenic area offers a “wilderness survival class” teaching how to identify edible plants and set up tents, 30 yuan/person, great for kids or outdoor lovers; · Food: Don’t miss the “wild vegetable buns” at the scenic area entrance! Filled with freshly picked bracken, each bite is full of fresh aroma, 5 yuan each, paired with millet porridge, very stomach-friendly. 🍱 4 must-eat foods in Chifeng! Personally tested with no regrets 1. Hand-held meat (a must-eat!) I had hand-held meat in Ulan Butong, boiled in clear water, dipped in chive flower sauce, no gamey taste at all. Mom said to “eat meat with big bites,” I grabbed it with my hands, super satisfying! 68 yuan per jin, 1 jin enough for 2 people. 2. Chifeng Duijia (carb bomb) “Old Sun’s Duijia” in Hongshan District is a 20-year-old shop. I went at 9 a.m. and still queued! The crispy crust crumbles with each bite, the smoked meat inside is super fragrant. Add an egg for only 8 yuan each, eat with tofu pudding, super satisfying breakfast. 3. Milk tofu (Mongolian specialty) Pan-fried milk tofu is super fragrant, crispy outside and tender inside, with a milky aroma. I originally didn’t like dairy but ended up eating 3 pieces! 25 yuan per serving, even better with honey. 4. Rougou chicken (rice companion) I ate it at “Old Chifeng Restaurant” downtown. Chicken and pork stewed together, rich soup, mixed with rice tastes amazing. I ate 2 bowls, 48 yuan per serving, great value. 🚗 5 days 4 nights itinerary (personally tested, reasonable, no rush) Day 1: Shanghai → Chifeng Yulong Airport → rent car → Yulong Sand Lake (desert off-road, watch sunset) → stay in container hotel Day 2: Yulong Sand Lake (watch sunrise, sand sliding) → Ulan Butong Grassland (make milk tea, horse riding) → stay in grassland homestay (bonfire party, eat skewers) Day 3: Ulan Butong Grassland (General’s Pool, Princess Lake) → Dalinor Lake (fish watching, full fish feast) → stay in lakeside homestay Day 4: Dalinor Lake (Manduo Mountain viewing) → Ashatu Stone Forest (essence route) → stay near stone forest scenic area hotel Day 5: Daoxugou Scenic Area (hiking, find waterfall) → return car → Chifeng Station → return trip ❗ 10 personally tested pitfalls to avoid (super important) 1. Lots of mosquitoes and bugs on the grassland, bring mosquito repellent! I used “Liushen mosquito repellent floral water,” super effective. Don’t buy from scenic areas, 10 yuan bottle sold for 30. 2. Big temperature difference between morning and night! Even in July bring a light jacket. I wore short sleeves at night on the grassland, got a cold the next day. 3. Protect yourself from sun in the desert! Bring sunglasses, face mask, SPF50+ sunscreen. I didn’t wear a face mask and my neck got sunburned. 4. Respect local customs: take off shoes before entering Mongolian yurts, don’t step on door thresholds; when encountering an ovoo (stone heap), walk around it clockwise 3 times, don’t throw stones randomly. 5. Don’t buy “grassland specialties” in scenic areas! For example, beef jerky sells for 80 yuan per jin in scenic areas, but only 50 yuan in city supermarkets, and you can try before buying. 6. Rent an SUV! Some grassland roads are dirt roads, sedans easily scrape the bottom. My rented SUV had no problems at all. 7. Don’t drive randomly on the grassland! Undeveloped areas may have swamps. Follow navigation on paved roads for safety. 8. Don’t drink cold drinks with lamb! Easy to get diarrhea. My friend drank cold cola and had stomach pain at night, had to get medicine from the homestay owner. 9. Don’t buy “boat tickets” at Dalinor Lake! 150 yuan per person, low cost performance. Better to climb Manduo Mountain to overlook the lake. 10. Don’t wear sandals in Daoxugou! The trail has stones that hurt your feet. Sneakers are most comfortable. Babes! Chifeng is truly an underrated treasure, with vast grasslands, stunning deserts, and super delicious food. Next time I want to bring my parents again! If you have any questions, ask me in the comments, I’ll tell you everything~

I’m not usually one for long-distance travel, you know; spending weekends at my home in Istanbul, tending to my plants, or reading a book in peace is right up my alley. But recently, I decided to switch things up a bit and visited the famous Zimeng Lake, often called the "Little Erhai" of the steppes. To beat the crowds, we got there bright and early around 8:30 AM, which turned out to be a smart move since the lines for the boats get ridiculously long by noon. At the entrance, we just went ahead and grabbed the 110 RMB package tickets, which covered both the boat ride and access to Sun Island. I love straightforward and practical solutions like this, even when I'm doing data analysis! 🛶 Sun Island is the perfect spot to just unwind, and the lakeside walking trails were incredibly pleasant. The sunset views after 4:30 PM are simply breathtaking. Once we worked up an appetite, we had some fresh lake fish and amazing fish soup at a local spot near the island, and the prices were quite reasonable. It felt amazing to escape the city hustle and just breathe. If my travels ever bring me back this way, I’d definitely pay it another visit. 🌿
