In addition to being an important economic area in the region as another important transportation hub for Thai goods, the Golden Triangle also has beautiful scenery, especially in the morning when the sun rises and the mist lingers nearby. The term "Golden Triangle" comes from two sources. The first is from the opium trade in the past, which used gold to trade, and opium was very valuable, like black gold. The second origin comes from border trade, where gold was used as a medium of exchange. In the past, the Golden Triangle was a major opium-growing area in the world. However, when Thailand had the Doi Tung Development Project of Her Majesty the Queen Mother, and she had the idea to let people learn about the dangers of opium and drugs, the hill tribe people had a better life, so they eventually stopped growing opium. The Golden Triangle is located in Chiang Saen District, 70 kilometers from Chiang Rai city. It takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes by car.
