Izumiyama Quarry

Address: 4 Izumiyama, Arita, Nishimatsuura District, Saga 844-0001, Japan Getting there: Around 15 minutes walk from JR Kami-Arita Station Highlights: Although this place is called "Quarry", this deposit was mined by underground workings. It was due to the discovery of kaolin stone at this site which is the raw material used to make porcelain clay. This has made Arita developed into a prosperous center of porcelain production. In the meantime, there is no longer any active mining at the quarry, and you can view the exposed rocks from a nearby observation area.
