Doi Suthep is located about 6 kilometers south of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. It is one of the famous tourist attractions and Buddhist holy sites in Thailand. "Doi Suthep" means "the mountain of the hermit friend" in Thai, and it is also known as "the mountain where the hermit meets" in Chinese. The golden tower in the temple is called the Stupa, which is covered with gold foil and stands tall in the clouds. It shines brilliantly in the sunlight and is magnificent. The Stupa enshrines the relics of Shakyamuni, and there are paintings and statues of Buddhist monks from various Thai dynasties around the tower. According to legend, the location of the Stupa where the Buddha's bones were stored was chosen by the elephant carrying the bones. The elephant stopped here, shouted three times, circled around three times, and knelt down on all fours. The monk who transported the Buddha's bones, Phra Chao Suea, believed that this was the will of the Buddha, and immediately started construction on the spot, building this Stupa.
